Abstract

This work proposes the design of shunt hybrid filter using instantaneous power theory to improve the power quality and simulation has been carried out for 3 phase distribution system feeding different types of non linear loads. The proposed filter consists of parallel combination of 5th and 7th tuned selective harmonic elimination passive filters, which is connected in series with a small rating IGBTs based voltage source inverter. In this work, principle of compensation and filtering behavior of the system has been discussed in detail. Instantaneous real and reactive power theory based controller has been designed to estimate the reference current from the distorted current. In order to reduce the harmonics, generated reference currents are tracked by voltage source inverter using hysteresis band current controller. The performance of the hybrid scheme is evaluated for various nonlinear loads using Matlab/ Simulink tool. The detailed analysis has been carried out on harmonics reduction and DC bus voltage regulation and the simulation result ensures the feasibility of suggested control strategy. The proposed topology improves the filtering performance of the passive filter in hybrid scheme.

Abstract

Microwave imaging is an emerging technology in the medical application which have similar functions as X-ray, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), and Computed Tomography scan (CT scan). In designing a microwave imaging system for medical application, it can use a monostatic radar approach by transmitting a Gaussian pulse (with an ultra-wideband (UWB) frequency). In this system, eight antennas are required with the support of RF switches. Thus, it is important to get the best performance of UWB RF switch in this application. Therefore, this paper presents the performance analysis of four different RF switch topologies (Design 1, 2, 3 and 4) using discrete PIN diode in SC-79 package. The design was based on single pole double throw (SPDT) switch. As result, Design 2 is the best topology after considering the tradeoff between isolation and return loss performances. Based on the three cascaded SPDT switches of Design 2, the insertion loss was less than -2 dB and return loss was more than -10 dB. Meanwhile, the isolation bandwidth (at the minimum isolation of -20 dB) was from 0.5 to 3.7 GHz (with 3.2 GHz bandwidth), hence, it could be used in the UWB frequency for medical application of microwave imaging.

Abstract

Mixed traffic systems are dynamically complex since there are many parameters and variables that influence the interactions between the different kinds of vehicles. Modeling the behavior of vehicles, especially motorcycle which has erratic behavior is still being developed continuously, especially in developing countries which have heterogeneous traffic. To get a better understanding of motorcycle behavior, one can look at maneuvers performed by drivers. In this research, we tried to build a model of motorcycle movement which only focused on maneuver action to avoid the obstacle along with the trajectories using a Markov Chain approach. In Markov Chain, the maneuver of motorcycle will described by state transition. The state transition model is depend on probability function which will use for determine what action will be executed next. The maneuver of motorcycle using Markov Chain model was validated by comparing the analytical result with the naturalistic data, with similarity is calculated using MSE. In order to know how good our proposed method can describe the maneuver of motorcycle, we try to compare the MSE of the trajectory based on Markov Chain model with those using polynomial approach. The MSE results showed the performance of Markov Chain Model give the smallest MSE which 0.7666 about 0.24 better than 4th order polynomial.

Abstract

Authorship attribution (AA) is a subfield of linguistics analysis, aiming to identify the original author among a set of candidate authors. Several research papers were published and several methods and models were developed for many languages. However, the number of related works for Arabic is limited. Moreover, investigating the impact of short words length and training set size is not well addressed. To the best of our knowledge, no published works or researches, in this direction or even in other languages, are available. Therefore, we propose to investigate this effect, taking into account different stylomatric combination. The Mahalanobis distance (MD), Linear Regression (LR), and Multilayer Perceptron (MP) are selected as AA classifiers. During the experiment, the training dataset size is increased and the accuracy of the classifiers is recorded. The results are quite interesting and show different classifiers behaviours. Combining word-based stylomatric features with n-grams provides the best accuracy reached in average 93%.

Abstract

The article presents a miniature antenna with a simple geometry and a simple approach for reconfiguration. In order to make the T-shaped antenna frequency reconfigurable, we integrated Switches in specific positions. The location of the switches is determined following a study of the distribution of the surface currents of the suggested antenna. Indeed, we found that the insertion of switches in places where the concentrations of surface currents are high is irrelevant. In fact, to redirect current flow, the PIN diodes or RF Switch must be placed in positions where the distribution of the surface currents is of low concentration. These locations facilitate the establishment of new trajectories of the flux of current. As a result, a miniature tunable antenna dimension 20mm*20mm*1.6mm printed on FR4 substrate with 4.4 permittivity and with  0.04 loss tangent,   the antenna  can be adopted in many communication devices in view of its small size, its low manufacturing cost and performance on frequency sweep, the antenna operates in S-Band with an acceptable band and gain. The antenna is simulated and optimized using CST Microwave Studio.

Abstract

The estimation of the fundamental matrix (F) is to determine the epipolar geometry and to establish a geometrical relation between two images of the same scene or elaborate video frames. In the literature, we find many techniques that have been proposed for robust estimations such as RANSAC (random sample consensus), least-squares median (LMeds), and M estimators as exhaustive. This article presents a comparison between the different detectors that are (Harris, FAST, SIFT, and SURF) in terms of detected points number, the number of correct matches and the computation speed of the ‘F’. Our method based first on the extraction of descriptors by the algorithm (SURF) was used in comparison to the other one because of its robustness, then set the threshold of uniqueness to obtain the best points and also normalize these points and rank it according to the weighting function of the different regions at the end of the estimation of the matrix''F'' by the technique of the M-estimator at eight points, to calculate the average error and the speed of the calculation ''F''. The results of the experimental simulation were applied to the real images with different changes of viewpoints, for example (rotation, lighting, and moving object), give a good agreement in terms of the counting speed of the fundamental matrix and the acceptable average error. The results of the simulation show this technique of use in real-time applications

Abstract

Ad hoc network is specifically designed for the establishment of a network anywhere and anytime, which does not have any fixed infrastructure in order to support the mobility of the users in the network. The network is established without using any access points or base stations for communication implemented in multi hop schemes. Hence we call an Ad hoc network as a collection of nodes which are mobile in nature with a dynamic network infrastructure and forms a temporary network. Because of dynamic topological changes, these networks are vulnerable at the physical link, and they can easily be manipulated. An intruder can easily attack the Ad hoc network by loading the network resources which are available, such as wireless links and energy (battery) levels of other users, and then starts disturbing all the users. This paper provides a comparative survey on the various existing intrusion detection systems for Ad hoc networks based on the various approaches applied in the intrusion detection systems for providing security to the Ad hoc network.

Abstract

A physically asymmetric reflectarray element has been proposed for wide band operations. The dual resonant response has been introduced by tilting one side of the square path element. The numerical results have been analyzed in the frequency band between 24GHz to 28GHz where a reflection phase range of more than 600° has been achieved. The proposed asymmetric element can produce mutual coupling with adjacent elements on a reflectarray. This effect has been monitored by placing the elements in a mirror configuration on the surface of reflectarray. The single unit cell element results have been compared with conventional 4 element unit cell and proposed mirroring element configuration. The proposed mirroring element technique can be used to design a broadband reflectarray for high gain applications.

Abstract

The main objective of this research work is to analysis the voltage stability of the power system network and its improvement in the network.voltage stability of a power system. A system enters a state of voltage instability when a disturbance, increase in load demand, or change in system condition causes a progressive and an uncontrollable drop in voltage or voltage collapse. The continuing increase in demand for electric power has resulted in an increasingly complex, interconnected system, forced to operate closer to the limits of the stability. This has necessitated the implementation of techniques for analyzing and detecting voltage collapse in bus bar or lines prior to its occurrence. Simple Newton Raphson algorithm based voltage stability analysis has been carried out. Matlab based simulations for all the factors that causes voltage instability has been implemented and analyzed for an IEEE 30 bus system. The proposed model is able to identify the behavior of the power systems, network under various voltage stability conditions and its possibility of recovery/stability improvement of the power system network has been discussed.
