Abstract

One of the non-communicable diseases that has become a major health problem in Indonesia is hypertension which can lead to dangerous complications such as stroke. Stroke patients often experience death and may also suffer from disability, so the preventions are urgently required. The purpose of this study was to identify stroke prevention practices among patients with hypertension. This research employed a cross-sectional design with a sample of 107 hypertension patients visiting the Cipayung Health Centre. The study was conducted from May to September 2024. Data were collected using a questionnaire and analysed through univariate, bivariate (chi-square test), and multivariate (logistic regression test) analysis. Based on the research findings, most respondents had good stroke prevention practices (70.1%). The variables that showed a significant association with stroke prevention practices were education (p=0.049; OR=2.603), knowledge (p=0.0001; OR=16.611), sources of information (p=0.033; OR=5.455), family support (p=0.001; OR=5.455), and support from health workers (p=0.047; OR=2.737). Age (p=0.813), gender (p=0.720), and attitude (p=0.115) were not statistically associated. The dominant factor was knowledge (OR=14.788), meaning that hypertensive patients with high knowledge were 14.788 times more likely to engage in stroke prevention practices compared to those with low knowledge, after controlling for family support and health worker support. Community health centers as primary healthcare facilities should implement various health programs that support efforts of non-communicable diseases preventions, such as health education, community service activities, and medical check-ups.

Abstract

Diarrhoea is the leading cause of death among children both globally and nationally, can be prevented through therapeutic play using local cultural approaches such as wayang golek cepak tegalan (traditional puppet show). Nurses play an important role as health educators in improving diarrhea prevention behaviours among school-aged children through the play. This study aimed to analyse the effects of wayang golek cepak tegalan therapeutic play on diarroea prevention behaviours among school-aged children. The research design was pre-experimental with a one-group pre- and post-test design without a control group. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling with a sample size of 38 school-aged children. The research instruments were questionnaires and observation sheets on diarrhea prevention behaviour, which included knowledge, attitudes, and practices. Data analysis used a paired sample t-test. The results showed that the average score for children's behaviour before the intervention was 62.11, while after the intervention was 84.82 with a p-value <0.001. There was an effect of therapeutic play with wayang golek cepak tegalan on diarrhea prevention behaviour among school-age children. Nurses can apply the therapeutic play of wayang golek cepak tegalan to improve diarrhoea prevention behaviour in school-aged children.

Abstract

Musculoskeletal disorders are a significant global health concern, particularly impacting informal workers who lack organized occupational health services. Participatory ergonomic approaches present a solution by engaging workers in recognizing hazards and improving their work settings. This scoping review outlines evidence on participatory ergonomic interventions for preventing MSDs in informal work environments. A search was performed across PubMed, Scopus, ProQuest, EBSCO, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar for studies published up to 2025. Studies qualified if they focused on informal workers, used participatory ergonomic approaches, and documented MSD prevention outcomes. Ten studies were selected for analysis. Interventions primarily focused on modifying tools, workstations, and facilities based on workers' body measurements and job requirements. Other approaches included ergonomic aids, stretching programs, and workplace layout reorganization. Workers participated through interviews, focus groups, observations, and risk assessments. Results showed reduced musculoskeletal complaints by up to 47.9%, improved posture, reduced workload, and increased productivity. Implementation barriers included limited finances, traditional work practices, lack of ergonomic awareness, and resistance to change. These findings highlight the need to customize interventions for specific socio-economic and cultural contexts. Participatory ergonomics can improve informal workers' health, but future studies should examine methods for ensuring long-term viability and cultural adaptation of these interventions.

Abstract

The high prevalence of smoking among adolescents poses a significant global health challenge. While resilience has been identified as a protective factor against risky behaviors, the underlying mechanisms and influencing factors have not been comprehensively synthesized. This study aimed to examine the relationship between resilience and smoking behavior among adolescents and to identify the mediating factors of this relationship through a systematic review. A systematic review design was employed following the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines. A comprehensive literature search was conducted across ScienceDirect, PubMed, ProQuest, and Scopus databases without publication year restrictions. The methodological quality of the included studies was assessed using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) Critical Appraisal Checklist for Analytical Cross-Sectional Studies. Of the 326 articles identified, 10 studies met the inclusion criteria. The results indicated that high levels of resilience were significantly associated with lower rates of smoking behavior among adolescents. Resilience functions as a protective factor through the interaction between internal assets and external resources. Family support, school connectedness, positive peer support, and mental well-being were identified as key mediating factors that strengthen resilience in preventing smoking initiation. This study concludes that health promotion strategies and nursing interventions should not only focus on the dangers of smoking but also integrate resilience-building through a holistic approach involving family and school environments.
