Abstract

The paper presents monitoring and assessment system of battery LiFePO4 performance that applied on a stand-alone photovoltaic system. A stand-alone photovoltaic system is constructed by photovoltaic module 50 Watt Peak, Pulse Width Modulation solar controller, battery module LiFePO4 battery (12 Volt 21 Ah), and street light 10 watt. To overcome the data acquisition, a simple monitoring system has been designed using LabVIEW Interface for Arduino. The voltage divider, current sensing type ACS712, temperature and humidity sensor, and light intensity sensor were used to collect the data. The data processed by a dual microcontroller (ATmega-2560 and ATmega-328) and LabVIEW software on Personal Computer. The assessment of stand-alone photovoltaic system includes battery LiFePO4 performance (State of Charge, voltage, and current) during charging and discharge condition, the power efficiency, and environmental condition (temperature, humidity and solar radiation). In the discharge condition, voltage battery and State of Charge decreased about 40% after 12 hours operated. In the charge condition, the current battery fluctuated in the range of 0.10 A-1.95 A and the State of Charge increased up to 25% after 8 hours operated. It indicates that the power of the battery has always lacked.

Abstract

This article estimates the unknown dc motor parameters by adapting the adaptive model with the reference model created by experimental data onto armature current and speed response from separately excited dc motor .The field flux dynamics, which is usually ignored, is included to model the dynamics of the motor. The block diagram including the flux dynamics and model parameters is considered as the adaptive model. The integral time square error between the instant experimental data and the corresponding adaptive model data is taken as cost function. The Whale optimization algorithm is used to minimize the cost function. Additionally, to improve the performances of optimization algorithm and for accurate result, the experimental data is divided into three intervals which form the three inequality constraints. A fixed penalty value is added to the cost function for violating these constraints. The effectiveness of estimation with two different methods is validated by convergence curve.

Abstract

Voltage sag has been considered to be a serious power quality problem faced by many utilities. Placement of custom power devices may prove to be an effective remedy for solving power quality problems. In this paper, an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) based approach for optimal placement of Distribution Static Synchronous Compensator (DSTATCOM), Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVR) and Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC) in a power system network has been considered to mitigate voltage sag under faults. Voltage sag under different type of short circuits has been estimated using MATLAB/SIMULINK software. Optimal location of custom power devices has been obtained using a feed forward neural network trained by post-fault voltage magnitude of three phases at different buses. A comparative performance of DSTATCOM, DVR and UPQC in voltage sag mitigation has been studied to select most effective controller out of three controllers for the system. Case studies have been performed on IEEE 14-bus system. The effectiveness of proposed approach of placement of custom power devices has been established on the test system considered. Abstract

In this paper an extensive comparative study is carried out between PI and PID controlled closed loop model of an adjustable speed Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) drive. The incorporation of Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) strategy establishes near sinusoidal armature phase currents and comparatively less torque ripples without sacrificing torque/weight ratio. In this closed loop model of PMSM drive, the information about reference speed is provided to a speed controller, to ensure that actual drive speed tracks the reference speed with ideally zero steady state speed error. The entire model of PMSM closed loop drive is divided into two loops, inner loop current and outer loop speed. By taking the different combinations of two classical controllers (PI & PID) related with two loop control structure, different approximations are carried out.  Hence a typical comparative study is introduced to familiar with the different performance indices of the system corresponding to time domain and frequency domain specifications. Therefore overall performance of closed loop PMSM drive is tested and effectiveness of controllers will be determined for different combinations.

Abstract

This project aims to develop dual axis solar tracker with IOT monitoring system using Arduino. Generally, solar energy is the technology to get useful energy from sunlight. Solar energy has been used in many traditional technologies over the centuries and has been widely used in the absence of other energy supplies. Its usefulness is widespread when awareness of the cost of the environment and the supply is limited by other energy sources such as fuel. The solar tracking system is the most effective technology to improve the efficiency of solar panels by tracking and following the sun's movement. With the help of this system, solar panels can improve the way of sunlight detection so that more electricity can be collected as solar panels can maintain a sunny position. Thus the project discusses the development of two-axis solar-tracking developers using Arduino Uno as main controller the system. For develops this project, four light-dependent resistors (LDRs) have been used for sunlight detection and a maximum light intensity. Two servo motors have been used to rotate the solar panel according to the sun's light source detected by the LDR. Next a WIFI ESP8266 device is used as an intermediary between device and IOT monitoring system. The IOT monitoring system is a website that functions to store data. The efficiency of this system has been tested and compared with a single axial solar tracker. As a result, the two-axis solar tracking system generates more power, voltage and current.

Abstract

Integrating photovoltaic based electricity into the grid and power quality improvement have become two major issues in electrical system. Formerly, these can be solved by using two converter systems separately, a PV-Grid System and an active power filter. But recent technology uses only a converter system to do both function. An existed shunt active power filter (SAPF) can be modified to form a dual-stage PV-Grid with active filtering capability. In this paper, a PV-Grid System that is capable to transfer all power generated by PV modules and reduce harmonic contents is proposed. The system was formed by connecting a boost chopper as a Maximum Power Point Tracker and PV modules to the DC-link capacitor of a single-phase SAPF. It just needed a current transducer and also required simpler control circuits. A voltage controller was needed to achieve power equilibrium while a current controller was needed to make the grid current sinusoidal with unity power factor. To verify the analysis, simulations and experiments were done.

Abstract

Interleaved Boost Converter (ILBC) is a better converter between Photo Voltaic(PV) source and shunt active power filter. This paper deals with comparison of time domain outputs of PI and Fractional Order PID(FOPID) controlled ILBC fed shunt active filter in a grid connected PV system. The aim of this work is to minimize current ripple using ILBC between PV system and filter to improve the dynamic performance of shunt active filter. Closed loop monitored PI and FOPID systems are modeled, and the corresponding results are presented. MATLAB results of load voltage, current, converter voltage and currents with FOPID exhibits enhanced dynamic response. The proposed FOPID controlled ILBC Fed Shunt Active Filter system (ILBCFSAF) has advantages like low settling time, less peak over shoot and reduced steady state error in load voltage. The simulation results of ILBCSAF are compared with the corresponding hardware results.

Abstract

Multilevel inverters are increasingly being used in high-power medium voltage industrial drive applications due to their superior performance compared to conventional two-level inverters. Thre are a number of Pulse width modulation (PWM) techniques applied in recent years. The most widely applied PWM techniques are Sine Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) and Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM).  SPWM is the most simple modulation technique that can realize easily in analog circuit.  However, it has some drawbacks such as higher total harmonic distortion (THD), lower effective DC utilization and lower switching frequency. Space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) is widely used because of their easier digital realization and better DC bus utilization and lower THD. The complexity is due to the difficulty in determining the reference vector location, on times calculation, and switching states selection. This paper presents a simple SVPWM algorithm for diode clamped three level inverters based on standard two-level SVPWM which can easily determine the location of reference vector, calculate the on-times, the selection of switching states. Three level diode clamped inverter (3LDCI) using space vector modulation technique has been modeled and simulated using MATLAB/SIMULINK and Origin 6.1 with a passive R-L load that can be extended to any level. Simulation results are presented to verify the proposed SVPWM control in terms of THD. The results are compared with conventional sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM) where SVPWM shows better performance than SPWM in terms of THD.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijpeds.v5i1.6038
