Abstract

Permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) is the most reliable and efficient machine that widely used in robotics and automation, industrial applications, electric vehicles, home appliances, aircraft and aerospace technology due to its high efficiency, good dynamic performance and high torque density. In this paper, the influence of various types of winding configuration and different magnetization patterns in the performance of a five-phase PMSM is investigated. Three types of magnetization patterns such as radial magnetization (RM), parallel magnetization (PaM), and multi-segmented Halbach magnetization (SH) are applied to the five-phase 10-slot/4-pole PMSM during open-circuit and on-load conditions. A 2D finite element method (FEM) is intensively used in this investigation to model and predict the electromagnetic characteristics and performance of the PMSM. The detailed results from the finite-element analysis (FEA) on the cogging torque, induced back-emf, airgap flux density and electromagnetic torque are analysed. The induced back-emf of the machine is computed further into its harmonic distortions. Additionally, the skewing method for minimization of cogging torque of PMSM is proposed. From the results, it is observed that the five-phase, 10-slot/4-pole PMSM with double layer distributed winding and parallel magnetization gives the best machine performance.

Abstract

The CO2 emission level is becoming a serious issue worldwide. The continuous increase in gasoline price forms the essential base of development of electric vehicle (EV) drives. Moreover, economic and environmental issues relate to fabrication and operation of traditional powered vehicles. The basic considerations and development perspectives of EVs are presented in this paper. The development of an efficiently designed motor and drive satisfy the need of efficient characteristics that enable EVs to perform as part of the propulsion unit. The use of digital signal controllers compared with conventional control systems minimizes the motor’s total harmonic distortion, lowers operating temperatures, and produces high efficiency and power factor ratings. This paper addresses the view of EV technology as well its advantages over other technologies.

Abstract

This paper presents the three-phase CHB inverter fed induction motor suitable for renewable energy source applications. Normally, all present existing multilevel inverters produce multilevel output, but the number of components required is more, bulk in size, more in cost. Which are more burdens to small capacity renewable sources. These challenges are eliminated in CHB inverter. This CHB mainly consisting of one DC source, one capacitor and eight switches in each phase. To generate a five-level output in phase to ground voltage, it is required to maintain the capacitor voltage (V2) at fifty percent of the DC source voltage (V1). This capacitor voltage is regulated by a sensor less voltage regulating technique. The sensor less voltage regulation works without any sensor devices. We can implement this technique with very less cost compared to other techniques. The sensor less voltage regulation is realized by level-shifted sinusoidal pulse width modulation. The simulation results show a very good dynamic performance. Controller maintains the capacitor voltage at fifty percent of the source voltage irrespective of main source voltage changes and load changes. Inverter generates a five-level wave at the output from line to ground and seven-level wave from line to line with fewer Harmonic. It is implemented in matlab/simulink and showing good dynamic performance.

Abstract

This paper presents the verification of soft switching condition for three-phase AC to DC current injection hybrid resonant converter (CIHRC) with wireless power transfer (WPT) function. Details on the operation of current injection technique with the lossless zero voltage switching (ZVS) condition on shaping the high power factor of supply current waveforms are presented. With a suitable high switching frequency operation, the proposed resonant converter is capable to operate with ZVS conditions, thus, allowing reduction in the size of inductive and magnetic components. Selected results are also presented to verify the lossless ZVS condition for three-phase AC-DC CIHRC with WPT function.

Abstract

This study focused on the special High Voltage Direct Current technology. The context is given by combining two original solutions; the first solution, using a natural harmonic cancellation, consists to connect in series two classical frequency inverters which are coupled to the grid through a specific transformer connection.  On the other hand, the second solution is achieved by using three, five or more level converters in square wave modulation, in order to eliminate some selective harmonics by optimizing a switching angle. The simulation and experimental results indicate that the proposed High Voltage Direct Current transmission systems offer high efficiency, unity power factor and better current and voltage quality with fewer harmonic.

Abstract

This paper discusses about direct torque control of Brushless DC motor by injecting the triangular waveform and using PI controller in order to reduce the torque and obtain constant switching frequency. Brushless DC motor are widely used in applications which require wide range of speed and torque control because of robust, longer lifespan, faster torque response and able to operate at high speed.  Unlike conventional three phase DTC of induction machine (IM),the proposed DTC approach introduces two phase conduction mode. Besides that, the magnitude flux is considered constant in which the results only gains from constant torque region. Thus, the flux control loop is eliminated while implement this scheme. Using the triangular waveform that will be compare with actual torque, the proper switching pattern can be selected to control the generated torque and reducing commutation torque ripple. The torque response depends on the speed of the stator flux linkage which is directly controlled by selecting appropriate voltage space vectors from a look-up table to make sure the torque error within the band. The validity of the proposed control scheme for constant switching frequency and reduce torque ripple are verified through simulation and experimental results.

Abstract

The process of crystallization occurred due to the process of charging and discharging during the usage of the Nickel-Cadmium (Ni-Cd) battery where crystalline formed on the surface of the battery plate. This situation causes the impedance of the Ni-Cd battery increased and contribute to the increment of the battery temperature and battery impedance. High battery temperature will cause the performance of Ni-Cd battery deteriorates. Therefore, this study is investigated on the performance of industrial Ni-Cd battery during the process of crystallization and de-crystallization with high current pulses. By this technique, it is capable to break the formed crystalline to recover back the capacity loss and enhanced the performance of Ni-Cd battery. Therefore, the study results shown that the life cycles and capacity of the Ni-Cd battery increased up to 41% of its capacity after the de-crystallization take place by injecting high current pulses. Consequently, the life span of the Nickel-Cadmium battery enhanced, and the battery is revived.

Abstract

Multilevel Inverters offers eminent solutions to high voltage high power applications due to the association of several devices in a series configuration. This is moderate because of getting superior quality voltage waveform when using multilevel inverters as compared to form two-level inverters. Most of the problems raised in this study are the restriction of many switching devices, which can afford high voltage are preferred in the inverter. Here, a novel multilevel inverter topology with no transformers, less number of switching devices and gate drive circuits are proposed. The proposed inverter topologies can valid more voltage levels with favorable advantages such as less number of switching devices and gate driving circuits and also reduce to humble size, agreeable voltage profile. In this paper multilevel converter fed BLDC drive with different voltage levels and simulation analysis is presented. The validity of the proposed three-phase 21-level multilevel inverter fed to BLDC motor drive scheme is verified through Matlab/Simulink Platform.
