Abstract

This research was conducted to known water quality and phytoplankton dynamics in the coastal of Harapan island. The research reveal that during the period of research the coastal water of Harapan island was an olygotrophic withphytoplankton density about 654,7-1.745 cells/ml. The phytoplankton community in November was dominated by Thalassionema sp. (303.64 cells/ml); in 10 December was by Pseudonitzchia sp (117,7 cells/ml); in 7 January was byChaetoceros sp (218 cells/ml), in 28 January was by Trichodesmium sp; (727,3cells/ml) and in 22 April was by Chaetoceros sp. (775.8 cells/ml). It have to payattention to the dominating phytoplankton community by Pseudonitzchia sp andTrichodesmium sp due to their bloom will create negative impact to otherorganisms and ecosystem stability.

Abstract

The environmental characteristics of seed and broodstock of the grouper, a reef fish species was investigated in the Pangkep water area, South Sulawesi to understand the water quality of the physical and chemical parameters condition. The environment of the Pangkep area was found in a good condition and it is suitable for habitat of the grouper as a reef fish though in some area the reef has degraded due to the utilization of an illegal fishing devise such bomb and cyanide. But application of the local wisdom in some area of Pangkep has succeeded in protecting the reef and fish population to serve the life of the islands people. Keywords: The environmental characteristics, seed and broodstock, grouper, Pangkep

Abstract

CADS_TOOL is a software decision support tool for floating net cages management which constructs of two elemens, software and technic module. It has been developed by the copyright holders (the Australian Centre of International Agriculture Research (“ACIAR”), the Australian Institute of Marine Science (“AIMS”) and the Departemen Kelautan dan Perikanan (“DKP” : Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Indonesia)as a tool. The objective of this software is to classify a site, to select the best site from several site alternatives, to calculate the sustainable holding density of a chosen site and to perform a basic economic appraisal of a farm at that site. CADS_TOOL includes 4 models for calculating holding or carrying capacity as sub-tabs under the Holding Capacity tab. For marine cages, the methods used are: Simplified MOM based on Stigebrandt et al., (2004), Tookwinas et al. (2004) and Hanafi et al. (2006), while Pulatsü et al. (2003) is used for freshwater cages in lakes/dams. In this paper will describe only a Tookwinas model.

Abstract

Indramayu is located on the North Coast of Java, and their the physical characteristics are low elevation, flat topography and slope about 2%. This region is vulnerable to sea level rise and / or high tide. The rate of sea level rise in this region is about 0.2 mm / year. This rate is not consideringexpansion of sea temperatures, and melting of polar ice volume. Based on the global scenario, the rate of sea level rise in the study area is a 10 mm / year and the year 2000 as the baseline year. Sea level around Indramayu region could expose many more thousands of people and billions of Rupiahs in assets to flooding. To investigate this condition, four sea level events (0.5, 1.0, 2:53 and 3:03 m) are considered in this study. Based on 0.5 and 1.0 meter of sea level four sub-district (Kandanghaur, Losarang, Sindang and Indramayu) can be inundated. For 2.53 and 3.03 meterof sea level, the flood direction to the south and almost the entire northern coast of Indramayu is affected by flooding. Four scenarios of sea level can predict the flood area, that are, around 2900, 7300, 34 600 and 42 000 ha. Number of people exposed and threatened by floods due to changes in sea level is approximately 29 000, 100 000, 351 000 and 579 000 inhabitants. The more widespread and the number of people threatened by flooding, the amount of the loss is also higher, namely 1.1, 1.9, 82.6 and 104.3 billion rupiah. In the period of 0.5 and 1.0 meter of sea level, the highest losses are in the fish pond sector, but when combined with high tide (sea surfaceheight reaches 2.53 and 3.03 m) then the paddy fields suffered very high losses.

Abstract

Lebak bog farm (fresh water) potency in big enough Muara Enim District, South Sumatera, that is 12.684 hectare, what consist of 6.342 hectare shallow/superficial lebak, 3.805,2 hectare middle lebak, and 2.536,8hectare deep lebak. Lebak bog farm exploiting specially causeway lebak or skin-deep have constraint, that is newly can be exploited in the situation irrigate wet up to height of water 30 cm, is later then cultivated by other food crop or paddy while at dry condition cannot cultivate, with such condition of farm can only cultivate once plant in one year (IP 100 %). To overcome the above mentioned problem is way of which is gone through is by applying technology management of better water by making surjan rice field and constructively pump irrigating of problems of water can overcome, goodness when the rains and alsowhen dry season, so that lebak bog farm can be laboured by thrice planting in one year ( IP 300 %).

Abstract

A study of the plankton variability and their community structure in the Southern Coastal Area of East Java-Bali-Lombok was conducted to obtain the information of their characteristics and the status of microscopic marine organism in relation to the marine environment on the based of the biological observation. The results show that the marine environment ecologically was stable and productive due to the upwelling occurrencein the South East Monsoon. The plankton communities generally can be found consist of three classes of the phytoplankton (Cyanophyceae, Dinophyceae and Bacillariophyceaea) and two classes of zooplankton (Ciliata and Crustacea). There is no dominance of certain plankton in the observation area and the distribution among the species are relatively proportional.

Abstract

An impact of the land surface run off on the water quality was observed at Batam Mariculture Estate during the flood tide of the Southeast Monsoon. The existing of land surface run off was significantly identified on the increasing of the turbidity as well as total suspended solid (TSS) concentration in the nearby of the upper eastern part of the shoreline and it spread up to the southern part driven by surface current. As consequence, the water quality was degraded, particularly on the water transparency. The land surface run off was also increasing the phosphate concentration that stimulated and promoted on the increasing of the chlorophyll-a and dissolve oxygen (DO). But the nitrogen compound (nitrate and nitrite), and silicate were not affected. Keywords: Land surface run off, water quality, Batam Mariculture Estate

Abstract

Water resources should be managed integratively in the term of forestry, agriculture, social economy, conservation and civilian. Bone-Bolango Regency, in the center, eastern and western part, passed by Bone dan Bolango Rivers. The upstream area of Bone and Bolango Rivers is Nani Wartabone national conservation forest. The watershed of Bone and Bolango Rivers are located among Bone Bolango, Gorontalo, Limboto, and Gorontalo Major region in the Gorontalo Province, meanwhile in thelarger system, they have share watershed to the North Sulawesi Province.Until now the watershed of Bone-Boelango is managed by Balai Pengelolaan DAS Boen Bolango, whereas groundwater resources develepment managed by P2AT, and local stakeholders such as Dinas Kimpraswil Tingkat I Propinsi Gorontalo and Dinas Kimpraswil Pemda Tingkat II Kabupaten Bone Bolango. The analysis of the annual debit of Bone and Bolango Rivers show that the trend of the average debit ratio to theminimum debit of the same year show gradually higher than dan before because of the deforestration of Bone and Bolango Rivers in the upstream of the rivers. So we have to manage the DAS of Bone and Bolango Rivers by the ecosistem approach to improve the deterioration of the the rivers.

Abstract

Efforts to anticipate and overcome fire occurrence in wetland wood industries are not effective to reduce fire occurrence in dry season. This paper presents our research in Sebangun Bumi Andalas Wood Industries (SBAWI), South Sumatra that aims to (a) find effective water table depth to reduce fire danger, and (b) propose forest management schemes based on water management to reduce fire danger. We monitored daily rainfall, air temperature, and water table depth for period of 1 April 2009 to 11 May 2010 for data input to our model. Fire danger rating was assessed using KBDI model that have been modified to meet local condition of SBAWI, South Sumatra. The results showed that KBDI reached extreme level in August and September 2009 when rainfall was low. Using an analysis of time intensity curve (TI curve) of KBDI, we obtained KBDI onset rate was 12/day. Critical water table depth that is able to reduce KBDI value was 0.66m. The more water table depth than this value, the more KBDI value was. The onset rate was used as basis for water management option to maintain water table depth less than the critical value. Several water management options were described in this paper based on fire danger level and season.
