Abstract

Governance and internationalization are critical determinants in the transformation of Islamic higher education institutions into globally competitive entities. This study explores the governance frameworks and internationalization strategies of Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia (UIII) and Universitas Islam Negeri Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung (UIN SGD Bandung), focusing on their alignment with Salmi's (2009) world-class university transformation model, which emphasizes talent concentration, abundant resources, and favorable governance. Through qualitative analysis of secondary data, including institutional annual reports (2021–2023) and semi-structured interviews with key stakeholders, this research identifies disparities in autonomy, resource mobilization, and internationalization initiatives stemming from differences in governance status—PTN-BH for UIII and PTN-BLU for UIN SGD Bandung. Findings reveal that UIII leverages its autonomy to enhance resource flexibility, establish global partnerships, and attract a diverse international student body, positioning itself as a global hub for Islamic scholarship. Conversely, UIN SGD Bandung focuses on regional engagement through outward mobility and dual-degree programs but faces challenges not only in financial independence but also in its limited prioritization in national-level internationalization policies. These factors constrain its ability to implement more impactful global initiatives and enhance postgraduate program quality. The study concludes that while UIII exemplifies third-generation cross-border education, UIN SGD Bandung remains within the first-generation model. Furthermore, criticism of governance and internationalization becomes an essential aspect of this research, considering the disparities between the two that mutually impact these aspects.

Abstract

This study evaluates  PT. Pertamina Patra Niaga DPPU Ngurah Rai’s  ecotourism Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program using  Social Return on Investment (SROI). The study evaluates program outcomes over 2020–2023 and  projects potential impacts for 2024, involving 14 stakeholders through field observation, interviews, and document review. The program generated total benefit  of IDR 3,291,026,216 with an SROI ratio of 3.35, meaning that every IDR 1 invested yields IDR 3.35 in combined economic, social, and environmental benefits. Farmers were the main beneficiaries while sustainability compass analysis shows  the economic impacts dominate due to the greater measurability of financial outcomes compared to social and environmental effects. The findings underscore the value of SROI as an integrative evaluation approach in the Indonesian CSR context and indicates that strengthening community capacity, institutional support, and market access is crucial for ensuring the long-term sustainability of program impacts.

Abstract

This study aims to (1) describe the marketing communication practices of Gayo Coffee MSME actors and (2) analyze the influence of internal factors, external factors, and communication behavior on the marketing communication capacity of Gayo Coffee MSME actors. This research is a quantitative study with a non-experimental research design. A total of 88 respondents who are Gayo Coffee MSME actors in Central Aceh Regency with small business scale (68.2%) and micro business scale (31.8%) were used as samples. The data analysis technique used was descriptive analysis and SEM-PLS analysis using SmartPLS 3.0 software. The results showed that marketing communication practices applied to Gayo Coffee MSMEs include advertising, sales promotion, direct marketing, and interactive marketing activities.  Internal factors of Gayo Coffee MSME actors consisting of age, formal education level, participation in training, and motivation have a significant effect on marketing communication capacity, the motivation indicator is the most influential internal factor. External factors of Gayo Coffee MSME actors consisting of capital, length of business, and number of workers affect the marketing communication capacity of the business length indicator is the most influential external factor. The communication behavior of Gayo Coffee MSME actors, which includes cosmopolitanism, activeness in seeking information, accessibility and media utilization, also affects marketing communication capacity. Activeness in seeking information is the most influential indicator of communication behavior, indicating that MSME actors who are open to new information and actively use digital communication media tend to be more successful in implementing effective marketing communications.

Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of the Privileges fund (Danais) in supporting sustainable tourism village development through a systems-based approach, focusing on Nglanggeran Tourism Village, Yogyakarta. The Cross-Impact Matrix Multiplication Applied to Classification (MICMAC) method is used to analyze influence–dependence relationships among 32 variables across four dimensions: social, economic, institutional, and environmental. The findings show that socio-institutional variables particularly community participation, governance capacity, and institutional coordination act as the main driving forces, while economic and environmental dimensions tend to be dependent. These results indicate that the effectiveness of Danais is determined not only by financial allocation, but also by institutional coherence and strong community-based processes. Theoretically, these findings align with second-generation fiscal decentralization theory, emphasizing governance quality and accountability. However, this study has limitations, including reliance on expert judgment from focus group discussions (FGDs), which may introduce subjectivity, and its focus on a single case. In addition, the MICMAC approach has limitations in capturing dynamic interactions and causal relationships. Future research is suggested to integrate quantitative methods, such as econometric or panel data analysis, and to expand comparative studies across regions and countries, particularly in the context of asymmetric decentralization. A longitudinal approach is also needed to better understand the dynamic impacts of fiscal transfers. These efforts are expected to strengthen understanding of optimizing fiscal transfers to support inclusive and sustainable rural development.

Abstract

This study examines agricultural land degradation resulting from the home ownership credit development policy in Koya Barat Subdistrict, Jayapura City, during 2022–2023. Jayapura City has 2,135.31 hectares of agricultural land, of which 1,211.5 hectares were damaged following the construction of 25,040 housing units financed through home ownership credit in 2022. Drawing on top-down policy implementation theory, agricultural land theory, and government economic investment theory, this qualitative study analyzed data from 25 informants, including farmers, housing developers, traditional leaders, government officials, and traders. Data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation. The findings indicate that agricultural land degradation increased to 104,496 hectares as housing credit development expanded to 116,080 units in 2023, resulting in extensive conversion of agricultural land into residential areas. The study recommends halting permits for housing construction on agricultural land, as land conversion has contributed to rising agricultural commodity prices in Jayapura City markets.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze how international media framed BTS’s Jungkook’s performance at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in the context of South Korea’s cultural diplomacy and nation branding. Using a qualitative descriptive approach with content analysis assisted by NVIVO 15 software, the research examined 52 online news articles from five regional clusters such as South Korea, ASEAN, the Middle East, South Asia, and Western countries. The study applies Entman’s framing theory (1993) to identify the four main dimensions of framing: problem definition, causal interpretation, moral evaluation, and treatment recommendation. Each article was coded thematically to explore both manifest and latent meanings related to cultural diplomacy and nation branding, while sentiment analysis identified the tone and direction of coverage. The findings reveal that positive framing and sentiment dominated across all regions, especially in portraying Jungkook as a global cultural ambassador and symbol of South Korea’s soft power. Approximately 43%–49% of news articles contained positive sentiment, emphasizing Jungkook’s contribution to promoting Korean culture, while only 5%–7% showed negative sentiment, mostly from ASEAN and Western media questioning cultural dominance and commercialization. The results highlight the significant role of media in shaping global perceptions of non-state actors and strengthening South Korea’s diplomatic narratives through popular culture. This study fills the existing research gap by linking cultural diplomacy with global sports events, illustrating how celebrity representation contributes to a nation’s image-building efforts. Future research could compare audience responses across platforms to enrich understanding of cultural framing in global contexts.

Abstract

Public reception of the Indonesian animated film Jumbo was analyzed through social listening to explore supernatural elements and socio-political power relations. This study aimed to examine audience perceptions of supernatural motifs, identify interpretations of power dynamics, and generate insights into digital film reception using a mixed-methods sequential explanatory design (Creswell & Plano Clark). Primary data consisted of publicly available organic conversations from 2,700 unique authors across X (Twitter), TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, and blogs. Data were collected via Talkwalker using Boolean queries that combined the keyword “Jumbo Movie” with terms related to supernatural elements and power relations. The data collection period spanned from 28 April to 5 May 2025, resulting in a dataset of 201,000 mentions and 309,500 engagements. Quantitative analysis generated sentiment polarity, emotion distribution, and topic clusters. These results were subsequently interpreted qualitatively using Barthesian semiotics and Foucault–Gramsci power theory, and validated through cross-platform triangulation and a 10 percent manual review. The findings indicate that discussions were predominantly neutral (69.1%), followed by positive (27.4%) and negative (3.6%) sentiments. The character Meri is interpreted as a local cultural symbol and an agent of change embodying alternative spiritual power. This study concludes that social listening effectively bridges computational patterns with critical cultural analysis, positioning Jumbo as a cultural text that articulates identity and resistance in digital Indonesia. Comparative applications of this analytical protocol are recommended for other Indonesian films.

Abstract

Empowering MSME groups for a sustainable future is an initiative by the Onschool Indonesia Group aimed at enhancing the capacity of MSME actors, particularly women in Batu Roto Village, North Bengkulu Regency. This project utilizes digital technology to foster an inclusive and sustainable economic ecosystem. This study employs a descriptive quantitative approach. The sample consists of 70 members of the MSME group, including 11 men and 59 women. Data were collected through a Likert-scale questionnaire administered to members of the Batu Roto Village MSME group, whose businesses are primarily focused on the agricultural sector, as well as goods and service-based enterprises. The MSME empowerment strategy in Batu Roto Village demonstrates significant success in managerial and partnership dimensions. The synergy between entrepreneurship training and formal collaboration has effectively enhanced productivity and market resilience. However, the limited effectiveness in developing industrial centers and business sectors reveals a critical gap: individual capacity building remains suboptimal without adequate physical infrastructure support and continuous sectoral evaluation. Academically, this study contributes a “Hybrid Empowerment Model” that emphasizes social capital as a key driver in resource-constrained environments. The policy implications suggest a shift in the role of village governments—from mere providers of physical infrastructure to active facilitators of support services (IaaS). This includes conducting regular village innovation audits and institutionalizing MSME networks into legal cooperatives to strengthen their bargaining position within a more inclusive strategic partnership framework.

Abstract

This study presents a qualitative analysis that highlights a significant lack of knowledge regarding the lasting impact of community-led climate adaptation initiatives. It specifically examines the success of the Climate Village Program (ProKlim) in Tobek godang Village, Pekanbaru City, Indonesia. Although the program has been adopted across the entire country, there has been a lack of extensive research on its potential to be maintained over time and its effects on a local scale. This study provides a comprehensive evaluation of the selected village in Pekanbaru that has been awarded five ProKlim certificates, comprising of three main and two middle certificates of recognition. Data were gathered by systematic observations and comprehensive interviews with influential individuals involved in the matter. The findings suggest that Tobek godang Village has successfully implemented measures to adapt to and mitigate the impacts of climate change, including flood control, waste management, and urban greening. However, there are still some ongoing difficulties that need to be addressed. The program's ideal performance is hindered by inadequate finance, insufficient expert support, and a lack of socialization. Notwithstanding these obstacles, the village's accomplishments in community mobilization and environmental awareness are praiseworthy. The analysis recommends that the government and other stakeholders should increase their efforts to allocate funding and give expertise in order to improve program outcomes. This study provides insights into how grassroots climate programs might be scaled up in other vulnerable places. This contributes to the broader discussion on building resilience to climate change and promoting community-based environmental act.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze how the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) utilizes digital populism on platform X (formerly Twitter) to reinforce Taiwan's distinct identity and shape public opinion regarding Taiwan-China reunification. A mixed-methods approach was employed, analyzing 920 posts from 2020 to 2024. Data were examined using Naïve Bayes classification for quantitative sentiment analysis and qualitative thematic evaluation grounded in Social Identity Theory. The research results reveal three primary findings. First, the DPP successfully establishes an "in-group" identity based on progressive and democratic ideals, contrasted with an "out-group" depiction of Chinese authoritarianism. Second, although the DPP effectively controls digital discourse on sovereignty and social initiatives, sentiment analysis indicates persistent polarization in public responses. Third, while "inclusive populism" has effectively fostered group preference and political allegiance, this approach encounters constraints associated with fundamental geopolitical issues. These discoveries highlight that digital populism serves as an effective tool for identity consolidation, though it may intensify societal divisions rather than establishing a broad consensus in cross-strait interactions. This research explores the role of social media within East Asian security dynamics and examines the influence of digital communication on regional political stability.
