Abstract

With the increasing demand for solar energy as a renewable source has brought up new challenges in the field of energy. However, one of the main advantages of photovoltaic (PV) power generation technology is that it can be directly connected to the grid power generation system and meet the demand of increasing energy consumption. Large-scale PV grid-connected power generation system put forward new challenges on the stability and control of the power grid and the grid-tied photovoltaic system with an energy storage system. To overcome these problems, the PV grid-tied system consisted of 8 kW PV array with energy storage system is designed, and in this system, the battery components can be coupled with the power grid by AC or DC mode. In addition, the feasibility and flexibility of the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) charge controller are verified through the dynamic model built in the residential solar PV system. Through the feasibility verification of the model control mode and the strategy control, the grid-connected PV system combined with reserve battery storage can effectively improve the stability of the system and reduce the cost of power generation. To analyze the performance of the grid-tied system, some real-time simulations are performed with the help of the system advisor model (SAM) that ensures the satisfactory working of the designed PV grid-tied System.

Abstract

In this paper, a two-stage 0.18 μm CMOS power amplifier (PA) for ultra-wideband (UWB) 3 to 5 GHz based on common source inductive degeneration with an auxiliary amplifier is proposed. In this proposal, an auxiliary amplifier is used to place the 2nd harmonic in the core amplified in order to make up for the gain progression phenomena at the main amplifier output node. Simulation results show a power gain of 16 dB with a gain flatness of 0.4 dB and an input 1 dB compression of about -5 dBm from 3 to 5 GHz using a 1.8 V power supply consuming 25 mW. Power added efficiency (PAE) of around 47% at 4 GHz with 50 Ω load impedance was also observed.

Abstract

Despite the rapid growth in the market demanding for wireless sensor networks (WSNs), they are far from being secured or efficient. WSNs are vulnerable to malicious attacks and utilize too much power. At the same time, there is a significant increment of the security threats due to the growth of the several applications that employ wireless sensor networks. Therefore, introducing physical layer security is considered to be a promising solution to mitigate the threats. This paper evaluates popular coding techniques like Reed solomon (RS) techniques and scrambled error correcting codes specifically in terms of security gap. The difference between the signal to nose ratio (SNR) of the eavesdropper and the legitimate receiver nodes is defined as the security gap. We investigate the security gap, energy efficiency, and bit error rate between RS and scrambled t-error correcting codes for wireless sensor networks. Lastly, energy efficiency in RS and Bose-Chaudhuri-Hocquenghem (BCH) is also studied. The results of the simulation emphasize that RS technique achieves similar security gap as scrambled error correcting codes. However, the analysis concludes that the computational complexities of the RS is less compared to the scrambled error correcting codes. We also found that BCH code is more energy-efficient than RS.

Abstract

Due to its efficiency in storage and search speed, binary hashing has become an attractive approach for a large audio database search. However, most existing hashing-based methods focus on data-independent scheme where random linear projections or some arithmetic expression are used to construct hash functions. Hence, the binary codes do not preserve the similarity and may degrade the search performance. In this paper, an unsupervised similarity-preserving hashing method for content-based audio retrieval is proposed. Different from data-independent hashing methods, we develop a deep network to learn compact binary codes from multiple hierarchical layers of nonlinear and linear transformations such that the similarity between samples is preserved. The independence and balance properties are included and optimized in the objective function to improve the codes. Experimental results on the Extended Ballroom dataset with 8 genres of 3,000 musical excerpts show that our proposed method significantly outperforms state-of-the-art data-independent method in both effectiveness and efficiency.

Abstract

To secure the transmission lines against power system faults, the distance relays are mostly used. Distance relay has its own Resistance (R)–Reactance (X) characteristics. Co-ordination of different distance relays is necessary for the fast operation of circuit breaker. Various distance relays which are being tripped with respect to circuit breakers which are attached at individual buses faraway from each other. These relays will be operated with respect to the distance between the occurred fault and relay location. In this paper, detection of three zones using relay characteristics, co-ordination of distance relays and circuit breakers are shown with the faults placed at different locations of an IEEE Nine bus system using MATLAB/Simulink GUI environment. A comparison also made between the relays performance and circuit breaker tripping operation with respect to severe faults at different locations on IEEE Nine bus system.

Abstract

Videos are used often for communicating ideas, concepts, experience, and situations, because of the significant advances made in video communication technology. The social media platforms enhanced the video usage expeditiously. At, present, recognition of a video is done, using the metadata like video title, video descriptions, and video thumbnails. There are situations like video searcher requires only a video clip on a specific topic from a long video. This paper proposes a novel methodology for the analysis of video content and using video storytelling and indexing techniques for the retrieval of the intended video clip from a long duration video. Video storytelling technique is used for video content analysis and to produce a description of the video. The video description thus created is used for preparation of an index using wormhole algorithm, guarantying the search of a keyword of definite length L, within the minimum worst-case time. This video index can be used by video searching algorithm to retrieve the relevant part of the video by virtue of the frequency of the word in the keyword search of the video index. Instead of downloading and transferring a whole video, the user can download or transfer the specifically necessary video clip. The network constraints associated with the transfer of videos are considerably addressed.

Abstract

Wireless network technology-based internet of things (IoT) has increased significantly and exciting to study, especially vital sign monitoring (body temperature, heart rate, and blood pressure). Vital sign monitoring is crucial to carry out to strengthen medical diagnoses and the continuity of patient health. Vital sign monitoring conducted by medical personnel to diagnose the patient's health condition is still manual. Medical staff must visit patients in each room, and the equipment used is still cable-based. Vital sign examination like this is certainly not practical because it requires a long time in the process of diagnosis. The proposed vital sign monitoring system design aims to assist medical personnel in diagnosing the patient's illness. Vital sign monitoring system uses HRM-2511E sensor for heart detection, DS18b20 sensor for body temperature detection, and MPX5050DP sensor for blood pressure detection. Vital sign data processing uses a raspberry pi as a data delivery media-based internet of things (IoT). Based on the results of the vital sign data retrieval shows that the tool designed functioning correctly. The accuracy of the proposed device for body temperature is 99.51%, heart rate is 97.90%, and blood pressure is 97.69%.
