Abstract

Malaysia is the second world largest palm oil producer. In 2016, Malaysia has produced 29.3% of world palm oil and 92.6% of the total production has been exported globally. Palm oil products are products that can be refined from the palm oil such as oleochemical and biodiesel. The main destination for Malaysian palm-based oleochemical products export is to the EU. As the Netherlands is the major palm-based oleochemical importer, this study attempts to examine the factors that influenced import demand of Malaysian palm-based oleochemical products in the Netherlands using the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) Model. This study used annual data from 1984 to 2016. The results of the bound test indicated that there is a long-run relationship between the variables. The empirical results showed that domestic income, measured by the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) showed positive significant relationship as the GDP increases the demand for palm-based oleochemical from Malaysia also increases, while palm oil prices and total vegetable oils consumption have negative significant relationships with oleochemical demand. The evidence from this study indicated that demand from the Netherlands is significantly strong. Thus, the Malaysian government may need to further improve and reformulate the best strategy and policy to meet up with the increasing demand for palm-based oleochemical in the EU particularly in the Netherlands.

Abstract

This research paper covers the distribution of economic rent among different participants of a chains, as exemplified by global value chains in the resource management industries. Five hypotheses on the value-added distribution in a chain were verified: (1) The larger the company, the more market power and advantages in value-added distribution it has; (2) The integrator of a chain (focal company) has more advantages in value-added distribution than other participants of a chain; (3) Suppliers of intellectual solutions have more advantages in value-added distribution than producers of goods; (4) The closer the company to the end consumer, the more advantages in value-added distribution it has; (5) Companies controlling market of final goods (brand or entry to the local market) have more advantages in value-added distribution than their suppliers. None of the mentioned above hypotheses are verified in accordance with empirical data in the selected sectors of economies. At the same time, it has been verified that investments in Research and Development, per se, do not guarantee any privileges in the international division of labor; suppliers of key parts are those who have clear advantages in value chains; localization of production of end goods is not always the right thing to do.

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to conceptualize the dimensions of supply chain management practices and their impact on firm performances. In this empirical paper, business competitiveness of the service provider’s logistics companies comprises facets relating to quality and delivery of their products to the customers. Besides, as far as faster product delivery to the customers is concerned, this can be ascribed to the extensive sales and distribution networks established by the top twenty service provider’s logistics companies in Indonesia. The methodology of this study depends on the Meta-analysis, whereby the results reveal a positive effect of supply chain management practices, as viewed by the respondents of the service provider’s logistics companies on business performance. Such positive effects of supply chain management practices on both business competitiveness and customer satisfaction are validated by prior studies as well, who observe that when activities are performed in sync with both suppliers and customers, it would significantly leverage firm business competencies as well as customer satisfaction. This also finds the echo in the study arguing that a long-term collaborative relationship with suppliers facilitate in garnering positive results in an array of activities as reflected in superior product quality, diminished length of lead time, prompt customer service.

Abstract

Abstract- Supply chain risk management (SCRM) is a key component of not only supply success but firm success as well. All Companies aim to achieve the highest level in quantity and quality of their products in the shortest time while preserving the safety of their workers and providing all appropriate conditions for them. Whereas many institutions spend a lot of money to implement international safety and quality standards in order to reach this goal, they continue to suffer from some failures on the level of worker safety and unstable product quality. The presence of the human factor necessarily means the possibility of errors, and these errors naturally have accumulations that may reach even the furthest point in the organization and this leads to an increased possibility of accidents and fluctuations in product quality and waste of time. In view of the common goals and similarities between the Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) organization, supply chain risk management, and the effective pivotal role of the FMEA organization in extracting points of failure and errors at the FMEA organization and field levels. Linking them in a way that allows managers to explore errors in the least time possible to remedy its consequences. The relationship between the FMEA organization and product quality management aims to improve performance and improve product quality in the shortest possible time.

Abstract

The present research attempts to discover this supply chain management as an important issue of strategic management research. This study particularly examines two important IT capabilities which are expected to have influence on firm performance, these capabilities are 1) IT assimilation, the ability to synchronize and diffuse the applications of information technology under business structure, and 2) flexible IT infrastructure, a well-developed and carefully planned technological foundation which provides basis for present as well as future applications to be developed. Based on the dynamic capability’s perspective and the view of a hierarchy of capabilities, the prime objective of the currents study is investigating the direct relationship between absorptive capacity, supply chain agility, IT capability and organizational performance in the Indonesian manufacturing firms. In addition to that the mediating effect of absorptive capacity and supply chain agility is also examined. Employing the survey-based methodology, the SEM-PLS technique is used to test the hypothesized relationships. So, current study has used SEM-PLS as statistical tool to answer the research questions raised in this study and research objectives envisaged in the current study. The findings of the study have provided support to the theoretical foundation and proposed hypothesis of the current study. Current study will be helpful for policymakers and practitioners in understanding the issues related to supply chain agility, IT capability, absorptive capacity and the firm performance. In author knowledge this is among very few pioneering studies on this issue.

Abstract

Abstract- The concept of supply chain strategy in Islamic finance is related to Socially Responsible Investment (SRI) by many researchers in different time frames based on the similarities between Islamic finance and the concept of SRI. SRI has been described by many authors as an investment philosophy that includes non-financial, ethical (e.g., social and environmental) objectives. This paper will shed the light on the interconnection between concepts the Socially Responsible Investment (SRI) and the Islamic Finance Model (IFM). To explain and explore the concept of SRI within Islamic Finance qualitative research technique will be used.  The findings show that central values in IFM and SRI could be matched to optimize prospects for Islamic finance to tap the large pool of global SRI funds. Moving forward, greater interplay between these two markets should be explored. Key stakeholders on both ends, including financial experts, research centers, rating agencies, non-governmental organizations and even regulators should pursue ways to consolidate the connectivity of these market. The Islamic finance focuses mainly on risk sharing, individuals’ rights and responsibilities, property rights and the purity of contracts. Receipt and payment of interest in contracts differentiate Islamic Finance from conventional finance. The other factors such as banned on contracts involving investments in alcohol, tobacco, drugs, pornography, prostitution, gambling, armaments, animal experimentation, genetic engineering, financial exploitation makes it similar to social responsible investment SRI.

Abstract

Supply chain management that interrelates and integrates both consumers and suppliers into a process to make product value or service to consumers is very important and strategic. The purpose of this work is to develop models and methods to assess the supply chain imbalance and labor market demand based on intellectual control for the IT segment. The labor market operates in conditions of uncertainty and is characterized by specific management tasks, for which there are no ready-made software products and classical mathematical models. In this paper, the authors used fuzzy set theory, which allows the development of formal methods of evaluation and decision support to automate the process of analysis of the supply chain and demand in the labor market. The labor market in the model is described as an intelligent space, in which the main actors representing demand and supply interact. Based on this concept, a simulation of the supply chain interaction and micro-level demand is performed and an algorithm based on fuzzy situational analysis and fuzzy pattern recognition is developed. Suggested in the article methodological approach to the creation of the intelligent management system for the labor market of IT specialists, allows developing management decisions aimed at reducing the (qualitative) discrepancy of supply chain skills and demand. Keywords- Labor market, IT specialists, unbalance supply chain, Fuzzy sets, Intelligent management, Pattern recognition.
