Abstract

This article contained research about the analysis of the text of Bahasa Indonesia speech with the Systemic Functional Linguistic approach (LFS). The aim of this article was identifying elements of forming noun phrases as the participants which represented processes in clauses, functions, as well as the distribution of its position in the clause. The research method used was qualitative research with the method of data analysis in the form of 60 clauses through the approach of LFS. The 60 clauses data were taken from the text of the speech of UNJ Rector, which was then analyzed into 100 phrases in the noun. According to the LFS method, it finds that the noun phrase is formed by elements of the noun classes. From the 100 noun phrases analyzed, there are 100 nouns that have different functions in each process. There are 86 nouns represent the material process, 5 nouns represent the relational process, 4 nouns represent the verbal process, 3 nouns represent mental processes, and 2 nouns represent the existential process. The study also finds that in the form of the lexicon, the same noun with the different distribution of its position will result in different functions in the representation process.

Abstract

Talking about football, we could not separate it from the supremacy of masculinity that was created and rooted powerfully by men. It seemed that football was a sport that could be done merely by men and for men. That perspective became one of the most fundamental reasons why football was destined for men. However, there were a lot of women interested in football and becoming the supporter of the football team. Practically, these women supporters had their own labeling as supporters. It indicated that there was a role of women in football, either as a player or supporter. This study discussed the gender construction as a woman by means of the labeling itself. The qualitative-descriptive method was employed to investigate the women gender construction as ‘Maung Geulis’ in Indonesian football teams’ territory. The result shows how the manifestation of the women supporters in football can gain the motivation of morality to the football players in the field. Moreover, there is a desire of the women to show the gender equality through the labeling of ‘Maung Geulis’ as the women supporters. Either ‘Maung Geulis’ or other women supporters are attempted to locate the role of women in men’s domain. The potential of women as ‘Maung Geulis’ to be equal with men supporters is buried by the different labeling. The issue gives a distance of equality by using the political labeling becomes contra productive in the effort to construct the gender equality.

Abstract

Legal language must follow the laws of language (grammar) that widely known and commonly used by the public, including groups of the scientist. Legal language on the other hand also recognizes specific terminologies. These terminologies were introduced by jurists or by legislative power holders. Accordingly, legal language became the product of legal doctrines or political decisions. The problems arose when a number of compositions and legal terms turned out to be elusive, convoluted, and ambiguous due to the pattern of writing that was once done and because of certain considerations. This article proposed reviewing the factors that result in problems. The author presented a solution to observe using hermeneutic methods of law and legal reasoning. The author argued that the text of the law was not neutral since it was trapped not only by the laws of language but also by the perspective of the interpreters as they believed such a perspective was based on the guidance of legal science. By using legal hermeneutics can be checked the depth of the meaning of the law; while over the legal reasoning can be seen its rationale according to legal science.

Abstract

The goal of this research was to know how the folktale Keong Mas was narrated based on Vladimir Propp’s Narratology (1968). Then the evidence in the story was compared to the historical evidence happening during the reign of the two dynasties in the Kediri Kingdom in the eleventh century using the theory of New Historicism. This research used a qualitative method which was based on library research. Furthermore, the research is to know that the work of literature is not always independent. It can be traced through the historical evidence in the folktale which becomes their clues. It is to inform the readers that a work of literature is actually the imitation, that is the reflection of the society.

Abstract

The long-term goal of this research was to make variety ornament documentation on architecture and the interior of Indonesian historical buildings, especially for buildings having the combination between western and eastern. The original plan of this research was to achieve some cultural preservation efforts, they were (1) to find various styles of design art, including the variety of native straits-born Chinese ornaments, Art Deco, and Neoclassical, or found that there are any acculturations among the ornaments in an interior. (2) To understand characteristics of each style and applied it appropriately in the interior space. (3) To find on how the building functioned and how to preserve as cultural heritage. The method began with a survey, interviews, and observations by documenting the application of Indonesia art and culture for cultural conservation, especially on interior design. The case study was straits-born Chinese buildings in Lasem, Central Java. The observation and research concerned with design styles applied in architecture, interior, and home decoration. The observation and research were followed by summarizing and analyzing the material obtained from field surveys result by comparing two samples of Chinese houses in Lasem that also supported with literature research. Researchers find several differences of art styles which had been applied. The styles are original Chinese decorations, Art Deco, and Neoclassical decorations.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to see the political aspects in the success of educational leader using qualitative case study method. Leaders must realize their roles as a CEO, as an academician, and as a political leader. The research problem was why did the educational leaders had difficulty to take their role as political leaders and how to inspire them doing the role? The research applied a qualitative method by using “how” and “why” questions for analysis. There were some complicated issues in educational activities that were difficult to be solved but became easier if educational leaders have skills in persuading, negotiating, and using political process. The significant of the study was to inspire the educational leaders that they did not only take their role as the CEO, or the academician, but also the role as political leaders to be more successful in leading. Vocational and Training institutions in Indonesia face some challenges to be successful in ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) era. The leaders of the institutions will be more successful if they understand the political roles, political process, and political techniques.

Abstract

This study talked the high power distance level between teachers and students in Indonesian society, especially in public schools. Creating two-way communication in intercultural communication that had high power distance will be a big challenge for teachers. This study used the qualitative method and the case study in of SDN Babakan 02, Setu, South Tangerang. It would see how the teacher's efforts in reducing the power distance that was in the learning process when the implementation of Curriculum 2013. Using in-depth interview and observation technique, all data needed was collected. In the end, this research has captured that teachers still need to know more about the Curriculum 2013. To share power distance as part of the curriculum is still difficult since the teachers do not have same understanding and perspective about K13.

Abstract

This study aimed to expose the Indonesian online learners’ learning strategies used in MOOC and investigated the relationship between the learning strategies and learner-instructor interaction in MOOC. The method employed was quantitative research and used the correlational study. The data for this study were collected from 500 Indonesian online learners (359 females and 141 males) who enrolled in Sekolah TOEFL, one of the MOOCs in Indonesia. This study used translated and modified version of Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ), students’ experience in e-learning questionnaire, and learner-instructor interaction in the online course. The three questionnaires were distributed through an electronic survey site, Google FormTM. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson Product Moment Formula to correlate both learning strategies and learner-instructor interaction. The findings enrich our understanding of learners’ learning strategies that are used in MOOC and reveal the relation of the learning strategies and learner-instructor interaction in MOOC.

Abstract

This research was intended to see the prospect of whether the significance of cosplay subculture had given certain influence towards these colorful communities. The target population was Bina Nusantara University students who were either in Japanese Department or those who were interested in Japanese culture. By utilizing the online questionnaire, this research used qualitative random sampling approach and expected to be used as a reference in designing the future curriculum since it was quite applicable and relevant to the condition in Indonesia. Based on the findings, cosplaying has been proven to be a beneficial activity that may help and motivate the learners to understand Japanese language and culture. Finally, the researchers suggest building Japanese language curricula based on the cosplaying activity that may be implemented soon to attract Japanese enthusiasts.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to eliminate misconceptions and increase the level of students’ comprehension on Civic Education subject cultural diversity in Indonesia matters. The research applied a quasi-experimental method. The respondents were 25 students of SDN Muhammadiyah 1 Banyuajuh, Malang. Data were analyzed descriptively qualitative and quantitative. The results show valid learning materials, activity on student-centered, teaching and learning materialized well (3,9). The result of students’ concept comprehension has been analyzed by N-Gain that shows improvement (0,75), and students’ misconception is decreasing. It can be said that the Cooperative Scripts learning materials are feasible, has influence, and can enhance the concept comprehension and significantly affect the elimination of students’ misconception on Civic Education subject in Elementary school students.
