A battery-less energy harvesting interface circuit to extract electrical energy from vibration has been proposed in this paper for low power applications. The voltage doubler integrated with DC – DC boost converter circuits were designed and simulated using MultiSIM software. The circuit was then fabricated onto a printed circuit board (PCB), using standard fabrication process. The Cockcroft Walton doubler was chosen to be implemented in this study by utilizing diode-capacitor topologies with additional RC low pass filter. The DC – DC boost converter has been designed using a CMOS step -up DC – DC switching regulators, which are suitable for low input voltage system. The achievement of this interface circuit was able to boost up the maximum voltage of 5 V for input voltage of 800 mV.

Each solar thermal plant can provide different parameters to be treated and evaluated, mostly temperature measurements, pressure specifications, heat transfer values. This data collection can be quite expensive taking into account the important number of sensors and data loggers and their specifications. Hence to assure flexibility in the data collection at a low cost, many hardware and software specifications can be adopted. Here we built an inexpensive data logger based on the Arduino board and IDE to collect and store incoming data from Resol DeltaSol regulators integrated in different solar water heating systems. The objective of this study is to allow massive synchronized measurements with high resolution to be stored into an SD card through the Arduino platform. The measurements are given by multiple sensors (temperature, pump speed, relay states) connected to the regulator. The results from the tests of the plant connected to the data logger are provided later on, alongside the commercial aspects of the built data logging device. After a month of daily measurements, the data logger showed an outstanding performance with an extreme low cost compared to industrial datalogger.

Induction motors offer many advantages tools, and therefore are becoming very popular industrially and commercially. This paper presents the implementation of Xmega microcontroller based PWM inverter controlled of four-switch three phase voltage source inverter (FSTPI) fed induction motor drive. The reduction of the number of power switches from six to four improves the cost effectiveness, volume-compactness and reliability of the three phase inverters in addition to less complexity of control algorithms and reduced interface circuits. Simulation and experimental work are carried out and results presented to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed approach. Simulation is carried out using SIMULINK and in experimental work, a prototype model is built to verify the simulation results. XMEGA microcontroller (XMEGA64A3) is used to generate the PWM pulses with a new algorithm for FSTPI to drive a 5 hp, 3-phase induction motor. Experimental and simulation results show that the proposed drive system provides a fast speed response and good disturbance rejection capability.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijpeds.v3i2.2533

Permanent magnet flux switching machine (PMFSM) is a joint venture of switch reluctance machine (SRM) and permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM). It has become a prominent research topic for various applications because of robust rotor structure, high torque and power densities but few were developed for downhole applications mainly due to harsh environmental conditions. Formerly, most of developed PMFSMs for downhole applications were mainly concentrated on inner-rotor type design, and difficult to find research work on outer-rotor configuration. Therefore, this paper introduces the design and investigation of PMFSM with outer-rotor configuration for downhole application. Primarily, the geometric topology of proposed design is described in detail. Then, the no load and load analysis are implemented in order to investigate the initial performance of the proposed design.

The conventional three-level inverter has been proposed to act as a recuperating converter in Traction Supply Substation. This converter is mainly used to feed back the regenerative braking energy to the grid. However, passive filter is desired to mitigate the current and voltage harmonics. Therefore, this paper investigates the possibility to use a seven-level Cascaded H-Bridge (CHB) converter as the recuperating converter without additional filtering. The proposed converter is modeled with MATLAB/Simulink simulation software. It is then simulated with two potential modulation schemes, namely Phase-Shifted PWM (PS-PWM) and Phase-Disposition PWM (PD-PWM). The quality of AC waveforms produced by these two modulation methods is compared and studied. The results show that PS-PWM technique is preferable for this application as it offered a clean AC current waveform with less than 5% harmonic distortion. However, a twenty-one-level CHB was predicted to comply with the 8% voltage harmonic requirement.

Electric vehicle (EV) charging station powered by the scattered energy sources with DC Nanogrid (NG) provides an option for uninterrupted charging. The NG powered by the renewable energy sources (RES) of photovoltaic (PV) and wind energy. When the excess power produced by the renewable energy stored in the local energy storage unit (ESU) utilized during shortage power from the renewable sources. During the overloading of NG and demand of energy in ESU; the mobile charging station (MCS) provides an uninterrupted charging. The MCS provides an option for battery swapping and vehicle to grid feasibility. The MCS required to monitor the state of charge (SOC) and state of health (SOH) of the battery. Monitoring of SOC and SOH related to the various battery parameters like voltage, current and temperature. A laboratory prototype is developed and tested the practical possibility of EV to NG and Internet of things (IoT) based monitoring of battery parameters.

This paper discusses the Self Exitated induction Generator (SEIG) by approaching the induction machine, physically and mathematically which then transformed from three-phase frame abc to-axis frame, direct axis and quadratur-axis. Based on the reactive power demand of induction machine, capacitor mounted on the stator of the induction machine then do the physical and mathematical approach of the system to obtain a state space model. Underknown relationships, magnetization reactance and magnetizing current is not linear, so do mathematical approach to the magnetization reactance equation used in the calculation. Obtained state space model and the magnetic reactance equation is simulated by Runge kutta method of fourth order. The equation of reactance, is simulated by first using the polynomial equation and second using the exponent equation. The load voltage at d axis and q axis using the polynomial laggs 640µs to the exponent equation. The polynomial voltage magnetitude is less than 0.6068 volt from the exponent voltage magnitude

This paper presents performance analysis of 12Slot with various rotor pole numbers Hybrid Excitation Flux Switching Machine (HEFSM) for Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) application. HEFSM has carried out by combining the advantage of Permanent Magnet (PM) machines and DC Field Excitation Coil (FEC) synchronous machines. Previously, most of HEFSM structure having FEC windings in theta direction that create a problem of flux cancellation that will affect the performances of the machine. Thus, a design of 12Slot HEFSM with FEC wounded in radial direction is proposed to eliminate the flux cancellation effect. At first, armature coil arrangement test at no-load condition is conducted to analyze PM flux. Furthermore, induced voltage and cogging torque at open circuit condition are investigated based on 2D finite element analysis (FEA). Finally, torque and power performances are also examined at maximum FEC and armature current densities. The outcomes demonstrate that 12S-14P configuration has the highest PM flux linkage, torque, power and less distortion of back-emf waveform which are required to be used as a motor in HEVs. The highest torque and power achieved are 220.15Nm and 92.45kW, respectively.

This paper proposes a novel predictive control strategy for a multilevel inverter fed Induction Motor Drive (IMD) with optimal voltage vector selection at every sampling interval. The proposed predictive control strategy, apart from enhancing the dynamic speed and torque responses of the drive, strives to reduce the number of switching transitions by choosing optimal voltage vector, thereby reducing the switching losses significantly. The algorithm put forth here chooses the most suitable switching state among the redundant switching combinations, such that minimum number of switches change their states from the previous switching combination to the present one. This results in perceptible reduction in the switching losses thereby increasing the efficiency of the converter. The proposed Predictive Torque Control (PTC) strategy is modeled and simulated in Matlab/ Simulink environment and the results are reported for a 2-level and 3-level inverter fed IMD configurations. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed PTC for both 2-level and 3-level inverter fed IMDs.
