Abstract

Plastic packaging has dominated the waste, and the number is increasing every year. Candy plastic packaging waste is most often considered trivial because of its small size, so it is usually disposed of carelessly. Due to its non-biodegradable, it causes environmental pollution. Edible film packaging is an alternative to reduce the impact of candy packaging waste pollution. The purpose of this study was to obtain the optimum formula of the edible film between corn starch, carrageenan, and rice bran as a hard candy packaging with the Response Surface Methodology (RSM) Central Surface Composite Design using the Design Expert 10.0.7. The prediction data obtained is then verified and tested by t-test at a 5% reliance interval. The optimum formulation of RSM results is 3.4% of corn starch, 1.1% of carrageenan and 0.38% of rice bran with predicted response of water content of 14.51%, WVTR 61,06 g/m2/hour, viscosity of 258.8 cP, tensile strength of 107.9 kgf/cm2, elongation of 19.41%, and modulus of response young 586.28 kgf/cm2. The verification of the optimum formula had a moisture content of 14.37%, WVTR 63.34 g/m2/hour, viscosity of 244.9 cP, tensile strength of 96.9 kgf/cm2, elongation of 20.96%, and young modulus of 462.49 kgf/cm2. Abstract

This paper presents an exhaust temperature analysis of a UAV Propeller Material to maintain the performance of the propulsion system during operation, especially in a long-range condition. A pusher Propeller experiences direct contact with heat from the exhaust gas. In this study, a Beechwood material with a protective layer of corrosion prevention is used as a propeller blade that works at a range of high temperatures. An experimental methodology was carried out to analyse the strength and propeller deformation. The results of this experimental study show that conservatively the propeller will be heated to 32.9°C. Since this is below the temperature limit, the exhaust gas to pusher propeller on UAV does not affect the propeller performance.Key Words: Exhaust; Temperature; UAV; Propeller; Wood

Abstract

Railway level crossing safety is one of the most critical issues for railways. Collisions between trains and motorized vehicles contribute most to LX accidents. Population growth and the development of economic in Indonesia affect the increase in vehicle volume, especially in the city of Surabaya. Furthermore, the increasing of vehicles volume, causing congestion at some points in Surabaya including Gayung Kebonsari railway level crossing. One of the congestion factors at the railway level crossings is the duration of closing time as the train passes through the crossing. The uncertain duration of gate closing time cause road users to be undisciplined by break through the crossing gates while the train pass through the crossings. Considering of those problems, respondents’ opinion is being evaluated to see the society behavior to early warning on reducing the number of traffic violation. A comprehensive discussion of the existing problems, lessons learned and the possible future implications that can be applied in Indonesia are presented. Key Words: Railway Level Crossing, Accident, Society Behavior, Regression, Binary logit

Abstract

Based on data from Indonesia Directorate General of Railways in 2017, it is mentioned that the problems at the level crossing of railroad tracks are mostly caused by human error factors themselves. The current train headway and the crossing system that is still operated manually can increase the potential for accidents. Therefore, the development of alternative camera-based detectors to support the railroad crossing automation system is needed at this time. The development of this camera-based train detector uses the basic program You Only Look Once (YOLO), where YOLOv3 has proven to be accurate enough to detect moving objects. The development results show promising results for several types of alternative trains. Key Words : Detectors; Train; YOLOv3

Abstract

This research addresses the problem of vandalism incident related to the smart level crossing technology. Smart level crossing system is essential as a safety system inside the level area, because of that any failure related to the System will endanger the railway and road user. Another subsystem that protects smart level crossing property is critical. This research will show the plan for applying anti-vandalism technology and analysis another possibility of technology related to the System. Abstract

Root cause analysis is a method that observes all of the possible causes that make the system or components fail. This research is implemented such a method to investigate the failed front wall tube on the boiler. The purpose of this research is to find out the main cause of failure on the front wall tube to avoid a similar problem in the future.  Considering all aspects that have the potential to be the main cause of failure, therefore, many tests and examinations are done, including visual tests, fractography, metallography, chemical analysis, hardness test, SEM, and EDS analysis.  Examination result on the fracture surface shows two bulges on a tube and some longitudinal cracks spread on bulges outside the surface area. At the same time, the thick scale is also found on the inside surface of these bulges. Moreover, microstructure and hardness changes are also found in this area.  From the analysis of all test result that obtained it is concluded that the main cause of failure is the presence of scales which reduce heat transfer so that local overheating occurred.  Consequently, its tensile strength in this area is decreased, and finally, the tube could not support operational pressure and deformed to make a bulge.      Keywords: Root cause; Failure; Front wall; Tube; Boiler

Abstract

To fulfill the demand for a number of railroad products, the national railroad industry, in this case PT. INKA as a train integrator industry in Indonesia still has to import components. TKDN electric train is still low. For this reason, it is time to prepare the industrial development of the national railway propulsion system components and even have a very urgent nature. Railway propulsion systems can be classified into three groups, namely: Electric propulsion systems, Diesel Electric propulsion systems and Diesel Hydraulic propulsion systems. Import dependence, of course, cannot be allowed to continue because it will weaken the competitiveness of the national railroad industry. From the results of the analysis using the "Porter Diamond Condition" method various internal and external factors were identified through the SWOT method to formulate alternative policy formulations for the development of the railroad electric propulsion system industry in Indonesia. Qualitative SWOT data are developed quantitatively through the calculation of SWOT Analysis so that the exact position of the organization is known. From the results of the analysis, and calculations using the SWOT Method, the position of the railway propulation system industry is in the Quadrant IV position, so it is best to use a Defensive Strategy. In this position the Company faces a very unfavorable situation, the company faces various threats and internal weaknesses. For this reason, it is necessary to prioritize strengthening strategies in the Matrix (W-T). Key Words: Electric propulsion; Industrial development; Strategy

Abstract

The potential of artificial intelligence (AI) application for prediction of internal combustion engine performance is assessed in this paper. A literature survey on this subject is first reviewed, in which previous researches utilized the advance of artificial neural networks (ANN) as one type of AI. Previous works commonly obtained the data from experimental engine tests. Under the same engines, they varied the fuel compositions or the engine operating conditions. Whereas in this study, an ANN model is developed to calculate the inputs from an engine simulation software package database and to predict the engine performance based on the simulation software outputs as the ANN target outputs. Results from the ANN model in the “learning” step indicates good agreement with the software simulation outputs. Improvement and development of the program are required, including optimation of the ANN model architecture, such as the choice of activation function, the number of neurons in the hidden layer, and the number of iterations, as well as the number and option of input engine parameters. The ANN model seems promising to predict engine performance, with root mean square errors in the range of 0.4-1.8%. Keywords: Artificial Intelligence; Neural Networks; Engine Performance.
