Abstract

Nowadays, the elimination of the speed sensor in Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine (PMSM) is greatly recommended to increase efficiency and reduce the cost of the drives. This paper proposes a simple estimator for speed and rotor position of PMSM drives using adaptive controller. The novelties of the proposed method are the simple estimator equations and the absence of the voltage probe which depend on direct and quadrature reference current only. The simplified mathematical model of the PMSM is formulated by using V-I model, based on adaptive control. Then, the speed estimation error of the voltage and current model based are analyzed. Thus, an adaptation mechanism model is established to cancel the error of the measured and estimated d-q currents. Since the output of the estimator is the position feedback, the performances of speed responses are presented. The hardware implementation of proposed sensorless drives is realized via dSPACE DS11103 panel. dSPACE Real Time Implementation (RTI) is the linkage between software and hardware set-up. It automatically processes the MATLAB Simulink model into dSPACE DS11103 processor. The experimental-hardware results demonstrate that the speed and position estimator of the proposed method is able to control the PMSM drives for forward and reverse of speed command, acceleration, deceleration and robustness to load disturbance.

Abstract

This paper addresses the problem of controlling three-phase grid connected PV system involving a PV arrays, a voltage source inverter, a grid filter and an electric grid. This paper presents three main control objectives: i) ensuring the Maximum power point tracking (MPPT) in the side of PV panels, ii) guaranteeing a power factor unit in the side of the grid, iii) and ensuring the asymptotic stability of the closed loop system. Interestingly, the present study features the achievement of the above energetic goal without resorting to sensors of currents of the grid. To this end, an output-feedback control strategy combining a state observer and a nonlinear control laws is developed. The proposed output-feedback control strategy is backed by a formal analysis showing that all control objectives are actually achieved

Abstract

The operational performance of a three phase induction motor is impaired by unbalanced voltage supply due to the generation of negative sequence currents, and negative sequence torque which increase motor losses and also trigger torque pulsations. In this study, data mining approach was applied in developing a predictive model using the historical, simulated operational data of a motor for classifying sample motor data under the appropriate type of voltage supply i.e. balanced (BV) and unbalance voltage supply (UB = 1% to 5%). A dataset containing the values of a three phase induction motor’s performance parameter values was analysed using KNIME (Konstanz Information Miner) analytics platform. Three predictive models; the Naïve Bayes, Decision Tree and the Probabilistic Neural Network (PNN) Predictors were deployed for comparative analysis. The dataset was divided into two; 70% for model training and learning, and 30% for performance evaluation. The three predictors had accuracies of 98.649%, 100% and 98.649% respectively, and this confirms the suitability of data mining methods for predictive evaluation of a three phase induction motor’s performance using machine learning

Abstract

In the majority of the isolated areas, the diesel generator is the principal source of electric power. For these areas, the price of extension of the electrical supply network is prohibitory and the price of fuel increases radically with insulation. The continuous fall in the prices of the generators based on renewable energy and the increasing reliability of these systems led to a greater use of the sources of renewable energy for the generation of electric power in the isolated areas. The diesel generators can incorporate in a network with other sources in base of renewable energies in order to create a new network known as distributed network. More recently intermittent renewable resources such as the wind power were considered as a distributed generation which is seen as being deployed to reduce the total emissions. The distributed generation equipment sets causing electric disturbances result in destabilizing the global network as well as pollutant, for these reason, system D-FACTS comes to answer all the concern of the customers, manufacturers, suppliers and the managers of the distributed network.

Abstract

In general, the application of Self-Excited Induction Generator (SEIG) or Synchronous Generator (SG) on the Stand-Alone Micro Hydel Power Plant (MHPP) is equipped with Electronic Load Controller (ELC) to control generator output during variations in consumer load. One type of ELC that is cheap and rigid developed today is the ELC, which is constructed by the uncontrolled bridge rectifier with DC Chopper. Based on the operational concept, basically this type of ELC can be implemented on both SEIG and SG, but both of these generators will have a different harmonic distortion effect on the output and its load. This paper examines the differences in the effects of harmonic distortions due to ELC installation on SEIG and SG. The initial stage of this study was to design the ELC developed. Then, the harmonic distortion response due to the installation of ELC on SEIG and SG is tested, which includes harmonic distortion in: stator current, PCC voltage, and consumer load current. THDI (Current Total Harmonic Distortion) stator current at SEIG with ELC has shown an average value smaller than the THD stator current in SG with ELC. Likewise, the THDV (Voltage Total Harmonic Distortion) value of PCC voltage and THDI value of the current consumer load on SEIG equipped with ELC has been shown to be smaller than the THDV value of PCC voltage and THDI value of the current consumer load on SG equipped with ELC. The effects of harmonic distortions due to the installation of ELCs that developed in this study on SEIG is still within the permitted limits, while on the SG, the harmonic distortion reduction is needed at the generator output.

Abstract

The power supplied by photovoltaic DC–DC converter is affected by two factors, sun irradiance and temperature. Therefore, to improve the performance of the PV system; a mechanism to track the maximum power point (MPP) is required. Conventional maximum power point tracking approaches, such as observation and perturbation technique present some difficulties in identifying the true MPP. Therefore, intelligent systems including fuzzy logic controllers (FLC) are introduced for the maximum power point tracking system (MPPT). In this paper, we present a comparative study of the PV standalone system which is controlled by three techniques. The first one is conventional based on the observation and perturbation technique, the other are intelligent based on fuzzy logic according Mamdani and Takagi-Sugeno models. The investigations show that the fuzzy logic controllers provide the best results and Takagi-Sugeno model presents the lower overshoot value.

Abstract

The tremendous recent involvement of technology in our life generates a lot of advantages and disadvantages. Nevertheless, and to profoundly augment its positive influence, at the expense of the negatives, most technology be deployed to serve humanity and society. Researchers attractive in developing robust and cooperative robotics that capable of solving difficult tasks without any human control. Metal detector robot is one of the robotics principles due to its effectiveness as compared with manually operated and very slow traditional methods. In this article, three main points that are concentrated 1) Design a robot which is vehicle-mounted sensors that capable of carries the sensors of the metal and obstacle; 2) Control and management system wirelessly by a computer-based to command the robot functions by several sets of user’s rules and manage the robot instructions; and 3) Conduct an integrated system that achieving navigated data via metal detector based on online structured query language database registry. Also, discussed a comparison of the previous detector systems and highlights on several merits. The proposed system capable of fully control the robot also, set the robot operator permissions and rules, stored and archived the navigated results and printed reports and stored in an independent database.
