Abstract

Indonesian language for non-native speakers is considered difficult because its position as a second language. Therefore, BIPA speaking students ask for certain models and techniques in learning so that BIPA students can master Indonesian properly according to their level. This research is a qualitative descriptive study conducted with the aim to study and describe the application of techniques in learning to speak BIPA Beginner Level (A-1) at IAIN Surakarta. This research was conducted at IAIN Surakarta with 6 successful BIPA learners (A-1). Data collection techniques used were observation, interview, and documentation techniques. The data analysis technique used is interactive analysis, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion conclusions. The results of this study are the application of the game in learning to speak BIPA which is divided into three parts, namely planning, implementation, and evaluation. The application of the game in learning to speak BIPA is carried out effectively, although it is still in implementation.

Abstract

Writing a short story by learners needs to consider formative elements. Therefore, it needs appropriate and suitable learning model for their learning styles. This research aims to analyze the effectiveness of writing short story learning with a quantum model based on learning styles of eleventh graders of senior high school. This pseudo-experimental research used written short story writing test, learning style test, attitude observation, photographs, and interview as techniques of collecting data. Normality test is done by using the Kolmogorov Smirnov test. Homogeneity test of the data used Levense. Hypothesis test used paired sample t-test. All of them were done by using SPSS 20 program. It is concluded that the implementation of the model is effective in learning short story writing based on the learning styles of the students. The learning by using the model is more effective for kinesthetic learning style than visual and auditory learning styles. This research is expected to contribute to developing educational field research and to enrich the knowledge of short story writing in an educational institution.

Abstract

Short story writing skill is needed by students to produce a short story based on their creative imagination. Suitable learning is done by using a creative, productive model based on students? verbal creativities. This research aims to find out the effectiveness of short story writing skill by using a creative-productive model based on eleventh graders of VHS verbal creativities. This quasi-experimental research used the instrument of collecting data such as a test of short story writing, verbal creativity test, behavioral observation, photographs, and interview. Normality tests used Kolmogorov-Smirnov. Homogeneity test used Levense test. Hypothesis test used paired sample t-test. Final data analysis used a t-test to find out the comparison of the learning effectiveness based on verbal creativities. The findings showed an average score of high verbal creativity students was 87.40, moderate 81.05, and the lowest average of 76.6. It proved the learning was effective to be implemented for high verbal creativity students. This research contributes to enrich research development dealing with the educational field and to enrich knowledge in learning writing short story at schools.

Abstract

The title of the Plan becomes a media that describes editorial powers in expressing their opinions. This study aims to analyze the representation of power as reflected in the editorial on terrorism-themed articles in the Pikiran Rakyat General Daily with the article title "Terror Terror." This research is qualitative research using descriptive qualitative study methods. The research data were analyzed using the critical discourse analysis of Teun A van Dijk. The data collection technique used in this study was the skillful listening free technique. The results of this study are in the form of representation of editorial powers in the editorial on the theme of terrorism, namely the editorial alignments of the police and terrorism which are explicitly displayed. The editors positively imaged the police in this editorial. The editors negatively imaged terrorism in this editorial.

Abstract

One form of communication which occurs in the realm of education is in a classroom. In conveying their utterances, teachers not only give information but also have certain intentions. Based on this case, the study aims to analyze the types of utterances of teachers and students who are conservation-minded in their learning interaction at Adiwiyata schools. The research design used was qualitative descriptive. The data was collected by observation method, followed by uninvolved conversation observation technique, recording and taking notes.Furthermore, the data were analyzed using a pragmatic equivalent method with the basic technique to sort the determinants. The results of the study included the utterances types of representative (values of inspiring and honest characters), directive (value of inspiring, humanist, caring and honest characters), expressive (value of innovative and humanist characters), commissive (value of fair character), and declarative (value of inspiring, fair, caring and sportsmanlike characters). The results of this study provide theoretical and practical advantages. Theoretically, this study can find the types of utterances of conservation teachers and students in learning interactions at the Adiwiyata school. The practical advantage of this study is that teachers can use conservation-oriented utterances in conducting their learning interactions

Abstract

The objective of this research is to describe the use of Assertive Speech acts form, which contained in a conversation between call center Telkom wit customers. In the other hand, this research also describes the study of pragmatic into indirect speech conversation. This research is descriptive qualitative research. The data was collected by a recorded method, noted technique, a free and involved technique (SBLC). Analysis contextual technique and analysis heuristic technique is used as the data analysis on this research. The data resource that took is the speech act of call center Telkom with the customers were recorded by phone and live chat, on a piece of speech between call center Telkom with the customers. The subject of this research is the assertive speech acts between call center Telkom with the customers in the study of pragmatic. The results of this research are in the form of assertive speech acts, the function o assertive speech acts, and the cause factor of assertive speech acts used in a conversation between call center Telkom with customers. The assertive speech acts that found in a conversation between call center Telkom with customers are the speech of propose, brag, mention, and report.

Abstract

Suara Merdeka newspaper is a daily that is trusted by the people of Central Java as a source of current information on conditions and policies in Central Java. The author finds variations in the use of cohesion and coherence markers, whose function is as a means of connecting one another to form a link. The objectives of this research are finding and describing the forms of cohesion of the Suara Merdeka newspaper editorial, finding and describing the forms of coherence that are used in the editorial discourse of Suara Merdeka newspaper, describe the function of cohesion and coherence in the editorial discourse on Suara Merdeka newspaper. The data in this research are fragments of the Suara Merdeka daily editorial. The note-taking technique follows the method of data collection by listening. While the data analysis technique used is the basic technique for direct elements and advanced techniques behind the technique. Thus the important findings of this research showed that the lexical cohesion used in the Merdeka Voice Editorial Discourse was repetition, synonymy, antonymy, collocation, and hyponymy. The dominant reps used are Epizeuskis, and Tautote reps, coherence used in the Suara Merdeka daily editorial include causality, causality, causality, comparative relations, time additives, and conclusions. However, what dominates the most is the causal relationship, the function of cohesion and coherence in the Suara Merdeka editorial discourse is to make the reader understand the implied and explicit message of the writer and as a marker for combining sentences and paragraphs. This research is useful to add insight to the development of linguistics related to discourse analysis, especially cohesion and coherence.

Abstract

The Tanjung City Community has distinctive characteristics in terms of language. Cities that are located between two countries, namely Singapore and Malaysia, have a big influence in terms of acting speech in their daily lives. This study aims to describe the form of language attitude, which consists of language, language pride, and awareness of language norms. This study uses a sociolinguistic approach and a qualitative approach. The data of this study is a piece of speech from Tanjungpinang city community in the realm of education in daily communication in the classroom during teaching and learning activities. The observation point, namely Public High School 1 Bintan Timur, Public High School Tanjungpinang 1, and Public High School Tanjungpinang 2. This research produces the following findings. First, the manifestation of language loyalty in the realm of education in-class language loyalty that is realized through fragments of conversation that occur, language pride, and awareness of the existence of norms that are analyzed based on pragmatic rules and diction to produce findings that violate good and correct language rules.

Abstract

Learning evaluation  is an important factors of learning success. The results of monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the 2013 curriculum at the junior high school level in 2014 showed that one of the difficulties of educators in implementing the 2013 curriculum was assessment. The purpose of this study was to analyze the needs of teachers, produce characteristics, produce tools, find out the effectiveness of evaluation tools in composing description text with the taxonomy of Rebecca M. Valette and CLIL approach for grade VII junior high school students. The research method used in this study was the Research and Development research design (research and development) from Borg and Gall. The evaluation tools compiled description texts using Rebecca M. Valette's taxonomy and the CLIL approach were stated to be effective and feasible to assess aspects of the knowledge, attitudes, and skills of Indonesian language learning in seventh grade junior high schools, especially the basic competencies in composing description texts. This is because in this tool has been equipped with the aim of learning Indonesian language which includes aspects of language, culture, and communication in accordance with the 2013 curriculum. It was expected this evaluative instrument could  support  assessment of Indonesian language learning in 2013 curriculum  based on text.

Abstract

Language politeness in learning interaction has important role. Educational utterances violating politeness could influence to learning quality. Therefore, politeness violation of educational utterances could not be let in learning interaction. This research aims to analyze educational utterance politeness violation and its influential factors to educational utterances in learning interaction. The theoretical approach of this research is pragmatic while the methodological approach is analytic description qualitatively. The data was collected by participant observer through observing and extended techniques, such as recording and noting. Then, the data was analyzed qualitative descriptively. The findings showed the violations of politeness in educational utterances covered maxim of feeling, maxim of allowance, maxim of sincerity, maxim of sympathy, and maxim of agreement. Meanwhile, the influential factors of the violation were direct criticism, emotional motivation, and protective argument, subjecting the ilocutors, and intimidating ilocutors. This research expected to enrich research and knowledge dealing with learning interaction.
