This research presents a very important industrial issue of controlling the production target, despite changing loads. Engines of various types, whether synchronous or synchronous, operate on single and three phase AC, DC motors or special motors such as stepper and servo. In all these motors, the speed control of the torque and speed of the above motors has gained considerable importance. There are three main ways reviewed in the current search, the second that completes the previous research referred to in the references. The three methods are PID method, LQR method and feeding –forward control methods. A real DC motor was used in electrical engineering machine laboratory at University of Diyala, Iraq. Where the actual parameters of the DC motor were actually calculated. The practical parameters were then integrated into the three control method Matlab codes for the purpose of comparing the results and representing the motor performance in the indicated control methods.

This paper investigates the vector control of a star-connected three-phase Induction Motor (IM) under stator winding open-phase fault. The used vector control method is based upon indirect rotor field-orientation concepts that have been adapted for this type of machine. Beside the implementation of this method in critical industrial applications, the proposed method in this paper can be used for vector control of unbalanced 2-phase or single-phase IM with two main and auxiliary windings. Simulation results are provided to show the operation of the proposed drive system.

This paper aims to design and simulate an Electrical Permanent Magnet Generator (EPMG) for rural area wind power plant. The generators available in the market mostly are a kind of high speed induction generator which requires high rotational speed and an electricity to generate a magnetic field. In this project, a radial flux generator is designed to have a low speed rotation using permanent magnet type Neodymium Iron Boron (NdFeB). Software used for designing is Finite Element Method (FEM) Magnet software basis. The model also examined with Simulink/Matlab environment. Extensive modifications are applied to get optimum result by changing generator diameter, number of coils, the copper wire diameter, number of poles, and used slots. The simulation results obtained generator speed 500rpm, the average series voltage is 145 Vrms, the generator requires 18cm diameter, number of turn for each coil is 55, diameter of the copper wire used is 0.6mm, and number of poles is 8 pairs and 12 unit slots.

This paper presents artificial intelligence approach of artificial neural network (ANN) and random forest (RF) that used to perform short-term photovoltaic (PV) output current forecasting (STPCF) for the next 24-hours. The input data for ANN and RF is consists of multiple time lags of hourly solar irradiance, temperature, hour, power and current to determine the movement pattern of data that have been denoised by using wavelet decomposition. The Levenberg-Marquardt optimization technique is used as a back-propagation algorithm for ANN and the bagging based bootstrapping technique is used in the RF to improve the results of forecasting. The information of PV output current is obtained from Green Energy Research (GERC) University Technology Mara Shah Alam, Malaysia and is used as the case study in estimation of PV output current for the next 24-hours. The results have shown that both proposed techniques are able to perform forecasting of future hourly PV output current with less error.

The analysis of a carrier-based PWM two level voltage source inverter for a nine phase induction machine drive system is presented in this paper. Methods for generating zero-sequence signals during balanced and unbalanced condition are established. Simulation results for the analysis are presented. Two fault conditions involving the voltage source inverter and the nine-phase squirrel cage induction machine load are investigated. For the two fault scenarios considered, the effects on the performance characteristics of the induction machine load are highlighted. The simulation results obtained show that the two imbalance conditions considered result in substantial oscillations on the electromagnetic torque of the machine with attendant reduction in the torque rating. There is also large slip in the rotor speed.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijpeds.v5i1.6175

This paper presents a circuit configuration of five-level PWM voltage-source inverter developed from the three-level H-bridge inverter using only a single DC input power source. In the proposed five-level inverter, an auxiliary circuits working as the voltage balancing circuits of the inverter’s DC capacitors is presented. The auxiliary circuits work to keep stable DC capacitor voltages of the inverter, and also to reduce the capacitor size of the inverter. The unique point of the proposed balancing circuits is that it needs only a single voltage sensor to control the voltages of the two capacitors in the inverter. Moreover, a minimum number the inverter’s switching devices is also an important feature of the proposed inverter topology. A simple proportional integral controller is applied to control the voltage of the DC capacitors. The proposed topology is tested through computer simulation using PSIM software. Laboratory experimental tests were also conducted to verify the proposed inverter circuits. The computer simulation and experimental test results showed that the proposed balancing circuits works properly keeping stable voltages across the two DC capacitors of the inverter using only a single voltage sensor. The inverter also works well to synthesize a five-level PWM voltage waveform with sinusoidal load current.

It is known that controlling the speed of a three phase Induction Motor (IM) under different operating conditions is an important task and this can be accomplished through the process of controlling the applied voltage on its stator circuit. Conventional Proportional- Integral- Differeantional (PID) controller takes long time in selecting the error signal gain values. In this paper a hybrid Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) with Genetic Algorithm (GA) is proposed to reduce the selected time for the optimized error signal gain values and as a result inhances the controller and system performance. The proposed controller FL with GA is designed, modeled and simulated using MATLAB/ software under different load torque motor operating condition. The simulation result shows that the closed loop system performance efficiency under the controller has a maximum value of 95.92%. In terms of efficiency and at reference speed signal of 146.53 rad/sec, this system performance shows an inhancement of 0.67%,0.49% and 0.05% with respect to the closed loop system efficiency performance of the PID, FL, and PID with GA controllers respectively. Also the simulation result of the well designed and efficient GA in speeding up the process of selecting the gain values, makes the system to have an efficiency improvement of 14.42% with respect to the open loop system performance.

This paper proposes a control strategy of generating a rotor flux amplitude reference for Doubly Fed Induction Machine (DFIM) based wind turbines. In addition to that a Direct Torque Control (DTC) strategy that provides fast dynamic response accompanies the overall control of the wind turbine. It is specially designed to address perturbations, such as voltage dips, keeping controlled the torque of the wind turbine, considerably reducing the stator and rotor over currents during faults. Despite the fact that the proposed control does not totally eliminate the necessity of the typical crowbar protection for this kind of turbines, it eliminates the activation of this protection during low depth voltage dips.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijpeds.v2i4.710

Self Excited induction generators are used in remote places for electrical power generation from both conventional as well as non-conventional sources. An Induction generator can operate as a capacitor excited machine provided the machine is driven beyond synchronous speed and a suitable capacitor is connected across its terminals. In this paper a technique has been proposed to estimate the values of excitation capacitances to maintain desired terminal voltages in a multi-phase induction generator. A mathematical model using nodal admittance technique of a six-phase induction generator has been analyzed. Genetic algorithm technique is applied here to obtain the unknown parameters and the capacitance requirements to obtain desired terminal voltages under various operating conditions.

In this paper the analytical comparison of brushless DC (BLDC) motor drive with proportional integral (PI) and fuzzy logic controller (FLC) based speed controllers is estimated. Proportional integral (PI) has disadvantages like it do not operate properly when the system has a high degree of load disturbances. In recent years, the application of fuzzy logic controller (FLC) for high dynamic performance of motor drives has become an important tool. FLC is a good for load disturbances and can be easily implemented. The modeling and simulation of both the speed controllers have been made by MATLAB/SIMULINK. The dynamic characteristics of the BLDC motor (speed and torque) response, obtained under PI and Fuzzy logic based speed controller, are compared for various operating condition.
