Abstract

In this paper, a deployment mechanism is designed to distribute heterogeneous nodes to optimally cover the pipeline where the mechanism helps locate each node on the wall of the oil pipeline where the number of nodes can be increased depending on this mechanism. The six-layer network hierarchy includes basic sensor nodes (BSN), aggregation relay node (ARN) that added to the network hierarchy, data relay nodes (DRN), data dissemination node (DDN), base station (sinks), and network control center (NCC). This network relies on the improved smart redirect or jump algorithm (SRJ) by sending packets depend on the active relay nodes in both directions that are within the transmission range of the ARNs instead of relying on the number of hops adopted by the SRJ algorithm to reduce the network delay, the energy consumed in relay nodes, and the number of times the DRNs increased transmission range. The OMNeT++ and MATLAB programs were used to implement the simulation scenario. The results showed superiority in terms of the average overhead communication, energy consumption, and end to the end delay with network delay in some cases rely on the number of active relay nodes.

Abstract

Research on the integration of renewable distributed generators (RDGs) in radial distribution systems (RDS) is increased to satisfy the growing load demand, reducing power losses, enhancing voltage profile, and voltage stability index (VSI) of distribution network. This paper presents the application of a new algorithm called ‘coyote optimization algorithm (COA)’ to obtain the optimal location and size of RDGs in RDS at different power factors. The objectives are minimization of power losses, enhancement of voltage stability index, and reduction total operation cost. A detailed performance analysis is implemented on IEEE 33 bus and IEEE 69 bus to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. The results are found to be in a very good agreement.

Abstract

Advancement of the prediction models used in a variety of fields is a result of the contribution of machine learning approaches. Utilizing such modeling in feature engineering is exceptionally imperative and required. In this research, we show how to utilize machine learning to save time in research experiments, where we save more than five thousand hours of measuring the energy consumption of encoding recordings. Since measuring the energy consumption has got to be done by humans and since we require more than eleven thousand experiments to cover all the combinations of video sequences, video bit_rate, and video encoding settings, we utilize machine learning to model the energy consumption utilizing linear regression. VP8 codec has been offered by Google as an open video encoder in an effort to replace the popular MPEG-4 Part 10, known as H.264/AVC video encoder standard. This research model energy consumption and describes the major differences between H.264/AVC and VP8 encoders in terms of energy consumption and performance through experiments that are based on machine learning modeling. Twenty-nine raw video sequences are used, offering a wide range of resolutions and contents, with the frame sizes ranging from QCIF(176x144) to 2160p(3840x2160). For fairness in comparison analysis, we use seven settings in VP8 encoder and fifteen types of tuning in H.264/AVC. The settings cover various video qualities. The performance metrics include video qualities, encoding time, and encoding energy consumption.

Abstract

In the scientific studies of the electric machines, cylindrical and Cartesian laminated models have long proved their operability when it is necessary to transform the general solutions of the partial differential equations into four-terminal network equations and to create the cascade equivalent circuits of the electric machines. In the case of the salient-pole machines, piecewise continuous Sturm-Liouville eigenfunctions are usually used as the general solution. Unfortunately, we cannot create the cascade equivalent circuit of the salient-pole electric machine when (to ensure both the uniqueness and the accuracy of the solution) the field is modeled with many piecewise continuous Sturm-Liouville eigenfunctions (in the zone of poles) and many sinusoidal functions (in the air gap). Nevertheless, the author developed the approximate method for modeling the magnetic field of the salient-pole electric machines when only one piecewise continuous Sturm-Liouville eigenfunction is used and many sinusoidal functions. In this case, it becomes possible to transform the general solution of the partial differential equation into four-terminal network equations and to create the cascade equivalent circuit of the salient-pole electric machine. In this paper, the cascade equivalent A-H-circuit of the synchronous salient-pole machine is considered (without using piecewise continuous Sturm-Liouville eigenfunctions but also without properties averaging).

Abstract

Many systems like the control systems and in communication systems, there is usually a demand for matrix inversion solution. This solution requires many operations, which makes it not possible or very hard to meet the needs for real-time constraints. Methods were exists to solve this kind of problems, one of these methods by using the LU decomposition of matrix which is a good alternative to matrix inversion. The LU matrices are two matrices, the L matrix, which is a lower triangular matrix, and the U matrix, which is an upper triangular matrix. In this paper, a design of dual-core processor is used as the hardware of the work and certain software was written to enable the two cores of the dual-core processor to work simultaneously in computing the value of the L matrix and U matrix. The result of this work are compared with other works that using single-core processor, and the results found that the time required in the cores of the dual-core is more less than using single-core. The designed dual-core processor is invoked using the VHDL language.

Abstract

Cloud computing is a paradigm that uses utility-driven models in providing dynamic services to clients at all levels. Performance analysis and modelling is essential because of service level agreement guarantees. Studies on performance analysis and modelling are increasing in a productive manner on the cloud landscape on issues like virtual machines and data storage. The objective of this study is to conduct a systematic mapping study of performance analysis and modelling of cloud systems and applications. A systematic mapping study is useful in visualization and summarizing the research carried in an area of interest. The systematic study provided an overview of studies on this subject by using a structure, based on categorization. The results are presented in terms of research such as evaluation and solution, and contribution such as tools and method utilized. The results showed that there were more discussions on optimization in relation to tool, method and process with 6.42%, 14.29% and 7.62% respectively. In addition, analysis based on designs in terms of model had 14.29% and publication relating to optimization in terms of evaluation research had 9.77%, validation 7.52%, experience 3.01%, and solution 10.51%. Research gaps were identified and should motivate researchers in pursuing further research directions

Abstract

his research aimed to develop an information system supporting research on rubber (ISSR) in Thailand. This system was designed as a web application with responsive web design. The rubber database was developed with MySQL, used Apache Server as a Web Server and programed with PHP-script. High Chart, Google Chart API and Java Technology were used to represent an online information with graphical format. The system was tested with the actual data on rubber research in Southern Thailand. The system has been available online at URL http://www.s-cm.site/issr. There are three type of users: administrator, researcher (member) and generic user. The researcher performed data entry about research with log-in to the system using username and password provided by the automatic system via online registration form. The administrator can manage the research information. The researchers can manage their research information, use searching tool and leave comments on other member’s research. The generic users can access the system without username and password to view the research and general information on rubber. Moreover, the system generates a report on rubber research with online graphical format. In conclusion, this information system enhances investigation on rubber research in Thailand and its strategy planning for rubber plantation in the future.

Abstract

This study shows how to calculate the minimum load that needs to be reduced to restore the frequency to the specified threshold. To implement this problem, the actual operation of the electricity system in the event of a generator outage is considered. The main idea of this method is to use the power balance equation between the generation and the load with different frequency levels. In all cases of operating the electrical system before and after the generator outage, the reserve capacity of other generators is considered in each generator outage situation. The reduced load capacity is calculated based on the reciprocal phase angle sensitivity or phase distance. This makes the voltage phase angle and voltage value quality of recovery nodes better. The standard IEEE 9-generator 37-bus test scheme was simulated to show the result of the proposed technique.

Abstract

A novel optical rectenna design is presented in this paper to operate in S-band communication. We propose a new method of combining antennas and solar cells to collect and transmit optical and radio frequency signals respectively. In this work, we determined the electrical power collected, it can be used for the polarization of a diode or a low-noise amplifier in a receiver block thus simulation results provides a gain of 6.74 dBi at 2.9 GHz with an effective return loss of -33.62 dB and radiated power of 7.08 mW. These good results make it possible to use the antenna particularly in point-to-point communication systems. A three topologies of rectifying circuits are proposed in the present work. The parametric study has been shown that the efficiency RF/DC conversion can reach 66% for an input power of 10 dBm and a load resistance of 3 kΩ.

Abstract

A 5G mm-wave monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) is presented in this paper. It is designed on GaAs substrate and with 0.25 µm-pHEMT technology from UMS foundry and it is based on pHEMT varactors in order to achieve a very small chip size. A 0dBm-output power over the entire tuning range from 27.67 GHz to 28.91 GHz, a phase noise of -96.274 dBc/Hz and -116.24 dBc/Hz at 1 and 10 MHz offset frequency from the carrier respectively are obtained on simulation. A power consumption of 111 mW is obtained for a chip size of 0.268 mm2. According to our knowledge, this circuit occupies the smallest surface area compared to pHEMTs oscillators published in the literature.
