Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of a brief mindfulness based intervention to promote posttraumatic growth in cancer patients. The research design used was untreated control group design with pretest and posttest samples. Subjects in this study were 21 cancer patients that were divided into an experimental group (n = 10) and a control group (n = 11). Data were analyzed using Anova Mixed Design. The analysis showed significant changes of posttraumatic growth in the experimental group (MD=-14,400; p=0,000, p<0,05) and in the control group changes of posttraumatic growth were not significant (MD=-0,273, p=0,914, p>0,05). The results show that a brief mindfulness based intervention, which in this case is mindfulness training and yield significant results towards increased scores of posttraumatic growth in cancer patients. Hence, mindfulness based intervention can be used as one of psychotherapy to help individual psychologically growth.

Abstract

The objectives of the article were to study the branding strategy of a new age media company through social media with storytelling, how it could be utilized in the building of brand image, and what were the special characteristics of storytelling in social media environment, especially Instagram. The study provided an overview of factors in the online content update from social media to elevate interaction and to maintain the relationship between the company and its audience. Also specifying the points on how the information looked desirable to the customer. The qualitative descriptive content analysis was conducted to investigate how a new age media company with Instagram as the platform, which products were intangible and used storytelling in the delivery utilizes and mixes both components. Data were obtained by conducting the in-depth interview with company’s representative, public relations practitioner, and a follower of the company’s Instagram account, which then analyzed through data reduction. The research suggests that storytelling combined with social media features potentially strengthens all dimensions of brand equity with the brand image as the focus, primarily due to its engaging content, its ability to enhance the formation of an emotional connection, and its capabilities in improving recall and recognition. Branding activities conducted by Proud through Instagram can be said to be effective, taking into account the six main factors in providing updates, namely vividness, interactivity, informational content, entertaining content, position and valence of comments. Storytelling plays a role in communicating the company's brand and value. In addition, storytelling is also a branding tool that becomes an element that uniquely unveils a company with a competitor.

Abstract

This article discussed manga and visual language that had been used on the Japanese fiction graphic narrative as a case study and graphic biography as a comparison. It implemented literature study approach on illustration, specifically, sequential art literature to obtain data as well as finding a theoretical framework to strengthen research results. The article began with a brief history of Japanese comics, then would be discussed the definition and common form of manga and how-to extent the media to convey the information and to identify the visual approach to narrating the information. It finds that modern manga has a potential to become an effective medium to narrate the Japanese culture, growth, and its technological advances that have gained global recognition.

Abstract

The research was conducted to explain a potential link between antisocial behavior and how children made sense of television program, Anak Jalanan. A survey was conducted on 248 children from 10-12 years old in Semarang with a non-random sampling technique. Besides, a correlation technique was used to examine a relationship. The results confirm that perceived reality on the show is related to children’s anti-social behavior. The findings bring about a warning alert to families, communities, and organizations that have concerns about the impact of media on children. They should reunite their efforts to do a more massive movement to make the media content more children-friendly. Parents also need to employ parental mediation at home to reduce the negative impact of such television programs on their children.

Abstract

The article aimed to investigate whether there was a correlation among the language skills and components. The researcher took two language skills and one language component to be part of the research: listening, reading comprehension skills, and grammar mastery. In the research, there were several questions regarding the three variables of listening, reading, and grammar which were focusing on the correlation among the variables. The independent variable was grammar mastery (X) while the independent variables were listening comprehension (Y1) and reading comprehension (Y2). The data collection was taken from the population of Grade X Budi Luhur Senior High School students, Tangerang, with 40 students served as a sample. The research was conducted using the quantitative method with the help of statistical calculation of Pearson Product Moment Correlation to prove whether there was a significant correlation among the three variables. As a result, it is proven that there is no significant correlation between grammar mastery and both listening and reading skills while there is a quite strong correlation between listening and reading skills of the students.

Abstract

The article was intended to investigate various benefits of Whatsapp Messenger application for an effective intenal communication in PT Euro Management Indonesia. In addition, this research also aimed to map the organizational internal communication pattern through the use of Whatsapp Messenger application. The research used theories of organizaional communication, new media communication pattern, and computer mediated communication (CMC). Moreover, paradigm used in the research was constructivist with qualitative approach and the research method was case study. The research result finds that the use of new media Whatsapp Messenger as a tool of communication can build effective internal communication in PT Euro Management Indonesia. Moreover, it also shows that the internal organizational communication pattern in PT Euro Management Indonesia used in Whatsapp Messenger application is conversation pattern.

Abstract

This research would compare optimal configurations of Folding Wall-BIPV to flat wall-BIPV (as base case model). Experiment with simulation as it tools was used as a method to get the optimal configuration of Folding Wall-BIPV. Related to second strategy towards LCB (Low Carbon Building), this research calculated how much electricity energy was produced by renewable energy resource (created by the integrated configuration of folding wall-BIPV) could substitute electricity energy produced from fossil fuel and how much was the uniformity ratio generated from both side of Folding Wall-BIPV. This research used the experimental methods. The data was collected from Badan Meteorologi dan Geofisika Surabaya and then hold the pretest, treatment, and post-test condition for its methods. The result shows that integrated configuration of folding wall-BIPV match to the second strategies adopted by LCB. It is about switching to renewable energy sources to substitute fossil fuel energy sources.

Abstract

Phenomena of citizen journalism had accepted and become part of cyber media. Cyber media owned and managed by press companies had featured citizen journalists’ information, critics, opinions, and news. Citizen journalism was part of freedom of expression. However, in Indonesia’s press law concept, it was not part of the national press. This created legal issues regarding protection and legal responsibility aspects for both parties. A qualitative research was conducting to solving these issues. Using secondary data from literature study and observation on several cyber media websites, this discovers two conclusions. First, the citizen journalist is part of freedom of the press; it means that a citizen journalist’s creation has protected form censor and bans. However, a citizen journalist still has a limitation which shall be complied videlicet Civil Code and Law No. 11 The year 2008 concerning Information and Electronic Transaction. Violation of both regulations means that a citizen journalist shall be legally responsible. Second, protection and responsibility border between a citizen journalist and press company are based on an agreement. Approval of term and condition of general user content in a website from a citizen journalist means that both parties have agreed to enter into an agreement. A press company might be freed of its legal responsibility as long as conducted its obligation to control and manage contents that have been uploaded and published by a citizen journalist. If the company does not take proportional action against citizen journalist’ contents that violating the law, the press company shall be requested its civil or criminal legal responsibility.

Abstract

On this research, the author focused on the scope of Punakawan face painting that expected to become a starting point from the first step in making the visual standardization proposals, which the visual variety of face painting Punakawan was not consistent yet. The research objective was to become one of the methods to re-popularizing by building a visual consistency in Punakawan face painting so that it became more modern and simple without losing the original characteristics of it. The method was performed in the visual design, from visual references research, visual analysis and matching with the characteristics of each character in Punakawan, visual sketching, and computerization process, up to become final visual artwork. The benefits of the research were to be a next visual research comparison, as well as a contribution in the form of visual work; face painting Wayang Punakawan in the further development of the creative economy entered a new era. This research finds that visually, it is the necessary continuation of the design, such as attribute, proportion, gestures, and other visual elements in Punakawan face painting and it is good for Punakawan studies and other Indonesian wayang figures.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to analyze personal branding development from personal brand identity, personal brand positioning, and personal brand assessment. The object of this research was Diana Rikasari's blog “Hot Chocolate and Mint”. She is one of prominent influence and fashion blogger from Indonesia. The research used the qualitative method with data collection by virtual observation from June until August 2016. Rikasari’s personal branding showed on her blog was the fashionably smart woman who had entrepreneurship competence. This research finds out that Diana Rikasari success to make her personal identity by her blog profile and blog posting. Her positioning is clear as Indonesian modern woman. The personal brand assessment can be seen through the achievements and feedbacks on her blog post, both positive or negative.
