Abstract

Tourism is an important of the Indonesia economy as well as a significant soure of the country's foreign exchange revenues. According to the Center of Data and Information- Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the growth of foreign visitor arrivals to Indonesia has increased rapidly by 9.61 percent since 2010 to present. One of the most potencial tourism destinations is Komodo Island located in East Nusa Tenggara. With the island's unique qualities, which include of habitat of the Komodo dragons and beautiful and exotic marine life, it is likely to be one of the promising tourism destinations in Indonesia and in the world. In 1986, the island has been declarated as a World Heritage site by UNESCO. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism countinously promotes many of the country's natural potential in tourism through various media: printed media, television and especially new media. However, there challenges for Indonesian tourism industry in facilitating entrepreneurship skills among the local people in East Nusa Tenggara. According to the Central Boreau of Statistics (2011), East Nusa Tenggara is considered as one of the poorest provinces in Indonesia where the economy is lower than the average, with a high inflation of 15% , and unemployment of 30%. This research is needed to explorefurther the phenomenon behind the above facts, aiming at ex-amining the role of new media in facilitating entrepreneurship in the tourism industry in Komodo Island. The result of this study are expected to provide insights that can help local tourism in East Nusa Tenggara. Keywords: Tourism, Enterpreneurship, New Media

Abstract

Tradisi  "Hermeneutika” sudah dikenal dalam mitologi Yunani lewat figur Hermes yang dikenal piawai menafsirkan pesan "dunia atas” atau realitas ontologis untuk disampaikan kepada manusia. Kemudian, Hermeneutika dipraktikkan para pakar untuk menemukan makna hakiki sebuah teks alkitab.Sekolah Frankfrut kemudian mengembangkan metode Hermeneutika sebagai cabang filasafat yang mencapai puncaknya pada Gadamar. Akan tetapi, hermeneutika baru menarik perhatian para pakar Amerika pada 1976.Di Indonesia, Hermeneutika belum banyak digunakan untuk studi komunikasi, padahal hermeneutika dapat membongkar makna yang terselubung di balik realtias yang ada di balik teks dan wacana secara radikal.

Abstract

This research aims to present an analysis toward TV One as one of Indonesian television stations, whether it works in line with the concept McQuail's media performance and the concept of empathy journalism coined by Ashadi Siregar. TV One coverage on the missing Air Asia QZ 8501 is purposively selected to be analysed using case study method. The data collected is analyzed based on disaster journalism perspective and ethical guide on Broadcasting Code of Conduct and Program Standards (P3SPS). The missing Air Asia QZ 8501 at the end of December 2014 shows TV One prioritized speed and sensationalism in delivering the story, rather than considering on the kind of news that ideally received by the audience. This articles highlights the way TV One covered the Air Asia tragedy, mainly on its breaking news which reported the finding of floating dead bodies on the ocean few days after the accident.

Abstract

ass media evolves along with the technological advancement, in which the internet enables better access of information, both the reception and the distribution of information. Magazine is one of the mass media that also benefitted from the technology development and internet connection, as it can produce online or digital version. The internet offers easier access to mass media, interactivity, and reduction in the cost of production and distribution. However, there are also some risks and side effects of the popularity of online mass media. GADIS magazine, founded 35 years ago, also publishes digital or online version. This research analyzes the digital content of GADIS magazine and interviewed the editors of the magazine. From the point of view of the editorial department, this research analyzes the steps and considerations of the magazine in publishing its digital content. The result is expected to reveal the views of the magazine's editorial department in anticipating and responding to the risk of technological use, mainly for the digital or online magazine. Abstract

Humans need to communicate to each other to survive. One of the functions of communication is to encourage people to interact with people from different cultures. Culture and communication are inseparable. Each culture has a way of communicating differently from each other. Some intercultural communication theories focus on the phenomena of culture shock and stereotype. Graduated from high school, at the age ranging between 17 to 18, many teenagers continue their study abroad. Some to the United States as the second favorite destination for Indonesian students. This study discusses the possibility culture shock and stereotype experienced by Indonesian students who are studying in America. Using qualitative research methods, the results show that each individual had different levels and ways of adaptation in facing the culture shock they experienced. The stereotype experienced by the Indonesian students is not necessarily lead to discriminative. Indonesian students who wish to continue their studies in America are advised to communicate with an open mind, as not everyone can easily blend in to different cultures. Abstract

Indonesia is one of the world's tourist destinations. Therefore, Indonesian tourism must be built and developed. Taman Wisata Candi (TWC) Borobudur, as one of the tourist attractions with its beauty and grandeur, becomes the main attraction for all people. The purpose of the research is to find out whether public relations activities conducted by the TWC can increase the image of the temple or not. This is a descriptive qualitative research. The data was gathered through interview and observation. The sources of this research were visitors and public relations officer of TWC. The result of this research shows that the internal activities conducted by public relations officer of Taman Wisata Candi Borubudur such as employee relations, field trip, internal magazine, personal contact and sport, made the employees felt appreciated and cared and this indirectly creates a sense of belonging from the employees towards the institution. The external activities conducted, such as customer relations, community and pers relations, indirectly influenced the visitor perceptions towards the image of TWC Borobudur in terms of service to the community and also improve the relationship with media. It shows that the internal and external activities carried out by the public relations of TWC Borobudur give positive impact and indirectly improve the image of TWC Borobudur among the society. Abstract

Human communicate to fulfill their basic needs as social being. This communication ethnography research aims to see communication behavior between female students in Santa Ursula, a homogenous high school in Jakarta. The study also seeks to find the values and norms which can be seen through the students interaction. The data is analyzed using S-P-E-A-K-I-N-G model of Dell Hymes, an anthropologist who introduced the method of communication ethnography. The research shows that students in homogenous school create a social group with their own distinctive communication behavior and speech codes which were developed through frequent interactions between students. It can be concluded that the communication behavior of students in homogenous school is formed based on the characteristic of students who are accustomed to similar gender treatment and are tied by common norms. This communal group communicates any time, even outside formal or informal events. Keywords: communication behavior, homogenous school, communication ethnography

Abstract

The availability of internet service in Indonesia has enabled online learning. Through the portal provided by the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture (http://belajar.kemdikbud.go.id), internet user from all backgrounds can access various learning materials. Rumah Belajar portal is an online learning media which purposively developed for teachers and students to easily access learning materials. This portal facilitates interactivity between teachers and students with the portal. Through this portal, students and teachers can access learning materials, perform interactive simulation, communicate and interact with education communities. This research aims to explore the influence of technology acceptance on the usability of Rumah Belajar portal. The result shows a strong relation between internet technology acceptance as learning media by user and the goal and attitude of informants in accessing the portal. The user perception on the usability of Rumah Belajar portal has a close correlation with satisfaction, download delay, and the content. Abstract

he advancement of communication media and technology requires audience to have the knowledge and skill of media literacy for them to use the media in an appropriate way. For that purpose, media literacy trainings with various forms, materials and purposes, have been done frequently in many areas of Indonesia. This research aims to find the relation between the goals of media literacy training and important aspects in media literacy skill. This research uses qualitative approach with descriptive analysis. The result shows that many media literacy trainings in Indonesia have not been consistent in adjusting the goals and the essential aspects of media literacy skill. It means the conceptual understanding and study of media literacy have not adequately performed by the activists. It is expected that the result of this study could encourage similar research by elaborating theory and concept of media literacy which can be used to develop the curriculum of media literacy training program. Abstract

ABSTRACTJournalism works cannot be separated from its inherent values. The values, such as objectivism, speed, and balance, have been the journalist professional norms. However, some journalism values hamper the works and might produce on shallow reporting. In an attempt to address the problem, journalism adopt etnographic approach in social science, or known as ethno-journalism. Ethno-journalism is important in producing holistic and indepth report amid the focus of journalism on speed. This research aims to analyse the practice of ethno-journalism in the production of Jakarta Unfair documentary. This qualitative research uses explanatory analysis from case study model of Robert E.
