International Journal of Power Electronics and Drive Systems (IJPEDS, ISSN: 2088-8694, a SCOPUS indexed Journal) is the official publication of the Institute of Advanced Engineering and Science (IAES). The scope of the journal includes all issues in the field of Power Electronics and drive systems. This paper presents a new resistant control method for synchronized connection of FACTS & HVDC aiming to get the stability of small signal of the power system. The efficiency of the proposed controller on the stability of the entire tested system has been proved and also guarantees the stability against uncertainty and turmoil. Applying this method can also reduce the difficulties of oscillations between adjacent areas to generator without strengthening transmission lines or costly constraints on system performance. The simulation results on a system of 68 buses, 16 generators and 5 areas show that the mentioned controller with embedded HVDC and SVC has significant performance despite changes in parameters.

We present this work by two steps. In the first one, the new structure proposed of the FP-HEMTs device (Field plate High Electron Mobility Transistor) with a T-gate on an 4H-SIC substrate to optimize these electrical performances, multiple field-plates were used with aluminum oxide to split the single electric field peak into several smaller peaks, and as passivation works to reduce scaling leakage current. In the next, we include a modeling of a simulation in the Tcad-Silvaco Software for realizing the study of the influence of negative voltage applied to gate T-shaped in OFF state time and high power with ambient temperature, the performance differences between the 3FP and the SFP devices are discussed in detail.

The authors present the design, simulation and analysis of a single phase voltage source inverter using soft switching techniques. The performance of the inverter has been compared in terms of harmonic contents present in output voltage and current. The research works for a PWM inverter along with a LLCC filter has been investigated. This paper also investigated the performance of the same inverter with a feedback controller with a closed loop feedback path to maintain rated output voltage. This Paper compares the sensitivity of various adjustable speed drives to voltage sag for the process control applications. Three phase voltage sag of type B caused due to SLG fault is considered and four topologies of ASD’s are compared in this paper. The comparison is done especially in speed, voltage, current and torque of the ASDs. Diode rectifier without z source inverter, diode rectifier with z source inverter , single phase two leg Vienna rectifier and single phase neutral linked Vienna with z source inverter are compared and the best one is highlighted. The circuits of various ASD’s are simulated using Matlab /Simulink.

Battery energy storage systems are becoming more and more popular solution in the household applications, especially, in combination with renewable energy sources. The bidirectional AC-DC power electronic converter have great impact to the overall efficiency, size, mass and reliability of the storage system. This paper reviews the literature that deals with high efficiency converter technologies for connecting low voltage battery energy storage to an AC distribution grid. Due to low voltage of the battery isolated bidirectional AC-DC converter or a dedicated topology of the non isolated converter is required. Review on single stage, two stage power converters and integrated solutions are done in the paper.

The paper proposes Direct Torque Control (DTC) of a five-phase induction motor drive with reduced torque ripple. The method presented here is the DTC Backstepping based on the classic DTC working with a constant switching frequency of the inverter. Another remarkable aspect is the complexity of the method proposed, both in the control unit of the inverter and in the number of correctors necessary for the control of the torque. The selection table and hysteresis have been eliminated. This method significantly improves the torque and flux oscillations and improves the dynamics of the drive by making it less sensitive to load torque disturbances. The proposed method is developed and designed using Matlab/SIMULINK to show the eectiveness and performances of the DTC-Backstepping.

In the past few years the growing demand for electricity and serious concern for the environment have given rise to the growth of sustainable sources like wind, solar, tidal, biomass etc. The technological advancement in power electronics has led to the extensive usage of solar power. Solar power output varies with the weather conditions and under shading conditions. With the increasing concerns of the impacts of the high penetration of Photovoltaic (PV) systems, a technical study about their effects on the power quality of the utility grid is required. This paper investigates the functioning of a grid-tied PV system along with maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm. The effects of varying atmospheric conditions like solar irradiance and temperature are also taken into account. It is proposed in this work that an Electric Vehicle (EV) can be used as an energy storage to stabilize the power supplied to the grid from the photovoltaic resources. A coordinated control is necessary for the EV to obtain desired outcome. The modeling of the PV and EV system is carried out in PSCAD and the proposed idea is verified through simulation results utilizing real field data for solar irradiance and temperature.

One of the common methods that developed to predict state of charge is open circuit voltage (OCV) method. The problem which commonly occurs is to find the correction parameter between open circuit voltage and loaded voltage of the battery. In this research, correlation between state of charge measurement at loaded condition of a Panasonic LC-VA1212NA1, which is a valve-regulated lead acid (VRLA) battery, and open circuit voltage had been analyzed. Based on the results of research, correlation between battery’s measured voltage under loaded condition and open circuit voltage could be approached by two linearization area. It caused by K v ’s values tend to increase when measured voltage under loaded condition V M < 11.64 volt. However, K v values would be relatively stable for every V M ≥ 11.64 volts. Therefore, estimated state of charge value, in respect to loaded battery voltage, would increase slower on V M < 11.64 volts and faster on other range.

Wireless power transfer (WPT) using inductive and resonant coupling has been widely explored in recent years for ease and safety over conventional cable charging systems. The efficiency of WPT systems is reducing drastically due to an increase in air-gaps and misalignment between transmitter (Tx) and receiver (Rx). Many circuit topologies have been analyzed to improve the efficiency of WPT system based on symmetrical coils. However, the circuit topologies have not been studied widely for unsymmetrical coils. This paper presents the investigation of two fundamental topologies i.e. Series-Series (SS) and Series-Parallel (SP) for unsymmetrical coils as well as symmetrical coils. Theoretical analysis of both the compensation topologies have been accomplished, then modeling of both the topologies have been done using two different combination of circular coils. In first case, two similar size coils have been designed and in second case transmitter coil of higher dimensions than receiver coil is designed. The efficiency of the system has been analyzed at multiple distances in both cases by integrating coil structure with the circuit. The overall result show that when Tx is bigger than Rx, the SP topology gives better efficiency than SS counterpart.

In this paper, the design of combined operation of UPQC and PV-ARRAY is designed. The proposed system is composed of series and shunt inverters connected back to back by a dc-link to which pv-array is connected. This system is able to compensate voltage and current related problems both in inter-connected mode and islanding mode by injecting active power to grid. The fundamental aspect is that the power electronic devices (PE) and sensitive equipments (SE) are normally designed to work in non-polluted power system, so they would suffer from malfunctions when supply voltage is not pure sinusoidal. Thus this proposed operating strategy with flexible operation mode improves the power quality of the grid system combining photovoltaic array with a control of unified power quality conditioner. Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) is used in both three phase four leg inverters. A Proportional Integral (PI) and Fuzzy Logic Controllers are used for power quality improvement by reducing the distortions in the output power.
