Abstract

People’s perception about women describes how women tend to be labelized with various drawbacks. Futhermore, many films put women as appendages to satisfy the desire of seeing the physical polish only, without portraying positive side of a woman which actually represents her personal integrity. Nevertheless, the struggle of women to prove their existence is unstoppable, such as in “The Iron Lady” movie. The movie intends to persuade women that they need to pump out the power within them to boldly express their thoughts, come out from the mutedness and show their superiority, in smart ways, woman way. Besides, the movie shows some gender imbalances in Parliament and political life which are synonymous with patriarchal ideology. The movie also shows the struggle against the suppression and mutedness of women with the feminist existentialist concept. This study used critical paradigm with Roland Barthes’ semiotic discourse analysis. Research reveals how women represented in "The Iron Lady" and how symbols or values of women should be represented. Results show that women can actually defend themselves and even more after understanding the suppressions. Amid the crush and the dominance of parliamentary colleagues, Thatcher was able to align her position. Though overall ridiculed, doubted, and disbelieved her ability, she took the duty and responsibility as politician and stateswoman. Woman, who is able to oversee, maintain and nurture the country, even stronger, more resilient, and more manly than men.

Abstract

Indonesia is now on the transition toward the Age of Information Society. In this period, the pattern of gathering as well as distributing information change. This situation is in accordance with the change of human lifestyle as the concequences of Information Communication Technology (ICT) adoption. Their tools in communicating offer more opportunies and interactive characteristics. Moreover, the use of social media applications, which one of them is blog based on web 2.0, opens possibilities for the audience to give more active roles in gathering and distributing news, just like what professional journalists do. The question now is about how the practioners of mainstream news face this phenomenon, what they should do to maintain their existence in media industry. They should not ignore the growth of virtual community as well as citizen journalism. They cannot also pretend that there is no change on their audience behavior in consuming media. On the contrary, they do need to give space to their audiences who are in transtition toward the age of information society, to participate creatively in gathering and producing information.

The dimensions of OCB consist of altruism, conscientiousness, sportsmanship, courtesy, civic virtue. The factors affect the OCB, namely: culture and climate, personality and mood, organizational support, quality of interaction superiors and subordinates, tenure and gender. Implications of OCB are quality of service, performance groups, and turnover. Abstract

From the beginning until now, religion has always been a paradoxical term. Religion has become an ambiguous term because it has both thesis and antithesis that are closely inherent. The thesis is that religion is positive strength striving for virtue, salvation, prosperity, happiness, and peace in the reality of human society globally and locally. On the other hand, religion also appears as negative force to be the antithesis of the religion itself. Problems rise on the religion lie not in the thesis but in the antithesis because thesis and antithesis are always accompanying the dynamics of religion in society reality. So that, it needs a "third way" as a tool to harmonize, align, and reconcile the contradiction. Research used qualitative method with critical hermeneutic approach intended to evaluate the antithesis of religion and show constructive side towards a better future. Based on the results and discussion, there is one thing called synthesis of religion. The synthesis area of religion should be an element that continues to be explored and optimized in order to create peace in the contemporary world and in the future. It takes an appreciation of positivistic religion so religion really becomes a force to liberate human beings from various negative phenomena which discolour the realm of religion.

Abstract

There are many problems in human tragedy occur today, where people kill, harass and commit acts of violence against each other. It can be seen either on electronic or print media. Many things could cause it. However, if the main cause is contemplated, it is because humans do not appreciate others. Man has left his human nature, so he is not able anymore to humanize humans, treate others important and valuable. Humans seem to have started to lose humanity. Humans have failed to maintain their nature as social beings and God's creatures are precious. Man forgets and fails to perform his social responsibility to protect, love and do good and noble. Humans have failed to position and treat others as beings that should be protected and cherished. Animals kill animals, so do humans. Proved there are plenty of people to kill, harass and commit acts of violence against each other, either directly or indirectly. Humans have moral decline, ethics and religion by abandoning the essential dignity. The most surprising is apparently the inability to respect others, not only the uneducated but also the educated. Apparently education is not always directly proportional to good morals. This is proved with the brawl between students, universities and students and faculty. Therefore, every person and especially she/he in the world of education is supposed to teach and emphasize the importance of appreciate others in the learning process and in everyday life in order to create harmony and peace on earth.

Eventhough there were pros and cons about a new curriculum, in the early academic year of 2013-2014 the Ministry of Education and Culture made an arrangement of new curriculum 2013. The curriculum would be done in classification (step by step) for basic education (elementary and secondary school) and also middle education. This study aims to get some information about the reason of the curriculum was designed. Moreover research used literature study to learn and understand the reason about government’s decision to implement the curriculum. The results showed that the curriculum is essentially an effort to simplify the curriculum using thematic-integrative model and emphasizing on natural, social, art, and culture phenomena. The emphasis is to enhance the ability of learners (students) to observe, ask, use their reason and communicate (present) their knowledge after receiving learning materials at school. Nonetheless, there are some things that should have serious attention from the government, which, if they are not anticipated, become obstacles to the successful implementation of the curriculum 2013. These things include training of the teachers and other education personnels to implement the curriculum 2013, the availability of handbook for teachers and students, as well as the governance readiness in education unit-level.
