Abstract

Various face recognition methods are derived using local features among them the Local Binary Pattern (LBP) approach is very famous. The histogram techniques based on LBP is a complex task. Later Uniform Local Binary Pattern (ULBP) is derived on LBP, based on the bitwise transitions and ULBP’s are treated as the fundamental property of texture. The ULBP approach treated all Non-Uniform Local Binary Patterns’ (NULBP) into one miscellaneous label. Recently we have derived Prominent LBP (PLBP), Maximum PLBP (MPLBP) and Smallest PLBP (SPLBP). The PLBP consists of the majority of the ULBP’s and some of the NULBP’s. The basic disadvantage of these various variants of LBP’s  is they are basically local approaches and completely failed in representing features derived from large regions or macrostructures, which are very much essential for faces. This paper derives PLBP’s on the large region. The rectangular region of this paper is assumed with a size of multiples of three and PLBPs are evaluated on dividing each region into multiple regions. The proposed Multi Region-PLBP (MR-PLBP) approach is tested on three facial databases namely Yale, Indian and AT&T ORL. The experimental results show the proposed approach significantly outperforms the other LBP based face recognition methods.

Abstract

Biomedical signal processing provides a cross-disciplinary international forum through which research on signal and images measurement and analysis in clinical medicine as well as biological sciences is shared. Electrocardiography (ECG) signal is more frequently used for diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases. However, the ECG signals contain sensitive private health information as well as details that serve to individually distinguish patients. For this reason, the information must be encrypted prior to transmission across public media so as to prevent unauthorized access by adversaries. In this paper, the proposed the use of the Advanced Encryption Standard algorithm (AES), which is one of a symmetric key block cipher with lightweight properties for enhances confidentiality, integrity and authentication in ECG signal transmission. However, some of the challenges arising from the use of this algorithm are computational overhead and level of security, which occur when handling more complex. The AES algorithm has different operation modes using three different key sizes which can be utilized in encrypting the whole sample of ECG biomedical signal in electronic healthcare. The experiments in this research, exhibit comparative study of using five modes of operation in AES algorithm, which are coupled with three key sizes based on the execution time and security level for the encryption of ECG biomedical signals in electronic healthcare application. Thus, we reported that the CBC mode of the AES algorithm is suitable to be applied of security purpose.

Abstract

In order to increase the performance of Aditya tokamak, it is necessary to determine the feedback coil current for positioning the plasma within the magnetic chamber. In this paper, transfer functions are obtained for the plasma position prediction system. Four different feedback controllers are developed to improve the performance of the prediction system. From the analysis, Neural Network controller does not have overshoot while the PID controller has lesser settling time than the other two controllers.

Abstract

Nowadays, traveling has become a routine activity for many people, so that many researchers have developed studies in the tourism domain, especially for the determination of tourist routes. Based on prior work, the problem of determining travel route is analogous to finding the solution for travelling salesman problem (TSP). However, the majority of works only dealt with generating the travel route within one day and also did not take into account several user’s preference criteria. This paper proposes a model for generating a travel route schedule within a few days, and considers some user needs criteria, so that the determination of a travel route can be considered as a multi-criteria issue. The travel route is generated based on several constraints, such as travel time limits per day, opening/closing hours and the average length of visit for each tourist destination. We use simulated annealing method to generate the optimum travel route. Based on evaluation result, the optimality of the travel route generated by the system is not significantly different with ant colony result. However, our model is far more superior in running time compared to Ant Colony method.

Abstract

Software quality is a key for the success in the business of information and technology. Hence, before be marketed, it needs the software quality measurement to fulfill the user requirements.  Some methods of the software quality analysis have been tested in a different perspective, and we have presented the software method in the point of view of users and experts. This study aims to map the method of software quality measurement in any models of quality. Using the method of Systematic Mapping Study, we did a searching and filtering of papers using the inclusion and exclusion criteria. 42 relevant papers have been obtained then. The result of the mapping showed that though the model of ISO SQuaRE has been widely used since the last five years and experienced the dynamics, the researchers in Indonesia still used ISO9126 until the end of 2016.The most commonly used method of the software quality measurement Method is the empirical method, and some researchers have done an AHP and Fuzzy approach in measuring the software quality.

Abstract

The possibility to limit and manipulate photons at nanometer scales attracted a lot of interest for exciting applications from subwavelength in laser, biosensors, biomedical and optoelectronics devices, the sensor optical properties, however; are complex due to two resonances through propagating and localized surface plasmons. The optical properties of surface plasmons (SPs) at the resonant wavelength is depending on the geometrical nanostructure of materials. In this article, we used different geometry of nanoholes array, 4 and 9 nanoholes array in a metallic film gold nanoparticle with different thickness (20,50,100) nm on SiO2 substrate with refractive index 1.46, we designed two different geometries; 4- holes: hole radius r1=200 nm, period p1=600 nm; and 9- holes: r2=100 nm, period p2=300 nm. Transmission and reflection spectrum have been calculated and simulated by FDTD Lumerical program. From results are observed the effect of thickness is interesting, transmission is increased at (t=20nm) for two arrays. Furthermore, the number of hole and its area has an influence on optical transmission and other parameters (E, H, Ref) which are characteristics of design of metallic nanostructure. We can see that there is a peak value of the wavelength at 519 nm approximately to 73% strong light transmission with 4-NHA in the other hand wavelength of 519 nm transmission is 45% with 9-NHA. strong light transmission is hopeful for many applications (biomedical devices, nanoantennas and laser optical fiber).

Abstract

Person authenticaton using faces became one of the most popular security approaches for the last three decades.  From the literature it is found that perofrmance of most of the methods used in recognition was limited due to uncontrolled conditions like illumination and pose variations.  In this work, to address the limitations of uncontrolled environment, Modular two-dimensional Principle Component Analysis (M2D-PCA) is proposed.  In this approach, the input image is partitioned into four equal segments and then Histogram Equalization is applied to reduce illumination impact caused due to varying lightening conditions. Then M2D-PCA algorithm is applied parallel on each segment and then all features extracted from the segments are fused with wieghted summation. Experiments are carried out on bench mark datasets like extended Yale database B, ORL and AR database.   Results of the proposed approach produced good recognition rate with low computational time against various illumination environments.

Abstract

Behavioral study of a system is an important task. It is mostly used in real world environments and became an emergent research area. Various approaches have been proposed since last two decades. In this paper, we have proposed a Variable Step-Size Sign-Sign Wilcoxon Approach, that is robust against outliers in the desired data and also convergence speed is faster than Wilcoxon norm based approach. In initial stage, Sign-Sign Wilcoxon norm based approach has been verified. Next to it, the proposed approach is verified and compared for the application in Linear and Non-linear system identification problems in presence of outliers.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v2i4.837

Abstract

Noise is a problem often found in daily life. Noise also make people could not concentrate to do their work. Efforts to reduce noise have been proposed, but, due to variety of the noise’s characteristics, every noise problem requires different solution. This research aim to cancel  the vehicle’s noise while maintaining the information heard. These conditions happened in the hospitals classrooms, or work room near the roadway. The vehicle’s noise change very fast, so the adaptive system is the good solution candidate for solving this problem. On the beginning, the simulation process had the trouble with the iterations. Matlab software only can execute the certain range of iteration. It could not cancel the noise, even the information becomes criptic. The problem is how to cancell the vehicle’s noise with the restriction software and still manage the important information. This research will modify the LMS adaptive algorithm so that the iteration could be done by the system and the main goal of the research could be reached. The modification of the algorithm is based on the filter length (L) used to adapt with the noise. Therefore, this research conducted simulation of the Adaptive Noise Cancelling with two process steps. The output of the first adaptive process have the.same characteristics with the noise that would be cancelled, thus the first adaptive process have the error near to zero.  The second adaptive process changes the input by the output of the first process and mix the information into the noise. Error occured in the final process is the information heard as the dominant output.
