Abstract

In this paper, two optimization methods are used to adjust the gain values for the cascade PID controller. These algorithms are the butterfly optimization algorithm (BOA), which is a modern method based on tracking the movement of butterflies to the scent of a fragrance to reach the best position and the second method is particle swarm optimization (PSO). The PID controllers in this system are used to control the position, velocity, and current of a permanent magnet DC motor (PMDC) with an accurate tracking trajectory to reach the desired position. The simulation results using the Matlab environment showed that the butterfly optimization algorithm is better than the particle swarming optimization (PSO) in terms of performance and overshoot or any deviation in tracking the path to reach the desired position. While an overshoot of 2.557% was observed when using the PSO algorithm, and a position deviation of 7.82 degrees was observed from the reference position.

Abstract

The problem of power outages is still present in most cities of Iraq as a result of the wars and crises experienced by Iraq and this makes it difficult to provide continuous electric power to the electrical devices. All telecommunications companies, including Zain, Asia cell, etc in Iraq used diesel generators as an alternative source to the national electricity grid, but this will adversely affect the environment and humans as a result of toxic emissions associated with the use of these generators. In this paper, a stand-alone PVsystem was designed and simulated to supply a base transceiver station (BTS) in Iraq. A BTS in Jadriyah, Baghdad with 4.177 kW load power belong to Zain Telecommunication Company was taken as a case study in this paper. The meteorological data of the Jadriyah region were taken from a weather station belong to the ministry of Sciences and Technology in Iraq for the year 2017. The simulation for this BTS was carried out using the Pvsyst simulation program. The financial analysis of the proposed system shows that it has small kWh unit price (0.108 $/kWh).

Abstract

This paper focuses on the modeling and control of a wind energy conversion chain using a permanent magnet synchronous machine. This system behaves a turbine, a generator, DC/DC and DC/AC power converters. These are connected on both sides to the DC bus, where the inverter is followed by a filter which is connected to the grid. In this paper, we have been used two types of controllers. For the stator side converter, we consider the Takagi-Sugeno approach where the parameters of controller have been computed by the theory of linear matrix inequalities. The stability synthesis has been checked using the Lyapunov theory. According to the grid side converter, the proportional integral controller is exploited to keep a constant voltage on the DC bus and control both types of powers. The simulation results demonstrate the robustness of the approach used.

Abstract

In the article is presented a single-phase series active power filter (SFSAPF) designed to compensate the total harmonic distortion (THD) factor of the supply network voltage. Particular attention is paid to the work of the output capacitor of the passive filter, and dependencies for the design of the filter at hysteresis voltage control are presented. The value of the higher harmonics of the current through the filter capacitor is determined. A mathematical relationship between the voltage ripple of the capacitor, its value and the switching frequency is derived. As a result of the advanced research a methodology for designing the output filter of a single-phase serial active power filter has been proposed. The results from computer simulation and experiment are also given.

Abstract

The significance of the solar energy is to intensify the effectiveness of the Solar Panel with the use of a primordial solar tracking system. Here we propounded a solar positioning system with the use of the global positioning system (GPS) , artificial neural network (ANN) and image processing (IP) . The azimuth angle of the sun is evaluated using GPS which provide latitude, date, longitude and time. The image processing used to find sun image through which centroid of sun is calculated and finally by comparing the centroid of sun with GPS quadrate to achieve optimum tracking point. Weather conditions and situation observed through AI decision making with the help of IP algorithms. The presented advance adaptation is analyzed and established via experimental effects which might be made available on the memory of the cloud carrier for systematization. The proposed system improve power gain by 59.21% and 10.32% compare to stable system (SS) and two-axis solar following system (TASF) respectively. The reduced tracking error of IoT based Two-axis solar following system (IoT-TASF) reduces their azimuth angle error by 0.20 degree.

Abstract

This paper recommends the use of grasshopper optimization algorithm (GOA), a nature-inspired optimization algorithm, for optimizing switching-angle applied to cascaded H-bridge multilevel inverter (CHBMLI). Switching angles are selected based on the minimum value of the objective function formulated using the concept of selective harmonic minimization pulse width modulation (SHMPWM) technique. MATLAB/Simulink-PSIM dynamic co-simulation conducted on a 3-phase 9-level CHBMLI shows that the CHBMLI controlled using GOA derived switching-angle is able to respond to varying modulation index demand and synthesize an AC staircase output voltage waveform with the desired fundamental harmonic and minimized selected low-order harmonics. Compared to Newton Raphson (NR) technique, GOA is able to find optimum switching-angle solutions over a wider modulation index range. Compared to Genetic Algorithm (GA), GOA is able to find global minima with higher probability. The simulation results validate the performance of GOA for switching-angle calculation based on the concept of SHMPWM.

Abstract

This study investigates experimentally the performance of two-dimensional solar tracking systems with reflector using commercial silicon based photovoltaic module, with open and closed loop control systems. Different reflector materials were also investigated. The experiments were performed at the Hashemite University campus in Zarqa at a latitude of 32⁰, in February and March. Photovoltaic output power and performance were analyzed. It was found that the modified photovoltaic module with mirror reflector generated the highest value of power, while the temperature reached a maximum value of 53 ̊ C. The modified module suggested in this study produced 5% more PV power than the two-dimensional solar tracking systems without reflector and produced 12.5% more PV power than the fixed PV module with 26⁰ tilt angle.

Abstract

This paper deals with the modeling and control of an advanced static var compensator (ASVC) using a five-level neutral point-clamped (NPC) voltage source inverter (VSI). The nonlinear state space model of the five-level ASVC is obtained from the d-q axis frame. The effectiveness of this compensator highly depends on the choice of the control strategy. The proposed state feedback control (SFC) technique is applied to adjust the ASVC Var flow with the AC transmission network and achieve DC voltage capacitor balance. The dynamic performance of the ASVC based SFC controller is evaluated under several operating conditions. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed SFC control strategy is highly robust compared to the conventional Proportional-Integral (PI) control.

Abstract

This work presents a hybrid soft-computing methodology approach for intelligent maximum power point tracking (MPPT) techniques of a photovoltaic (PV) system under any expected operating conditions using artificial neural network-fuzzy (neuro-fuzzy). The proposed technique predicts the calculation of the duty cycle ensuring optimal power transfer between the PV generator and the load. The neuro-fuzzy hybrid method combines artificial neural network (ANN) to direct the controller to the region where the MPP is located with its reference voltage estimator and its block of neural order. After that, the fuzzy logic controller (FLC) with rule inference begins to establish the photovoltaic solar system at the MPP. The obtained simulation results using MATLAB/simulink software for the proposed approach compared to ANN and the perturb and observe (P&O), proved that neuro-fuzzy approach fulfilled to extract the optimum power with pertinence, efficiency and precision

Abstract

This paper describes the architecture and control of an autonomous hybrid solar-wind system (AHSWS) powered distributed generation system supplying to a 3ϕ-4 wire system. It includes a nonlinear controlling technique for maximum power point tracking (MPPT) used in doubly fed induction generator dependent wind energy translation scheme and solar photovoltaic system (SPVS). In the hybrid model, the DC/DC converter output from the PV system is explicitly coupled with the DC-link of DFIG's back-to-back converter. An arithmetical model of the device is developed, derived using a suitable d-q reference frame. The grid-voltage-oriented vector regulation is required to manage the GSC to keep the steady-state voltage of the DC bus and to adjust reactive power on the grid side. Also, the stator-voltageoriented control scheme offers a stable function of DFIG to regulate the RSC on the stator edge for reactive and active power management in this approach. DC/DC converter is being used to maintain the maximum power from SPVS. A Perturb & Observe method is used for tracing maximum power in an SPVS. The simulation designs of 4.0kW DFIG and 4.5kW solar array simulator are built-in SIMPOWER software kit of MATLAB, it is shown to achieve optimum efficiency under various mechanical and electrical circumstances. It can produce rated frequency and voltage in both scenarios.
