Abstract

Indonesian are less aware of the function of folklore in the modern era. When examined more deeply, folklore is a manifestation of local cultural values ​​that are not widely known. This is the background for the research of this article which intends to introduce the uniqueness of the Nusantara folklore through an analysis of the eating of cultural symbols. The purpose of this research is to describe and introduce the meaning of cultural symbols in the Nusantara folklore. The method used is literature using semiotic theory. The results obtained in this study are as follows. 1) Folklore is part of a culture, therefore in the structure of folklore found cultural elements represented in the form of symbols. 2) Cultural symbols in folklore cannot be interpreted directly, with a semiotic and cultural approach symbols can be interpreted according to the cultural origin of the folklore. 3) Literature, culture, and art are three things that cannot be separated. Cultural symbols do not only show cultural elements but also provide a moral message and aesthetic side in reading literary works. 4) Folklore can become an identity in culture from that it can be drawn that cultural symbols can show the progress of civilization in a culture. 5) The three folklores of the archipelago that have been studied have their own characteristics. Oheo with the influence of the elements of marriage and social stratification, Kaba Malin Deman with a touch of matrilineality, and Tujuh Bidadari with the influence of religious elements

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe the characteristics of the needs and development models on the “Wayang Banjaran Bima” Stories of Based on Drama Text with a Character Education for High School / Vocational School. The study is conducted by using research and development design. The enrichment book is developed by applying the feasibility aspects of it, book consisting of four aspects namely material, linguistic, presentation, and graphic. In addition, enrichment book products are arranged in accordance with the principles of preparation of enrichment books such as having conformity with educational goals, adjusting to the development of science, and developing the ability to reason. The draft enrichment book consists of the beginning, contents, and last. The enrichment book development of products are based on the characteristics of the students needs who expect the preparation of puppet story material based on drama texts and there is a character education content. The puppet story is developed in the form of a drama script text divided into six the Banjaran Bima plays, namely (1) Bima Bungkus, (2) Bale Sigala-gala, (3) Dewa Ruci, (4) Bima Suci, (5) Jagal Abilawa, and ( 6) Pandhu Swarga. The content of character education is inserted into the whole story in the conclusion section at the end story. With the content of character education students are expected to be able to understand the values contained in the puppet story and it can be applied in everyday life.

Abstract

The objectives of this study are (1) to find out and to present the evidence whether the pedagogical model of the genre affects the writing skills of elementary school students, (2) to know and present the evidence whether Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) affects the writing skills of elementary school students, (3) to know and explain evidence whether the genre pedagogical model and Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) jointly influence the writing skills of elementary school students. This research is a Pre-Experimental Design with One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. In this design, there is only one class that will be analyzed and measure the extent of students' writing skills before and after treatment. The results of the study are proven (1) that genre pedagogical model has a positive and significant effect on the writing skills of grade 5 elementary school students, (2) that the Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) has a positive and significant effect on the writing skills of grade 5 elementary school students, (3) that the genre pedagogical model and Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) jointly influence the writing skills of grade 5 elementary school students.

Abstract

The reality in the media world today is that apart from RRI and TVRI, private radio and television are also very concerning in their role as the coach of the Indonesian language. The purpose of this study was to analyze the factors that tend to influence the attitude of the news announcers Radio Elshinta Semarang and RRI Pro 1 Semarang. This research design uses descriptive qualitative. The data collection method used was the observation method. The data collection technique in this study was a record and note technique. The instrument in this study was the researcher himself. Data collection tools used were data collection guides and data cards. Miles and Huberman's data analysis model was used in this study. Based on the results of data analysis, internal factors that affect the language attitudes of news announcers Radio Elshinta Semarang and Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) pro 1 Semarang are language mastery factors (cognitive component), other language mastery factors (language contact), preference factors (affective component) and language ideology factor (language belief). The results of this study provide theoretical and practical advantages. The benefits of this study can produce concepts regarding language attitudes in order to enhance sociolinguistic scientific treasures and help understanding sociolinguistic studies, especially in relation to language attitudes and can be a guide for news broadcasters to be able to be positive in speaking in public spaces.

Abstract

Utomo’s novels are very related to the theme of religion and culture. The language used tends to be simple but still interesting and beautiful so research on the form and function of language style is very interesting. The purpose of this study is to describe the form and function of language style in the three Utomo novels. Data collection is done by heuristic techniques or read by repeatedly. Data analysis method used is hermeneutics. Almost all types of figurative language styles are found, but for the sake of effective exposure, only three data would be presented as examples of the form of language style and the function of language style. The three most found figurative languages are metaphor, simile, hyperbole, personification, and sinekdoke. The function of language also varies, starting from clarifying the picture, increasing the impression, shortening the narrative, and describing the character's feelings. Fulfillment of these functions with simple but beautiful forms of language style makes Utomo's novels have high aesthetic value and are easily understood by readers.

Abstract

The formation of student personalities that can be developed with writing explanatory texts enrichment book containing 21st century competencies includes aspects of knowledge, skills, and personality that are integrated with 21st century competencies that students must master. This study aims to analyze the need for enrichment book development in writing explanatory text with 21st century competencies and the characteristics of enrichment book development for writing explanatory text with 21st century competence. The research method uses the Research and Development and uses six steps out of ten steps in the R&D method. The results obtained from this study were an analysis of the needs of students and teachers which were grouped based on question aspects, namely (1) material and content needs, (2) 21st century competency content needs, (3) presentation needs, (4) language needs. and (5) legibility and graphics needs. This needs analysis is to determine the tendency of the needs of students and teachers to the form of the enrichment book being developed. Then, the characteristics of the enrichment book are writing explanatory texts containing 21st century competencies according to the perceptions of students and teachers in accordance with the principles of content feasibility, presentation feasibility, linguistic feasibility, and graphic feasibility. In addition, teachers and students are very in accordance with the form of the book that is being made easy to carry. Therefore, the development of an enrichment book to write explanatory texts containing 21st century competencies is in accordance with the wishes of teachers and students in using a learning resource.

Abstract

Literary learning materials are one of the important components used by teachers in learning activities. Good learning materials can help students achieve learning goals. Sources of literature learning materials tend to focus on reference books from the government. Even though there are still many literary learning materials that can be used, one is novel. The research objective was to describe the teacher's response to Satin Merah's novel by Brahmanto Anindito and Rie Yanti as literary learning material at Senior High School. This research uses a pragmatic approach. The research is based on the reception of Indonesian language teachers at the Senior High School level on the feasibility of a novel based on the feasibility assessment of the BSNP in terms of content, language, and presentation. This study indicates that Satin Merah's novel's feasibility level is 82.5%, which means that this novel is feasible and has a good reputation as literary learning material at Senior High School. The feasibility results are shown in terms of content feasibility of 84.2%, language feasibility of 81.5%, and presentation feasibility of 82%. In terms of content, this novel develops self-potential, has creativity and depth of story, and develops readers' characters to love and preserve local culture. In terms of language, the language used is following Indonesian rules and according to the target audience. In terms of presentation, this novel pays attention to the building blocks and mostly develops characters and inspires readers.

Abstract

The study was carried out to investigate the language loyalty of bilingual people in Boarding School environment. The aims of the study were to describe the languages used by bilingual people in Boarding School environment, to identify the intensity level of language use and to explain the language loyalty of bilingual people. The study used analytical description of Qualitative methods. Questionnaire and Observation used to gather the data. To analyse the data, the researcher used sociolinguictic and descriptive approach. The study was conducted to 50 bilingual people based on gender, age, and profession. The result of the study suggested that 1) The languages used by bilingual people were Sundanese, Indonesian, English, and Arabic; 2) The high intensity level of language use was Indonesian, the second was Arabic, the third was Sundanese, the fourth was English; and 3) The loyalty of Sundanese use as a mother tongue was lower than other languages [Indonesia, Arabic, English]. The factors that contributed to the language loyalty of bilingual people were job demands that required to use Indonesian and Arabic, less confidence in using Sundanese correctly including the speech level [undak-usuk], and their existence in boarding school environment.

Abstract

Learning model is standardization for developing the one's skill and in the interpersonal situations. This study aims to determine the effect of learning models to the test results of the students’ writing skill of the explanation text in class VIII grade at junior high school. This research is an ex-post-facto research. The population of this research is all students of VIII grade at SMP of the 2019/2020 academic year. The sample in this study were students of class VIIIA and VIIIB SMP N 22 Semarang with the amount of 64 students who were taken by cluster random sampling, namely by choosing two classes randomly. Data collection techniques were questionnaires for student learning model data and tests to obtain data on the results of the skill to write explanation text for class VIIIA and VIIIB students. The results showed that (1) students with auditory learning models had the highest average score rather than the others who use visual and other learning models. (2) the learning model in this study has a significant effect on the results of the students; skill to write explanation text. (3) The learning model in this study gives e a large effective contribution 89.9% to the results of the students’ writing skill of explanation text; this proved that the learning model is one of the important factors for the students' achievement in writing skill of explanation text.

Abstract

The enrichment book is one of the supporting tools of learning activities directed in developing of students’ knowledge, insights, and skills. The purpose of this research is to describe the profile and acceptability of the development of enrichment book in writing negotiation texts based on the 21st century’s competencies that are in appropriate with the students’ and educators’ needs. This research was conducted by seven stages that used a research and development design. The seven stages are (1) potential and problems, (2) information and data collection, (3) design of book’s profile, (4) validation test (5) revision (6) limited trial, and (7) final revision. The result of this research is a development of enrichment book for writing negotiation texts that is compiled with 21st century’s competencies (4C) which is directed at 21stcentury learning. The negotiation text that is developed contains of the 21st century’s competencies aspects, namely critical-thinking, creative, communicative, and collaborative. The acceptability of enrichment books for educators and students is an enrichment book that helps them understand and increase their knowledge of the materials in writing negotiation texts, and the presentation of enrichment book is adjusted to students’ characteristics and their development level. The theoretical benefits of this research can be used as an alternative theory in developing an enrichment book that is customized to the need of 21st century’s students. The practical benefit can be used as a guide-book for the educators.
