Good condition and size of the insulator are important to ensure the excellent electric field and current density performance because of aging and degradation HVDC cable problem. At present, the existing insulator which is XLPE insulator that had been used does not meet the capabilities criteria of HVDC cable due to the problem in terms of the condition of the insulator which is the presence of a void in the insulator. A research had been made with Quickfield Software to calculate the electric field and current density in the XLPE insulator of HVDC cable. A void is created in the XLPE insulator by using Quickfield Software by varying diameter of void and distance of void from conductor. XLPE insulator is taken as main research object. The results show that largest diameter of void and nearest distance of void from conductor distorts highest electric field and lowest current density. Therefore, it is important to study both electric field and current density to ensure good capabilities and safety of HVDC cable.

Explicit Semantic Analysis (ESA) is an approach to measure the semantic relatedness between terms or documents based on similarities to documents of a references corpus usually Wikipedia. ESA usage has received tremendous attention in the field of natural language processing NLP and information retrieval. However, ESA utilizes a huge Wikipedia index matrix in its interpretation by multiplying a large matrix by a term vector to produce a high-dimensional vector. Consequently, the ESA process is too expensive in interpretation and similarity steps. Therefore, the efficiency of ESA will slow down because we lose a lot of time in unnecessary operations. This paper propose enhancements to ESA called optimize-ESA that reduce the dimension at the interpretation stage by computing the semantic similarity in a specific domain. The experimental results show clearly that our method correlates much better with human judgement than the full version ESA approach.

Event detection has an important role in detecting the switching of the state of the appliance in the residential environment. This paper proposed a robust smoothing method for cepstrum estimation using double smoothing i.e. the cepstrum smoothing and local linear regression method. The main problem is to reduce the variance of the home appliance peak signal. In the first step, the cepstrum smoothing method removed the unnecessary quefrency by applying a rectangular window to the cepstrum of the current signal. In the next step, the local regression smoothing weighted data points to be smoothed using robust least squares regression. The result of this research shows the variance of the peak signal is decreased and has a good performance with better accuracy. In noise enviromment, performance prediction quite good with values greater than 0.6 and relatively stable at values above 0.9 on SNR> 25 for single appliances. Furthermore, in multiple appliances, performance prediction quite good at SNR> 20 and begins to decrease in SNR <20 and SNR> 25.

Radio-frequency identification (RFID) is a technology that uses radio waves to transfer data from an electronic tag, called RFID tag or label, attached to an object, through a reader for the purpose of identifying and tracking the object. RFID technology is a matured technology that has been widely deployed by various organizations as a part of their automation systems. In this project, an RFID based system has been built in order to produce an attendance management system. An automated attendance management software will not only make the entire process simple, but will also provide a well-structured and analyzed report of the pattern of student attendance and time management, which can further help in allocating and using the human resources in an organization to the maximum possible benefit. This system consists of two main parts which include: the hardware and the software. The hardware consists of a motor unit and RFID reader. The RFID reader, which is a low-frequency reader (125 kHz), is connected to the host computer via a serial to USB converter cable. The Time-Attendance System GUI is developed using Visual Basic.Net. The Attendance Management System provides the functionalities of the overall system such as displaying live ID tags transactions, registering ID, deleting ID, recording attendance and other minor functions. This interface was installed in the host computer.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v3i6.3961

In this paper, state adaptive backstepping and Lyapunov-like function methods are used to design a robust adaptive controller for a DC motor. The output to be controlled is the motor speed. It is assumed that the load torque and inertia moment exhibit unknown but bounded time-varying behavior, and that the measurement of the motor speed and motor current are corrupted by noise. The controller is implemented in a Rapid Control Prototyping system based on Digital Signal Processing for dSPACE platform and experimental results agree with theory.

In this paper, we present a mathematical analysis on the performance and behavior of uniformly distributed and non-uniformly distributed backoff timer based on binomial algorithm by using two standards which is the conventional DSRC and the latest Wi-Fi Direct. DSRC is a well-known technology being considered as the most promising wireless standard in VANET. On the other hand, as the latest wireless networking standard, the potential of Wi-Fi Direct technology should be concerned. We evaluates these standards using uniform and binomial distribution for contention window under mathematical modelling in order to analyze the average throughput and collision probability performance. The results show that binomial distribution in Wi-Fi Direct standard is 7.05% and 97.13% better than uniform distribution, in terms of average throughput and collision probability, respectively. Thus we can defer that Wi-Fi Direct is feasible to be used as an alternative standard since it has been considered as potential competitor of DSRC in VANET.

In IoT researches are found millions of devices are connected in global digital infrastructure framed in network fashion. Most of the things on the network use cloud or central database to share their data and control signals to control and manage the devices on the IoT network. Devices on the network need fast traversing paths, to take correct decision in right time. The data synchronization between source and destination is very important in real time parameter maintenance. The multidimensional parametric evaluation of the environment or the surrounding area is facing problems with data synchronization and congestion in the sensor network. This will lead arrival of fault data at the destination. The fault data also leads a misconception at user end. In the present work pipeline integration is proposed to overcome the misconception and synchronization failures. The pipeline and Arduino UNO processor are integrated on Proteus simulation tool. Transducer nodes and the functionalities are analysed with pipeline.

Energy efficiency is the most critical challenge in wireless sensor network. The transmission energy is the most consuming task in sensor nodes, specifically in large distances. Clustered routing techniques are efficient approaches used to lower the transmission energy and maximize the network’s lifetime. In this paper, a hybrid clustered routing approach is proposed for energy optimization in WSN. This approach is based on K-Means clustering algorithm and LEACH protocol. The simulation results using MATLAB tool have shown that the proposed hybrid approach outperforms LEACH protocol and optimizes the nodes energy and the network lifetime.

The Internet of things (IoT) is a major source for technology solutions in many industries. The IoT can consider, Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) as the backbone network to reduce formation or advent of new technology. Integration of these would reduce the burden and form smart sensor node network with nodes given access to internet. WSN is already a major legacy system that has percolated into many industries. Thus by integration of IoT and WSN no huge paradigm shift is needed for the industries.

The development of renewable energy contributes to the global objectives of reducing our greenhouse gas emissions, obtaining and increasing our energy efficiency. In the face of these changes, the electric-network must adapt, while maintaining a high level of reliability and a quality of energy production. To meet this objective, it is recommended to use highly developed electrical network by integrating renewable energy sources in order to adapt the energy consumption to their production, using electro-technical software information and telecommunications technologies. We are talking about intelligent grids (Smart Grid). The main objective of the work presented in this paper is the contribution to the study of intelligent network for efficient management of energy produced by several sources linked to the AC bus via the voltage inverters. Numerical simulations have been presented to validate the performance of the proposed active and reactive power controller (Droop Control).
