Abstract

The application of artificial reef technology has been done on Abang Island, Batam were conducted on Juni-October 2007. The research objectives are to enhance the fish population and rehabilitate marine environment in Abang island waters. The activities are particularly in assessment site selection survey for development the artificial reef, contruction and deployment of 10 unit the artificial reef at the selected sites. Parameter measured were: bathymetri, water quality aspects, current and sedimentation.The results of the assessment for marine environment condition have seen the water qualities such as temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen in the normal condition and they conduct as not as unlimited factors for artificial reef program. In other hand, the assessment of sea bed morphology have seen homogen marine topography with slope slightly, the dominant of sediment seabed is sandy beach. The deployment sites have to be selected at 3 positions are surrounded 0o 30 28.47 N ; 104o 16 5.55 E, range 20-25 meter and calm waters (low current flows).

Abstract

Corral reef in Indonesia is one of the ecosystem would be heavily damagedas same as a rain forest ecosystem. The main source of damage come fromhuman activities as land base pollution activity and un-wise fishing.Meanwhile, above problem didn t solve clearly, The potencial threat hasbeen occured. Corral reef has bleach since climate change occur in the fewdecades. This article showed about what is corral reef bleacing, what is themain problem and how to conserve it.

Abstract

Saguling reservoir is one of reservoir located in West Java Province. This reservoir primarily was planned for single purpose to generate the electricity. Water quality in this reservoir is depends on the water quality of Citarum River which have face significant change because of the increased of land use along Citarum River basin. Parameter that tends to increased as well as measured at Saguling reservoir in this study is pH, turbidity and Chlorophyll- . These results are higher than the permissible limit (PP 82/2001). Its mean that Saguling reservoir water quality is worst, and based on chlorophyll- contained 10 g/L is called as eutrophic waters

Abstract

We observed the current data in Hurun Bay, South Lampung Sumatra Hurun Bay is a small semi enclosed bay with areas up to 1.5 km2 and has four mouth river. Measuremet field around one year from Januari 2003 until Januari 2004. The two current sensor located at central of the bay and the sensor take a depth about four (4) and twelve (12) meter from surface.The continous current record indicated that the current in Hurun Bay relative small. The current velocity at June is higher and have a average value 3.98 cm/second at 4 meter and 3.94 cm/second at 12 meter from surface and commonly current velocity in bay under 50 cm/second. Keywords: pattern flow, teluk hurun, current velocity

Abstract

Effort to increase water used efficiency is one of the important aspect in the integrated embung management. The others are watershed and water storage management. Water used efficiency related, the first problem is how to deliver water from the embung storage to the water utilization area (village); and the second problem is how to use water for people consumption, cattle feeding and plant irrigation efficiently. Since theOemasi embung was built in 1991/1992 untill in 2010 some aspects were developed related to the increasing of people population in this area, i.e. developing of water tanks for people water consumption, cattle and irrigation; application of water used efficiency for cultivation of horticulture plants by using polybag potting system; and pipe network rehabilitation programme. The Oemasi embung problem and solution during the 20years of embung maintainance are the very valuable experience that can be used as a case study to manage 333 embungs that were built in the East Nusa Tenggara Province.

Abstract

Research on Lebak (fresh water) convered 100 hectars that has been conducted at Tanjung Alai, Ogan Komering Ilir district South Sumatera. This research consist of land characteristics, type and properties of Lebak, particularly zonification of Lebak type, length and hight of flooding which determined Lebak zone, fluctuation of flooding, crop scheduling of rice and soybean. Main problem of Lebak were hight flooding in the wet season and drought in the dry season on the long flooding condition it do not able to be planted cash crops. Result showed that research site can be divided into 3 type of Lebak; first, shallow Lebak has average hight flooding 97 cmto 55 cm, length flooding period 5 months and time schedule of planting since January up to May and June until Oktober; second, medium Lebak has average hight flooding 50 cm to 100 cm, 9 months flooding period, and time schedule of planting since February up to June and Juli until November; third, deep Lebak has average hight flooding 32 cm up to 140 cm, 10 months flooding period and time schedule of planting since Januari up to June and Juli until November.

Abstract

This experiment was conducted to respon the issue of global warming where carbon dioxide emmited from burning fossil fuel was expected to be the reason. The experiment was performed at Institute for Environmental Technology, Puspiptek, Serpong within 35 days. Algae (Chlorella, sp.)was cultivated in a raceway type pond. The pond has effective volume of 1000 liters provided with agitator and located in a roofed area. Basic machanism of the CO2 sequestration was photosynthesis process, where chlorophyl, water, CO2, and sun light should be present. Reasearch result identified that algae has high capability for carbon dioxide (CO2) sequestration. Therefore, algae can be utilized as an agent for carbon sink. CO2 utilized was come from commercial CO2 tank which was available in the local market and has concentration of about 45%. During experiment, the culture was fed with gradually increasing of CO2 concentration, namely 5.91%, 8.18%, and 9.16%. The macro and micro nutrients were also added into the culture. CO2 absorption by the culture in average only reached 5.34%. therefore, the increasing of CO2 fed into the culture decreased theefficiency of CO2 absorbed. During the experiment, the growth of microalgae was also elaborated.

Abstract

Environmental parameters of Hurun Bay estuary were monitored at the site of13.5 m3 floating net cages for Epinephelus cromileptes in July 2003. Averagedissolved oxygen inside cages was 3.68 6.76 ( average 5.35) mg/L with watertemperature 28.64 29.72 (29.09) oC. Salinity 32.69 33.0 (32.94) psu andturbidity 0.27 13.62 ( 1.15) NTU. Inflow rate of cages was 72 m3/hr withcurrent velocity 2.3 - 5.1 cm/s. Results showed that the functions of respirationrate for correlation between respiration of E. cromileptes and their weight wasy = 0.0065x + 0.1202 meanwhile the functions of optimum stocking density wasY = 1170.7 X -0.5648. On basis of dissolved oxygen budged, estimated optimum stocking density for lower limit was 128 ind/m3 for fish 50 g in average, 60 ind/m3 for fish 200 g and 21 ind/m3 for fish up to 1200 g.

Abstract

Embung Sirani, located 10 km from the capital city of Belu District, East Nusa Tenggara Province, is the biggest of the 27 embungs in this area. The embung has 211.2 of watershed area, 20 m of water depth and 1.860.000 m3 of water storage capacity to irigate rice field. To promote the unic and strategic embung as an ecotorism object, an ecohydrologic study was conducted in 2008. Ecotourism objects which can be developed around the Sirani embung in Belu Districts are the lake tourism, canoe ride around the embung ; agro-tourism of horticulture plant and fishing pond at the embung downstream; and agroforestry-tourism at the watershed area. Embung ecotourism as an integrated conservation by participation of the local people is needed to develop.

Abstract

The respiration rate of Hump back grouper (Cromileptes altivalis) and TigerGrouper (Epinehelus fuscogutattus) were measured in the laboratory usingfish-chamber to determine how deferent among them and how these wereaffected by body weight. Results showed body weight influenced respirationrates and there are variation of studied respiration levels between Humpback grouper and Tiger Grouper. Respiration rate of Hump back and Tigergrouper were 534,2 mgO2/h and 421,4 mgO2/h respectively. The functionsfor correlation between respiration of Humpback grouper and their weightwas y = 0.0065x + 0.1202 while for Tiger grouper was y = 0.0038x + 0.6108.
