Abstract

The Banyuwangi Regional Government hosted a tourism vlog competition from 2017 to 2021. Because no analysis of the effectiveness of the competition has been conducted, additional research is required. The selection of cocoa tourist research objects in Sempu District is expected to become one of the community-based advertising references. This qualitative study collects data through interviews, focused group discussions, and documentation. The qualitative data analysis was carried out by combining data on the implementation of the Vlog Competition from the Tourism, Creative Economy and Culture Office of Banyuwangi Regency with data from FGD results with a sample of Banyuwangi film creators and data on cocoa tourism visits in Sempu District. The analysis results indicate that the Tourism Vlog Competition is ineffective in increasing the number of cocoa tourism visits in Sempu District.

This research analyzes the 2010 film 3 Hati Dua Dunia Satu Cinta (3 Hearts Two Worlds One Love) amidst the social phenomenon indicating increased religious intolerance. Additionally, this study seeks to analyze social urban society's phenomenon and disparity through the film's narrative and characters. This research also seeks to understand the film's impact on urban society's heterogeneity from the spatial politics perspective. The study employed the qualitative method with narrative and discourse analysis approaches using Laclau-Mouffe's antagonistic framework. Data was collected by watching and directly analyzing the film and through relevant literature studies. The research results indicate that the film 3 Hati Dua Dunia Satu Cinta successfully utilized the social phenomenon as a marketing strategy, maintained disparity through its narrative and characters, resulted in subject dislocation towards a certain hegemonic identity, and influenced the heterogeneity of urban society from the perspective of spatial politics.

Abstract

Black Swan is a psychological horror movie by Darren Aronofsky. This movie tells of a ballerina named Nina Sayers, who desires to be a perfect ballerina. On her way to achieving her desire, Nina experiences psychological problems where she often hallucinates and even hurts herself. It results from Nina’s anxiety that causes her to be afraid that her desire will not be fulfilled. This article aims to examine Nina’s psychological state during the process of achieving her dreams. To reveal the psychological issues experienced by Nina, a characteristic analysis was carried out using Sigmund Freud’s theory of psychoanalysis, the theory of human defense mechanisms, and the cinematographic aspects of this film. The results showed that uncontrolled desires could cause psychological disorders that influence a person’s characteristics.

Abstract

Stereotypes against Asians emerge and develop as a form of propaganda for Americans. Cho Chang, a character from the Harry Potter film series, exemplifies negative stereotypes of Asian women. Accordingly, this study aims to identify which stereotypes of Asian women correspond to the existing reality. Using Barthes’ semiotic theory, this study employed qualitative analysis. The findings indicate stereotypes that fit the audience’s interpretation, i.e., Asian women are exotic and charming, Asians are academically intelligent, and Asian women easily change their partners. Meanwhile, stereotypes that do not fit with the audience’s interpretations include: Asians are clumsy, weird, and disliked by Americans, and the “Dragon Lady” image of Asian women who is cunning, sadistic, and untrustworthy.
