Abstract

This study aims to determine what factors influence the income of corn farmers in Gorontalo district (case study of Poor Corn Farmers in Gorontalo District). The data in this study are primary data by distributing questionnaires to poor corn farmers in Gorontalo Regency. The data analysis technique in this research is multiple regression. The results of this study indicate that the factors that influence the income of poor corn farmers in Gorontalo District (1) simultaneously the area of farmer Education, number of dependents in the family, land ownership status and the use of technology in corn farming significantly influence the income of poor corn farmers) in Gorontalo Regency. (2) partially only land area and land ownership status have a significant effect on the income of poor corn farmers in Gorontalo Regency. Keywords: Income, Corn Farming, Poor Farmers

Abstract

West Papua was granted Special Autonomy status in 2008 as mandated by Government Regulation No.1/2008. Special Autonomy Law has granted more or less than 30 percent of education Special Autonomy Funds for West Papua. Thus, this study evaluates the impact of Special Autonomy Law on education attainment in Indonesia. We use panel data sets of 33 regions in Indonesia that covers the period of 2001 to 2018. We employ quasi-experiment analysis, specifically the Difference-in-difference (DID) analysis in evaluating before and after effect of Special Autonomy Law in West Papua. We further develop fixed-effect model (FEM) panel data analysis in understanding the impact of Special Autonomy Law on education by controlling socioeconomic and demographic variables. DID analysis in this study suggests that Special Autonomy Law appears to worsen education attainment in West Papua. This study further found that despite positive and significant effect of education spending share on education attainment, it appears that the realization of education spending in West Papua is relatively low. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of capital expenditure in the form of regional government budgets to obtain fixed assets, the Human Development Index and Unemployment to the Poverty Level in Gorontalo Province. The data used are secondary data obtained from the Gorontalo Province Central Bureau of Statistics and the Registration Management Information System (Simreg Bappenas) during the period 2010-2015, the unit of analysis is 5 districts 1 city in Gorontalo Province. The research estimate uses panel data multiple regression analysis with the Fixed Model Effect (FEM) method. The results of the study indicate that (i) The amount of capital expenditure allocated by each region in Gorontalo Province shows a positive and significant influence on the Poverty Level in the 2010-2016 period. (ii) The Human Development Index, which is a benchmark for the achievement of an area in three basic things such as life expectancy, education level, and a decent level of life, turned out to have a positive and significant influence on the District / City Kemskinan Level in Gorontalo Province. (iii) Unemployment has a positive but not significant effect on the District / City Poverty Level in Gorontalo Province in the period 2010-2016.

Abstract

This research explores the spatial dimensions of economic growth, redistribution, and poverty reduction in Indonesia during the Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono period (i.e., from 2004 to 2014) using the poverty decomposition method, the growth incidence curve, and several pro-poor growth indices. I gathered my data from the annual National Socio-economic Surveys conducted in Indonesia between 2004 and 2014. Analyzing this data, my thesis presents three key economic insights about the Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono period:1) poverty incidence significantly declined between 2004 and 2014, 2) the economic growth that occurred during this period was generally not pro-poor, made evident by an upward sloping growth incidence curve, and 3) regional differences exist in the shape of the growth incidence curve; the pro-poorness of economic growth therefore varies between provinces. Using the classification system proposed by Kakwani and Pernia (2000), I classify provinces into the following five groups with respect to their pro-poor growth index (PPGI). Our empirical results support the pro-poor growth in a nation. However, some provinces such as North Maluku, Gorontalo and Bengkulu experienced non-pro-poor growth and weakly pro-poor. To promote the pro-poor growth in all provinces, the governmental supports in infrastructure and human capital development are essential for the above lagged provinces. Abstract

This study aims to determine the extent of the effect of government spending on changes in economic structure in Gorontalo Province 2011-2016. This study uses panel data regression analysis, with quantitative descriptive methods. and to calculate the shift in structure in Gorontalo Province using the formula (Structural Change Index). Abstract

This study estimates long run and short run association between inflation, government expenditure, and economic growth in Indonesia from 1981 to 2018. This study run diagnostic and specification test on time-series datasets in the model. This study employs Engel-Granger Cointegration Test and Error Correction Model (ECM) to estimate the long run and short run association in the model. This study further disaggregates government expenditure data in Indonesia into routine and development expenditure to analyse the individual and combined effect of the variable in the model. Result of the study suggested that the association between inflation and economic growth is negative, while the association between government expenditure and economic growth is positive. Moreover, routine expenditure has insignificant effect. Finally, ECM concluded that short-term adjustment in the model is less than one percent and specifically stable in all regression models. Keywords: Inflation, Government Expenditure, Economic Growth, ECM.

The data used were sourced from the Ministry of Finance through the Directorate General of Fiscal Balance and the Indonesian Central Statistics Agency during the 2015-2018 period, the unit of analysis was 33 provinces in Indonesia. This study uses a simultaneous equation regression model with the two stage least square (2SLS) regression technique with the Fixed Effect Model (FEM). The results showed that, (1) general allocation funds have a positive and significant effect on economic growth, which means that any increase in general allocation funds will be followed by an increase in economic growth. (2) special allocation funds have a negative and significant effect on economic growth. This means that any increase in special allocation funds will make economic growth decline. (3) income distribution inequality has a negative and significant effect on economic growth, which means that any increase in income distribution inequality can as much as reduce economic growth.
