Abstract

This paper presents simplified control strategy of Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation method  including over modulation region  with linear transfer characteristic for cascaded H-bridge inverters. Because of large number of switching states of the cascaded H- Bridge inverter, the over modulation operation is very complex. And also requires incorporation of  both under modulation and over modulation algorithms. The proposed control method is effective in terms of selecting the optimal switching states with reduced computational complexity using simplified linear calculations which makes it easier for digital implementation. The performance of the proposed method  is simulated and tested experimentally through Spartan 3A FPGA processor for five level Cascaded H-bridge Inverter. The simulation results and harmonic analysis of voltage and current at various modulation indexes as are presented which are in well agreement.

Abstract

In this paper a new, simple multilevel inverter topology is proposed. Multilevel inverter uses several dc sources and power switches to synthesize desired output voltage waveform. The single phase structure of proposed topology in this paper consists of two dc sources and eight power switches. When the magnitudes of dc sources are equal it operates in symmetric mode, however in order to increase output voltage levels unequal magnitudes of dc sources are selected, then it operates in asymmetric mode. So far, multilevel inverter topologies have been used in motor drive industry to run induction motors. Recently permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) are replacing induction motors.  Multilevel inverter is an attracting choice for driving high performance PMSM. However very few studies discuss the performance of multilevel inverter fed PMSM. In this paper simulation of novel symmetric and asymmetric multilevel inverter is carried out to analyze performance of PMSM. The topology is investigated through computer simulation using MATLAB/Simulink.

Abstract

The present work deals to investigate the performance of linear switched reluctance motor designed for a sliding door application. The objective of this paper is to develop an analytical model in order to predict the dynamic behaviour of the studied motor. Firstly, the characteristics of the proposed motor in open loop operation was computed.Secondly, the effect of the load on the response of the motor was investigated. In this context, a two technoque in open loop were adopted to solve the error positioning with load and to damp the oscillation observed in the characteristics of the motor in order to obtain a smooth motion.

Abstract

This paper presents the design and analysis of a relatively new wireless power transfer technique using capacitive coupling, named Capacitive power transfer (CPT). In general, CPT system has been introduced as an attractive alternative to the former inductive coupling method. This is because CPT uses lesser number of components, simpler topology, enhanced EMI performance and better strength to surrounding metallic elements. In this work, aluminium sheet is used as a capacitive coupling at transmitter and receiver side. Moreover, a Class-E resonant inverter together with π1a impedance matching network has been proposed because of its ability to perform the dc-to-ac inversion well. It helps the CPT system to achieve maximum power transfer. The CPT system is designed and simulated by using MATLAB/Simulink software. The validity of the proposed concept is then verified by conducting a laboratory experimental of CPT system. The proposed system able to generate a 9.5W output power through a combined interface capacitance of 2.44nF, at an operating frequency of 1MHz, with 95.10% efficiency. The proposed CPT system with impedance matching network also allows load variation in the range of 20% from its nominal value while maintaining the efficiency over 90%.

Abstract

Sensorless technique becomes popular nowadays in electrical drive applications specificially for AC motor drive. It is applied to determine and estimate the rotor position especially for PMSM motor. This paper presents the comparison sensorless technique to determine and estimate the position and rotor of PMSM motor. PMSM motor is widely used in industrial and automation due to its high performance motor drive. However, the location of PMSM motor in humidity and harsh environment causing the accuracy of motor is inaccurate due to deterioration of position sensor . Therefore, many sensorless techniques have been proposed by previous researchers in order to solve the problem. This paper presents the review of several categories; Model Based Method, Saliency Based Method and Signal Injection, and Artificial Intelligence Based Estimator. In addition, sensorless techniques on each category have been compared and described in terms of their advantages and disadvantages.

Abstract

In this paper, a new approach is proposed for keeping the RMS voltage output constant, the system is supplying by a self-excited induction generator (SEIG) driven by a controlled DC motor with variable speed and load. The scheme used in this paper is based on a classical Proportional-Integral regulator wich controls a SPWM switching. A MATLAB Simulink model of the system is developed to maintain the AC voltage at the desired value. Then a comparison is examined between simulation and experimental results using dSPACE board. The results are provided to verify the effectiveness of this approach and it gives very high performance.

Abstract

Five control algorithms are presented in this paper for STATCOM that meets the requirement of load reactive power and correspondingly voltage balancing of isolated dc capacitors for H-bridges. The control techniques used for an inverter in this paper are Sinusoidal Phase Shifted Carrier (SPSC) PWM, Sinusoidal Phase Disposition (SPD) PWM Third Harmonic Injected Phase Shifted Carrier (THIPSC) PWM, Space Vector Phase Shifted Carrier (SVPSC) PWM, and Space Vector Phase Disposition (SVPD) PWM techniques.  The STATCOM performance for the different load changes is simulated in MATLAB environment. The performance parameters such as balancing the DC link voltage, THD for the STATCOM output currents, voltages, and reactive components supplied by the STATCOM to the load are compared for all the control strategies.

Abstract

In this article, we are interested in the improvement of the performances of Doubly Fed Induction Machine (DFIM) operating in motor mode by the use of the direct torque control (DTC). Firstly, we focused on the modeling of the DFIM and the study of the principle of functioning of the DTC control. Then, we implement this control on the Matlab/Simulink environment. Secondly, we present the simulation results of the proposed control. The analysis of these results shows clearly that the system based on the DFIM studied follows perfectly the set points, what allowed us to justify the efficiency of the elaborate control.

Abstract

The  real problems in diminution of power quality occurs due to the rapid growth of nonlinear load are leads to sudden decrease of source voltage for a few seconds  i.e sag, swell, harmonics in source and load current, voltage unbalance etc. All these   problems can be compensated by using Unified Power Quality Controller (UPQC) and the operation of UPQC depends upon the available voltage across capacitor present in dc link. If the capacitor voltage is maintained constant then it gives satisfactory performance. The proposed research is basically on designing of Photo Voltaic (PV) /Wind energy fed to the dc link capacitor of UPQC so as to maintain proper voltage across it and operate the UPQC for power quality analysis. The said model is simulated in Matlab and results are verified by using FFT analysis.The proposed PV/ Wind energy-UPQC is design in Matlab simulation for reduction of voltage sag, swell, interruption of voltage, harmonics in load current and compensation of active and reactive power.

Abstract

This paper proposes implementation of coupled inductor based 7 level inverter with reduced number switches. The inverter which generates the sinusoidal output voltage by the use of coupled inductor with reduced total harmonic distortion. The voltage stress on each switching devices, capacitor balancing and common mode voltage can be minimized. The proposed system which gives better controlled output current and improved output voltage with diminished THD value. The switching devices of the system are controlled by using hysteresis current control algorithm by comparing the carrier signals with constant pulses with enclosed hysteresis band value. The simulation and experimental results of the proposed system outputs are verified using matlab/Simulink and TMS320F3825 dsp controller respectively.
