Abstract

The five-way intersection without traffic signals at the junction of Jalan Akordion Selatan, Jalan Saxophone, Jalan Akordion, Jalan Simpang Akordion, and Jalan Candi Panggung Barat experiences congestion due to the large number of vehicles. To estimate traffic flow conditions over the next five years, evaluate intersection performance, and determine whether traffic lights are needed, this study was conducted. The 2023 Indonesian Road Capacity Guidelines (PKJI) were used as the basis for analysis after a primary survey was conducted by recording vehicle volume for seven days between 06:00 and 22:00. At the southern approach, the degree of saturation (DS) was 0.202 (LOS B), west 0.489 (LOS C), north 0.201 (LOS B), and east 0.599 (LOS C), according to the 2025 observation findings. Several approaches are at LOS D (congested) and approaching the saturation limit (DS > 0.85), according to five-year predictions, which show an increase in DS to 0.258 (south), 0.625 (west), 0.256 (north), and 0.764 (east), with a total flow of 6,861 pcu/hour. An ideal signal cycle of 85 seconds is recommended by calculations using the Webster technique to regulate traffic flow. These findings indicate that the installation of traffic signals is crucial to improve intersection functionality, reduce delays, and facilitate better traffic flow.

Abstract

Parking is an important element in urban transportation because it affects transportation mode choices and has both short-term and long-term impacts on society and the transportation system. Jalan Merdeka Selatan in Malang City features parking that can be categorized into two types: on-street parking and off-street parking. This study aims to identify the characteristics of on-street parking along Jalan Merdeka Selatan, Malang City. Indicators for measuring the characteristics of on-street parking include traffic volume, road geometry, capacity, speed, degree of saturation, and level of service. The research design uses a quantitative approach with descriptive research type. The results show a decrease in average vehicle speed and an increase in congestion due to on-street parking, which reduces road capacity. On-street parking on Jalan Merdeka Selatan causes a decrease in average vehicle speed by up to 20%, traffic volume increases during peak hours, significantly raising congestion levels, and on-street parking disrupts traffic flow and safety.

Abstract

A drainage channel for a water structure that can properly drain water to the downstream section of a channel. A channel capable of accommodating Qrencana will be able to free the city from flooding. The issue of flooding is a concern for various parties, especially the local community, and the government also has an important role to play. The research location is on Jalan Raya Candi II, Klojen District, Malang City, East Java. The design flow calculation method uses the rational method with a 5-year and 10-year return period. The flood discharge for a 5-year return period is 3585 m3/second and for a 10-year return period is 3934 m3/second. At the research location, there are a total of 6 channel sections and after evaluation, 1 channel is still sufficient to accommodate the design flood discharge for a 5-year and 10-year return period. However, there are 5 channels that are insufficient to accommodate the design flood discharge for a 5-year and 10-year return period. For channels that are insufficient, they need to be redesigned with Q5years added to the protection height (W) and controlled with Q10years to obtain the appropriate capacity in an effort to prevent flooding at the research location. The redesign of channel 1 is b = 2.4 m and channel height = 2.1 m in the channel design. The channel dimensions are the same from channel 1 to channel 6, and a storage well is recommended to overcome surface water runoff.

Abstract

The development of Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology has greatly contributed to improving the efficiency of the construction planning and implementation process. This study discusses the application of BIM in the construction project of the Putra Pondok Pesantrean Amanatul Ummah dormitory building in Mojokerto, East Java, using Tekla Structures. The main objectives of this study are to produce a three-dimensional (3D) structural model, create a four-dimensional (4D) implementation schedule, and compile a five-dimensional (5D) cost estimate. This research uses a case study method by processing project shop drawing data, which is then modeled using Tekla Structures. The structural modeling process begins with the foundation, sloof, columns, beams, and floor slabs. The resulting 3D model is then combined with the construction schedule to form a 4D simulation and calculate the cost estimate through 5D modeling. The results of the study show that the modeling of the Foundation, Sloof, Columns, Beams & Floor Slabs (3D) structures has been carried out. From the 4D simulation, the project implementation schedule starts on January 2, 2025, and ends on November 11, 2025. The total calculation of the Cost Estimate (RAB) for the structural work is IDR 3,043,967,282 (three billion forty-three million nine hundred sixty-seven thousand two hundred eighty-two rupiah).

Abstract

Mortar mixture is one of the important binding elements in civil works, with a minimum standard compressive strength of 50 kg/cm² to achieve a concrete age of 28 days. Mortar with a minimum compressive strength standard of 50 kg/cm², or commonly referred to as Mortar K-50, is used to support the strength of the structure until the concrete age of 28 days. Mortar mixtures are widely used in various types of work with different levels of strength according to their needs. The quality of the mortar is greatly influenced by the composition of the constituent materials, such as the ratio of cement and sand, as well as the soaking time that plays a role in the cement hydration process. This hydration process is important because it determines the homogeneity of the mixture and the final strength of the resulting mortar. This study aims to determine the compressive strength value of mortar with variations in the composition of the cement and sand mixture, namely a ratio of 1:3, 1:4, and 1:5, as well as the effect of curing time at the age of 7, 14, and 28 days. Testing was carried out using a cube-shaped mortar test specimen measuring 5 x 5 x 5 cm. The sand used comes from the Ex AlkaniRiver, with grain sizes ranging from 0.075 mm to 4.80 mm and a fineness modulus of 2.5 to 3.2. The cement used was Kupang Type I Cement, a standard Portland cement that meets SNI standards. The test specimens were cured under laboratory conditions to ensure optimal hydration. The results of the study showed that the compressive strength of mortar with a mixture of 1:3 produced a higher strength of 76.65 MPa above the minimum mortar compressive strength of 50 MPa. Mixtures with a ratio of 1:4 and 1:5 showed compressive strengths of 54.66 MPa and 44.7 MPa.

Abstract

Traffic flow at the intersection with traffic lights on Jalan Jend. Ahmad Yani Utara-Jalan Raden Intan, Blimbing, Malang, is often disrupted due to significant congestion and traffic delays. This study aims to evaluate the performance of the intersection and examine the traffic light operation model using PTV Vissim microscopic simulation software. The data collected included primary and secondary data. Primary data included vehicle volume, physical characteristics of the intersection, queue length, vehicle speed, and traffic light cycle. Secondary data was obtained from digital maps and documents related to road capacity. The research method used was quantitative descriptive with a simulation approach. The analysis was conducted based on a traffic flow of 3,877 pcu/hour, a saturation level of 3.57, an average queue length of 335.76 meters, a traffic delay of 54.95 seconds per vehicle, and an average vehicle speed of less than 36.7 km/hour. Furthermore, driver behavior parameter calibration was performed to ensure the accuracy of the model. With a GEH value of less than five, the PTV Vissim model proved to be valid and capable of accurately describing real traffic conditions. The results of this study indicate that simulation models can be used to design and evaluate traffic light control strategies, thereby improving vehicle flow and reducing queues and delays at the intersection. Abstract

Biodiesel is an alternative fuel that can replace conventional diesel and is produced from vegetable oils, one of which is Crude Palm Oil (CPO). The use of biodiesel offers several advantages, including being environmentally friendly, renewable, and producing lower exhaust gas emissions compared to conventional fossil fuels. Therefore, biodiesel has significant potential to reduce dependence on fossil energy and to enhance national energy security. The production process of biodiesel from CPO involves two main reactions, namely esterification and transesterification. The esterification reaction aims to reduce the free fatty acid (FFA) content in the feedstock to prevent interference with the main reaction. Subsequently, the transesterification reaction functions to convert triglycerides into methyl esters as the main biodiesel product, with glycerol as a by-product. This reaction proceeds in the presence of a base catalyst and methanol as the alcohol reactant. The preliminary design of this biodiesel plant is planned with a production capacity of 6,000 tons per year, with the transesterification reactor serving as the main equipment. The reactor is designed to operate at a temperature of 60°C and atmospheric pressure of 1 atm, with a feed capacity of 9,846.417 kg/h. Based on the economic analysis, the plant is considered feasible to be constructed, with a before-tax Return on Investment (ROI) of 86%, an after-tax ROI of 77%, a Pay Out Time (POT) of 1.28 years, a Break Even Point (BEP) of 40.53%, and an Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 18.60%. Therefore, the establishment of a biodiesel plant using CPO as feedstock in Melawi Regency in 2026 is technically and economically feasible and can contribute to the development of renewable energy in Indonesia

Abstract

Sargassum sp. is a brown seaweed species abundantly found along the coastlines of Indonesia. This study aimed to evaluate antioxidant activity and characterize bioactive compounds from ethanolic extracts of Sargassum sp. using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). The seaweed samples were collected from Kondang Merak Beach, Malang, Indonesia, and extracted by the maceration method using ethanol as the solvent. Variations in the material-to-solvent ratio (1:10 w/v, 1:20 w/v, and 1:30 w/v) and extraction time (20, 40, and 60 minutes) were applied to determine optimal extraction conditions. Antioxidant activity was assessed using the DPPH method, while total phenolic and total flavonoid contents were measured through colorimetric assays using a spectrophotometer. The results showed that the highest antioxidant activity was achieved at an extraction time of 40 minutes with a solvent ratio of 1:10 (w/v), producing an IC₅₀ value of 5.52 mg/mL, which indicates strong free radical scavenging activity. The highest flavonoid content was obtained at a solvent ratio of 1:30 (w/v), reaching 6.54 mg QE/g. Meanwhile, the highest phenolic content was observed at an extraction time of 60 minutes with the same solvent ratio, amounting to 2.58 mg GAE/g. FTIR analysis revealed major functional groups such as O–H, C=O, and C–O, confirming the presence of phenolic and flavonoid compounds that contribute to antioxidant activity. Overall, these findings demonstrate that ethanolic extracts of Sargassum sp. have strong potential as a natural antioxidant source for functional food applications, supported by chemical characterization through FTIR analysis.

Abstract

Indonesia as a maritime country has abundant marine biological resources, including brown algae Sargassum sp. This study aims to explore the antioxidant capacity and characteristics of bioactive compounds from methanol extract of brown algae Sargassum sp. taken from Kondang Merak Beach, Malang Regency. The maceration method was chosen for the extraction process using various times (20, 40, and 60 minutes) and the ratio of seaweed powder to solvent (1:10, 1:20, and 1:30 g/ml). Antioxidant activity was analyzed using the DPPH method, while total phenolic and flavonoid contents were determined using the Folin–Ciocalteu method and spectrophotometry. Identification of bioactive compounds of Sargassum sp. was tested using Liquid Chromatography–High Resolution Mass Spectrometry (LC-HRMS), which allows more accurate and comprehensive detection of compounds. The results revealed that treatment with a time of 60 minutes and a solvent ratio of 1:30 produced the best antioxidant capacity with an IC₅₀ value of 4.71 mg/ml, a total phenolic content of 1.31 mg GAE/g, and a total flavonoid content of 8.80 mg QE/g. LC-HRMS analysis revealed various bioactive compounds including unsaturated fatty acids, flavonoids, terpenoids, and carotenoids, such as α-eleostearic acid, eicosapentaenoic acid, tangeritin, nobiletin, curcumin, and astaxanthin. The presence of these compounds plays an important role in explaining the high antioxidant capacity of Sargassum sp. extract. Therefore, brown algae Sargassum sp. has potential as a natural source of antioxidant compounds for functional food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic applications.
