Abstract

Background: Stress is a condition that requires individuals to react physically, psychologically, and behaviorally to a change. Sleep quality is a measure of how well a person sleeps. Increased stress and poor sleep quality can affect nurses' health conditions (physical, psychological, behavioral) and work performance.Objective: To determine the correlation between stress levels and the sleep quality of nurses at Gotong Royong Hospital Surabaya.Methods: Cross-sectional method was carried out with a purposive sampling technique. Data collection was done online using Jotform. The stress level questionnaire used was the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) and sleep quality with the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). PSS results consist of mild, moderate, and severe stress, while PSQI results are good and bad sleep quality.Results: 72 people (92.3%) experienced moderate stress, and 64 (82.1%) had poor sleep quality. From the Spearmancorrelation test results, a significance value of 0.069 (p>0.05) was obtained, which means it was not significant.Conclusion: There is no correlation between stress levels and the sleep quality of nurses at Gotong Royong Hospital Surabaya.

Abstract

Background: Tobacco is one of the biggest public health threats in the world. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the use of cigarettes causes the death of ± 8 million people per year worldwide. About 1.2 million are passive smokers who are exposed to cigarette smoke. Mucociliary transport is the first line in the defense mechanism of the nose that works actively to keep the respiratory tract always clean. Exposure to cigarette smoke can increase mucus secretion. Ciliary movement can also be obstructed, thereby interfering with nasal mucociliary transport. Inflammation of the nasal mucosa due to Allergic Rhinitis will obstruct the nose, which can interfere with the work of mucociliary transport.Objective: This study aims to analyze the effect of cigarette smoke on mucociliary transport in Allergic Rhinitis patients.Methods: This research is an observational study using a cross-sectional research method that was carried out at PHC Surabaya Hospital.Results: 20 RA patients were divided into two groups: ten smokers and ten non-smokers. The saccharin test measured mucociliary transport time. The mucociliary transport time for smokers was 8.72 minutes and 4.82 minutes for non-smokers. The results of the Mann-Whitney test obtained a significance value of p = 0.019 < α = 0.05.Conclusions: There is a significant difference in mucociliary transport time between smoking RA patients, where the mucociliary transport time of smoking patients is longer than that of non-smokers.

Abstract

Introduction: In the human body, microplastics are considered toxic agents. Low-density polyethylene (LDPE) has very high chemical resistance, making it very difficult to be degraded by microorganisms. LDPE plastic would be degraded to a smaller size and could not be completely degraded by microorganisms. Plastic packaging made from LDPE is the most commonly found plastic waste. Microplastics may cause cell injury, especially cells in the liver, the primary organ for detoxification. Microplastic induces reactive oxygen species, which leads to oxidative stress. Prolonged exposure to microplastics leads cells unable to cope with the toxic effects. Furthermore, this process triggers fatty degeneration and necrosis. This study aims to explain the correlation between microplastic oral intake with fatty degeneration and necrosis of hepatocytes in animal models. Methods: Forty-two Wistar rats were involved and assigned to one control and five experimental groups. The experimental groups were given microplastic exposure starting from 0.0375 mg/day to 0.6 mg daily for 90 days. Results: Fatty degeneration and necrosis were observed using a light microscope with hematoxylin-eosin staining. There was a significant correlation between microplastic oral intake and hepatocyte necrosis (p<0.05). The higher the exposure dose, the more hepatocyte necrosis. In contrast, there was no correlation between microplastic exposure and fatty degeneration. Ingestion of microplastics leads to hepatocyte necrosis. Conclusion: Oral intake of LDPE microplastics with <20 µm in size for 90 days in Wistar rats leads to hepatocellular injury. Based on histopathological images, hepatocyte necrosis was more prominent than hepatocyte fatty degeneration.

Abstract

Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common malignancies reported in Indonesia, and it takes the fourth position as the most prevalent cancer just after lung carcinoma. Worldwide prevalence of CRC in 2020 is 34.189 cases, contributing to the 8.6% of all cancers reported. The diagnosis of nm is established through advanced examination such as colonoscopy, although other supporting examinations, consisted of occult blood test and histopathology examination are also performed to further evaluate the diagnosis. Pathogenesis of CRC involves the pro-carcinogenic factors (IL-6, IL-1 and TNFα) accompanied by genetic mutation that predominate the anti-carcinogenic factors ; this pathological process underlies the occurrence of CRC.Objectives: This study aimed to analyze the correlation between the degree of colorectal adenocarcinoma differentiation and infiltration with tissue IL-6 expression.Methods: This study conducted observational analytic method with retrospective study design. The degree of colorectal adenocarcinoma differentiation and infiltration were identified through histopathological examination; the degree of tissue IL-6 expression was measured by the absorption rate of pigment containing anti-IL-6. Correlation test was performed by using Spearman Rank test on SPSS version 25.Results: There was a significant correlation between the degree of adenocarcinoma differentiation with tissue IL-6 expression (p = 0.039; < 0.05), but not with the degree of tumor infiltration (p = 0.129 ; > 0.05). Statistical test also showed negative, significant correlation between sex and IL-6 expression, indicating male predominance of IL-6 expression on colorectal adenocarcinoma cases ; this finding is supported with T-test that revealed significant difference of interleukin-6 expression between male and female sex.Discussion: The reported results in this study correspond with the previous studies conducted, except for the correlation between the tumor infiltration and interleukin-6 expression. Tumor infiltration along with its differentiation describe a complex process and influenced by various factors, including hormone, cytokines, and growth factors.Conclusion: Tissue IL-6 expression is correlated with the degree of colorectal adenocarcinoma differentiation, but not with the degree of infiltration.

Abstract

Introduction: Microplastic bioaccumulation in nephron tissue can cause high levels of nephron mitochondrial reactive oxygen species, endoplasmic related stress proteins and inflammation-related proteins.Material and methods: This study observed damage to the tubular and glomerular structures of experimental animals due to oral intake of microplastics. 46 Wistar rats used were divided into one control(C)  and five experimental groups (Xn). The experimental group was exposed to low-density polyethylene microplastic doses of 0.0375 mg, 0.075 mg, 0.15 mg, 0.3 mg and 0.6 mg daily for 90 days with the probe, respectively. Damage to the tubular and glomerular structures was observed through microscopic examination of the preparations stained with hematoxylin eosin.Results: The results of One-Way ANOVA test showed a significant difference between groups with tubular damage (p <0.05). Meanwhile, the results of Kruskal Wallis test showed a significant difference between groups with glomerular damage (p <0.05).Conclusion: Multiple comparation indicated that exposure to microplastic started at 0.0375 mg daily had led to damage to the tubular and glomerular. Ingestion of microplastic particles causes renal tubular and glomerular damage in Wistar rats.

Abstract

Background: Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). C-Reactive Protein (CRP) is an inflammatory protein that is synthesized in the liver and produced in response to inflammation. Several studies have shown a relationship between CRP levels and the severity of COVID-19.Objective: This study aims to analyze the relationship between CRP levels and the severity of COVID-19 at Gotong Royong Hospital Surabaya.Methods: This study used a cross-sectional design. Data collected through medical records from COVID-19 patients who were hospitalized at Gotong Royong Hospital Surabaya from July to December 2021.Results: There are 82 samples were collected in this study. Based on statistical analysis test, there is a significant relationship between CRP level and severity of COVID-19 with p = 0.000. The value of correlation coefficient is 0.660 which is indicating a positive correlation with a strong relationship between CRP levels and the severity of COVID-19. A high CRP level indicates a wider inflammation in the body, which is related to the severity of COVID-19.Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between CRP levels and the severity of COVID-19

Abstract

Background: Many things can cause hepatotoxicity, including the use of chemicals such as acetaminophen consumed in toxic doses. Acetaminophen destroyed can damage liver tissue, block the biliary tract and end the release of ALP into the blood. Jujube fruit has antioxidants like flavonoids and phenolic, which can ward off free radicals due to excessive consumption of acetaminophen. Purpose: Knowing how giving dried red jujube fruit extract affects ALP levels of induced Wistar rats acetaminophen. Method: The method used is Posttest-Only Control Group Design. The technique used in examining ALP levels is using a colorimetric test essay which refers to the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine. The experimental animals used were Wistar rats which were given dried red jujube fruit extract doses of 70, 140, and 280 mg/kg BW for ten days. On the 9th day, the rats have induced with an acetaminophen dose of 3 g/kg BW, and on the 11th day, termination was carried out to examine ALP levels in the blood. Results: In this study, the normality test was generally distributed with a value of K(-) = 0.086, K(+) = 0.600, Kp1 = 0.156, Kp2 = 0.074, and Kp3 = 0.446. In the homogeneity test, the value of p = 0.0254 was obtained. On testone-way ANOVA, significant results were obtained with a p = 0.00. In the correlation test, a matter of 0.00 was obtained, which means a relationship exists between dried red jujube fruit extract and ALP levels. Conclusion: Giving dried red jujube fruit extract has an effect on ALP levels in induced rats' acetaminophen toxic dose.

Abstract

Background: Changes in sleep patterns that occur in college student due to the alteration of direct learning system, after 2 years of long distance education caused by the COVID-19 pandemic affect the adaptation process of circadian rhythm. Poor sleep quality that happened because of sleep changes patterns is liable to increased the mortality risk due to the escalation incidence of chronic diseases, cardiovascular disorder such as hypertension for the example. The prevalences of adolescent (population > 18 years) with hypertension in Indonesia is quite high at 34.11%.Objective: The study aims to learn the relationship between sleep quality and college student blood pressure in Widya Mandala Catholic University Surabaya.Method: The study used a cross-sectional approach in UKWMS faculty of medicine student. The method that used in this research, was simple random sampling and obtained 80 respondents. The data was carried out by sharing questionnaires in google forms that contains data related to sleep quality, after that we measured the blood pressure.Result: in this study, it was found out that the majority was the respondents who had a good sleep quality and normal blood pressure with a total of 37 students (77.1%), good sleep quality and abnormal blood pressure with a total of 11 students (22.9%), bad sleep quality and normal blood pressure with a total of 13 students (34.2%), bad sleep quality and abnormal blood pressure with a total of 25 students (65.8%) the result were p=0.00 (p<0.05), so it can be concluded that there was a relationship between sleep quality and blood pressure in Widya Mandala college student Surabaya.

Abstract

Background : Hypertension is a condition that blood pressure in a person increases with systolic 140 mmHg and/or diastolic 90 mmHg, either based on clinical measurements or health care facilities. Hypertension is often called a "silent killer". Risk factors associated with the incidence of hypertension include age and gender. Goals : To examine the correlation between age and degree of hypertension in adults and the correlation between gender and degree of hypertension in adults at the Cardiology Clinic of Gotong Royong Hospital in Surabaya.Method : This research used an analytical observational method with a cross-sectional design. Data accumulation was obtained through medical records from the Cardiology Clinic of Gotong Royong Hospital in Surabaya. This research used simple random sampling as the sampling technique. Meanwhile, the expected analysis results from this research are p-value ≤ 0.05 and r value = 0.8 – 1.00.Result : The result of analysis after the Spearman test about the correlation between age and degree of hypertension in adults at the Cardiology Clinic of Gotong Royong Hospital in Surabaya this research found p value = 0.938 which is interpreted as a non-significant correlation and r value=   -0.012, which is interpreted as a very weak correlation. Then, the result of the analysis of the correlation between gender and degree of hypertension in adults at the Cardiology Clinic of Gotong Royong Hospital in Surabaya had a p-value = 0.632, which is interpreted as a non-significant correlation and an r value = -0.072, which is interpreted as very weak correlation.Conclusion : There is no correlation between age and degree of hypertension in adults, nor between gender and degree of hypertension in adults at the Cardiology Clinic of Gotong Royong in Surabaya.

Abstract

Background: One of the risk of breast cancer is Obesity (BMI > 23Kg/m2) related to estrogen production between pre-menopause and post-menopause.Aim: To investigate the difference of breast cancer estrogen receptor (ER) in obese women based on menopausal status.Methods: This study was retrospective cross-sectional from secondary data (Medical Records) from Poliklinik Onkologi Satu Atap (POSA) RSUD Dr. Soetomo (ICD-10 C50) from 2013-2017 with inclusion criteria was BMI >23Kg/m2. Data were analyzed using Chi-Square.  Results: There were 138 patient medical records collected which is 63 were obese pre-menopause and 75 were obese post-menopause. There were statistically a significant difference (p<0,05) based on Chi square test of breast cancer estrogen receptor for obese post-menopause women (66,7%) to obese pre-menopause (39,7%). Obese post-menopause women have 1,68 times greater risk factor to become estrogen receptor positive (ER+) compared to obese pre-menopause women. (PR = 1,68; 95% CI = 1,191-2,370)  Conclusion : There is a significant difference of breast cancer estrogen receptor in obese post-menopause women more frequent than obese pre-menopause women.
