Abstract

The treatment of dysmenorrhea mostly used pharmacological therapy but rarely applied phytopharmaceuticals such as acupressure and aromatherapy. The purpose of this study was to analyze the application of acupressure using lemon essential oil aromatherapy to treat dysmenorrhea pain in adolescents. The research type was quantitative and the research design was quasi experiment with non-equivalent control group design. The population of this study amounted to 185. The sampling technique used a non-probability sampling approach (saturated sampling). The sample size was determined by using calculations from Sastroasmoro & Ismael with a total sample of 52 people consisting of 26 in experimental group and 26 in control group. The data analysis used Wilcoxon signed rank test to examine the experimental and control group and Mann Whitney to compare them. The results of statistical analysis using Wilcoxon signed rank test for the experimental group (p=0.000) and the control group (p=0.000) showed that lemon oil essential therapy was effective in overcoming dysmenorrhea. The results of statistical analysis using Mann Whitney obtained p value 0.000 which is smaller than (p<0.05). It can be concluded that acupressure using aromatherapy is more effective in reducing dysmenorrhea than acupressure alone. The acupressure given made the respondents relaxed and their immunity increased, and the massages using aromatherapy that is inhaled to the lungs provides benefits both psychologically and physically.

Abstract

Activities at the bus station may cause environmental pollution, including noise. High noise levels can cause human health problems, especially hearing loss. This study aims to determine the correlation between noise level and hearing loss of the population around Pakupatan Bus Station. This study used an analytical observational approach with a cross sectional design. The survey was conducted in six residences around Pakupatan Bus Station in Serang City, Banten from January to May 2018. The samples of this study were 100 respondents selected by proportional random sampling technique. The noise level of residents around Pakupatan Bus Station reached 81.09 decibels which exceeded the noise quality standard of 55 decibels in 1996 No. 48 of the Ministry of Environment. The confounding variables included age, sex, health history, type of work, smoking, drinking, and length of stay of the respondents. Type of work and length of stay were the confounding variables of the correlation between noise level and hearing loss. The odd ratio of the type of work was 0.267 and the length of stay was 0.365, so it was necessary to apply green lines or to plant trees. The residents who were exposed to noise >70dB had a risk of 4.673 times higher than the noise level 70dB after being controlled by the variable length of stay and variable work.

Abstract

Nurses’ preparedness of facing disasters plays an important role in determining the success rate of disaster management. Nurses have an important role in providing nursing actions in the phase of disaster mitigation, preparedness, response, recovery and rehabilitation. The purpose of this Literature Review was to identify nurses’ preparedness in dealing with disasters. The data collection technique was by searching for articles published in 2010 – 2020 on Pubmed, Proquest, Ebsco and Google Scholar with keyword Nurse, disaster, preparedness, disaster preparedness, and disaster management. The inclusion criteria are abstract and full text, the type of search in the database with journal articles, cross-sectional study design, published in Indonesian and English, articles published from 2010 to 2020 and articles discussing the preparedness of nurses to face disasters. The article search used PRISMA flow diagram and obtained 1859 articles, but only 12 articles were included in the article analysis review. Of the 12 articles analyzed, they show that the majority of nurses were not ready in facing disasters with a range of 46.5% - 97.5%. However, 69% of nurses were interested to participate in disaster training for preparedness of self-protection. The results of the review concluded that nurses are less than optimal in dealing with disasters, so every agency must encourage the nurse preparedness training in dealing with disasters.
