Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between students' perceptions of teacher competency—aligned with Indonesia's four-domain framework in Government Regulation 74/2008—and Arabic learning motivation at MTs Ummul Quro Pekanbaru. Using a quantitative correlational design, we drew a stratified random sample of 193 students from a population of 373 and administered two questionnaires (teacher competency perceptions: 22 items, α = 0.891; Arabic learning motivation: 14 items, α = 0.894). After listwise deletion, Spearman's rho on 191 paired composites showed a strong positive association (ρ = 0.689, p < .001; ρ² ≈ 0.475). The pattern is consistent with Self-Determination Theory and Social Cognitive Theory and supports an operational model linking national competency domains, global student perceptions, and Arabic motivation in this junior secondary madrasah. Findings are contextual to a single site and do not establish causality; they nonetheless imply that quality education agendas in similar Islamic schools should couple motivational initiatives with structured monitoring of teacher competency as students experience it in daily Arabic classes.

Abstract

Pesantren are the oldest Islamic educational institutions in Indonesia and play a strategic role in education, da'wah (Islamic propagation), and community empowerment. The development of Islamic education policies has strengthened the position of pesantren through the enactment of Law Number 18 of 2019 on Pesantren and its implementing regulations. This study aims to analyze Islamic education policies related to pesantren institutions, examine their implications for institutional development, and identify challenges in their implementation. The study employs a library research method with a descriptive-analytical approach. Data were collected from laws and regulations, books, scholarly journals, and official documents issued by the Ministry of Religious Affairs. The findings indicate that government policies have provided recognition, affirmation, and facilitation for pesantren, thereby strengthening their legal legitimacy, institutional governance, access to funding, and quality development. However, policy implementation continues to face several challenges, including bureaucratization, limited human resources, disparities in facilities among pesantren, and the potential reduction of institutional autonomy due to the application of uniform administrative standards. Therefore, adaptive and contextual policies are needed to ensure that the strengthening of pesantren institutions remains aligned with their characteristics, traditions, and independence as community-based Islamic educational institutions.

Abstract

Generation Z is an age group that grew up in the digital era with high intensity use of social media, making platforms like Instagram one of the main means of expressing themselves. One of the growing phenomena is the use of a second Instagram account as a more private and comfortable space to express feelings. However, not all individuals are capable of optimal self-disclosure, which can be influenced by psychological conditions such as loneliness. This study aims to examine the relationship between loneliness and self-disclosure in generation Z users of second Instagram accounts. This research uses a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The research participants were 275 generation Z users of the second Instagram account obtained through purposive sampling techniques. Data collection was carried out using the Revised Self Disclosure Scale (RSDS) and the UCLA Loneliness Scale Version 3. Data analysis used the Pearson correlation test. The results showed that there was a significant negative relationship between loneliness and self-disclosure (r = -0.303; p < 0.001), with loneliness contributing 9.2% to self-disclosure. These findings show that the higher an individual's level of loneliness, the lower their self-disclosure, and vice versa. It is hoped that this research can contribute to understanding the psychological factors that influence self-disclosure in generation Z, especially in the context of using a second Instagram account.
