Abstract

Video materials were used this study to examine the effectiveness of teaching English and to evaluate university students’ attitudes towards the use of video materials in teaching listening skills. The population for this study was 32 first-year midwifery students in the second semester of the academic year 2016/2017 at Adiwangsa University, Jambi. The sample were selected by total sampling technique. The study was conducted in 12 meeting including pretest and posttest. The one-group pretest-posttest design was implemented in this study. The instruments used in this study were lesson plans, English comprehension tests (pretest and posttest) and a questionnaire of the students’ attitude. Regarding the data analysis, mean score and pretest-posttest scores for the dependent sample were employed. The result indicated that the midwifery students’ English listening comprehension ability increased significantly after learning with videos and midwifery students had positive attitudes towards using videos in teaching listening skills.

Abstract

The study reports on the analysis of the using multimodal text, especially photographs, in teaching writing recount text in genre-based approach classroom. The study employed a qualitative research design, embracing the characteristics of a case study. The data were obtained from several sources including classroom observations, and students’ texts. The analysis reveals that despite the limitation, the teaching program is successful. The students are able to develop the activities in Background Knowledge of Study (BKOF), Modelling of Text (MOT), Joint Construction of the Text (JCOT), and Independent Construction of the Text (ICOT). The students show positive response to improve their writing ability. The data from observation reveals that the students can follow the activities in the teaching program. The students are able to handle the instruction given by the teacher and discuss them with their classmates. The teacher as the participant observer can bravely describe that the students enjoy the activities and have good enthusiasms to involve in each activity. The analyses show that the students have many progressions toward the implementation of the teaching program. The progressions are observed before the implementation, during, and final writing in the teaching program. Based on the results, the students can develop their ability in terms of the writing concepts. The data support the assumption that multimodal texts help the students to understand and construct the text in a good way.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the skills of writing news on the student of Language and Literature Education Indonesia  using strategy cooperatif type group investigation.This type of research is classroom action research with qualitative descriptive method. This research model refers to a model Kemmis and Mc Taggart. Subjects were students of Indonesian education enrolled in the academic year 2017/2018. Data collected by the test and non-test techniques. The instrument used, namely in the form of news writing test, interview and observation sheet. The results showed that an increase in news writing skills using strategy cooperatif type group investigation.This is evidenced from the average value of students in each cycle. The average value of 62.12 students in prasiklus then increased in the first cycle to 66.24 and the second cycle the average value of students increased to 87.00.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the extent to which the students' perceptions of the efficiency of learning and creativity of learning to give effect to the student learning precedence STIE Persada Bunda. This research was conducted at the School of Economics Persada Bunda Pekanbaru. Techniques and data analysis is a descriptive analysis technique. Population amounted to 328 students STIE Persada Bunda with sample of 77 samples. To examine the instruments of this study using questionnaires to obtain analysis of validity, reliability, descriptive analysis, and use statistical analysis of multiple regression analysis as well as testing the hypothesis of T test and F test. The results of this study showed that the hypothesis proposed in this study had a significant effect between perceptions students about the efficiency of learning and learning creativity toward the achievement index. The value of T arithmetic for student perception variable about learning efficiency (X1) is 3,066 significant at level 0,059. Thus it can be seen that T arithmetic <t table is -3.066> 1.992 (sig 0.059 <0.05). For learning creativity variable (X2) The value of t table in α  = 0.05 is 1.992. t value is 5,044. so it can be seen that t count> t table, that is 5,044> 1,992. (sig 0.015 <0.05).

Abstract

Allusion is a form of language that has a negative relationship and it becomes something that is very disliked by many people. Even that is the background of this research, that people only think that what is in a literary work always reveals the positive values contained in ad work, but often forgets something  that smeels negative. This study  reveals the form onf syndicated language used by characters in the novel 24 Jam Bersama Gaspar Sebuah Cerita Detektif by Sabda Armandio. The study use Keraf theory (2010) as form, Manaf and Aminuddin as forming meaning. The method  suggested by Sudaryanto (1993). The result of this study  is some indicate that the most language style found in the novel 24 Jam Bersama Gaspar Sebuah Cerita Detektif by Sabda Armandio is sarcasm and irony. The  form of the language of satire contains bitterness, blemish, hurt and is less pleasent to hear.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship of motivation (X) on students’ English learning achievement (Y) of Senior High School number 12 Padang. The population of this research was students of Senior High School number 12 Padang with total population was 894 students. Sample was selected by stratified random sampling technique with total sample was 100 students. The data were collected by using questionnaire. The data were analyzed by using quantitative descriptive technique with SPSS computer program version 20. Based on result of data analysis it can be found that there is a positive correlation between X  and Y  high category (0,783) and significance value less than 0,05 (0,000 <0,05). It can be said that the motivated students make learning achievement better. Thus, internal and external students’ motivation should be considered by the educationist practice.
