Abstract

Research on the effect of roselle calyx ethanol extract (Hibiscus sabdariffa Linn) on  the levels of LDL female white mice have been done. The extract was administered orally with a variety doses 500, 700 and 1000 mg /kg bw once daily for 7, 14 and 21 days.  as a negative control group using white female mice were given standard diet, while the positive control were given  atherogenic cocktail as induction . The results showed that the ethanol extract of roselle calyx apparently have a significant effect on levels of LDL blood cholesterol of female white mice. dose of 28 mg/20 g bw showed reduced blood levels of LDL cholesterol better than a dose of 14 mg/20g bw  and 19.6/20g bw. Based on further test duncan, reduced levels of LDL cholesterol on day 21 showed excellent results compared to most day 7th and 14th.

Abstract

Research on the effect of ethanol extract of pecut kuda (Stachytarpheta jamaicensis (L) Vahl) against liver and kidney function in male white mice have been done. Extracts administered orally with various doses of 150, 300 and 600 mg / kg bw once daily for 15, 30 and of 45 days. As a control group used white males mice who were given only 0.5% Na CMC. Activity SGPT and SGOT, creatinine clearance, renal function and the percentage ratio of organ weight were measured. The result showed that the extract at given doses effects liver function (p<0.05) and not effects  the urinary creatinine levels (p> 0.05)

Abstract

Sodium alginate was isolated from brown algae (Sargassum crassifoluim Mont) which  collected from Sungai Nipah Beach West Sumatera using Na2CO3 3% for 5 days at a temperature of 50C. Filtrate obtained then added with 8% CaCl2 solution with variation in leght of maceration for t is 3, 5 and 7 days. Sodium generated per each long imaceration  was 14:08%, 26.67% and 30.56%. The results showed that with increasing in macerating time, the yield obtained sodium alginate will also increase. Highest contain obtained from 7 days maceration. Sodium alginat obtained then  characterized that includes checking the purity, particle size determination, development index, examination IR spectra, viscosity and flow properties

Abstract

Research on the dissolution profile of paracetamol by using a combination of polymer mucoadhesive hydroxypropyl methylcelulloce (HPMC) and sodium alginate has been done. This study aimed to see the effect of the combination of polymer HPMC and Sodium Alginate on the dissolution profile of paracetamol mucoadhesive. in this study were made four formula granule containing 100 grams of acetaminophen as an active ingredient and combination of HPMC with sodium alginate with various concentrations: 50 grams of sodium alginate (F1), 40 grams of sodium alginate and 10 grams of HPMC (F2), 30 grams of sodium alginate and 20 grams of HPMC (F3) and 50 grams of HPMC (F4), where Avicel PH 102 is used as a filler. The resulting granules are evaluated which include : content level,  dissolution profile and test bioadhesif granules. Dissolution profiles performed by the method of rowing in the  900 mL medium of pH 5.8 buffer fosphat, 37±0.5°C and a speed of 50 rotation/min. The measurement results at minute 60 shows that the average granule dissolution F1, F2, F3 and F4 are 8.8341%, 9.2838%, 12.9828% and 17.2589% respectively. The Conclusion is the combination of paracetamol mucoadhesive polymers HPMC with sodium alginate showed an influence on the dissolution profile of paracetamol, where F1 formula shows the best dissolution profiles among the other four formulas.

Abstract

Flavonoid compounds have been isolated from guajava leaf from 100 grams of dried samples of guava leaf  were obtained liquid extract 130 mL, n-hexane fraction as much as 1.65 g, 1.95 g of chloroform fraction, fraction of 1.87 g ethyl acetate, butanol fraction of 2.15 g, and the remaining fraction as much as 28.96 g and flavonoid A as much as 36.9 mg. Flavonoid A is a yellow amorph form and decompose at a temperature of 190-192 C. Based on ultraviolet spectrum with various reagents shear and infrared spectrum, these compounds are known as flavonol-3-O-diglukosida. Flavonoids A provide antioxidant activity with the percent inhibition of 85.364% ± 0.2073%, while the flavonoid B 68.160%, ± 0.2073.

Abstract

The quantitation of some minerals such as iron, zinc, magnese, acidity measurament and bacteriological analysis from same refilling water samples which are collected in Siteba, Padang has been done. Mineral measurement was done by Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS). Acidy measurement done by acidy meter, and it’s bacteriological analysis done by using MPN (Most Probable Number) method. The result showed iron quantity from sample A, B, and C are 0,0615 mg/L; 0,0745 mg/L; 0,0747 mg/L respectively. It’szink quantity are 0.0110 mg/L; 0.0078 mg/L; 0.0110 mg/L respectively. Its magnese quantity is 0.0228 mg/L; 0 mg/L; 0 mg/L respectively. It’s acidy levels are 6.50; 6.61; 7.00. Its bacteriological number (Escherichia coli) is 5/100 mL; 0/100 mL; 96/100 mL. It showed that sample A and C have not complied the water qualification of public health RI. No. 907/MENKES/SK/VII/2002 in bactriological compounds.

Abstract

A Qualitative analysis of nitrite and nitrate preservative and analysis of protein content in sausage fast food foundedin some markets in Padang has been done. The preservative in samples were extracted by mixing with water, and then identified by colour reaction. Analysis of preservative in samples was compared with standard preservative substance. From the identification, all samples contain preservative agent, nitrite and nitrate. Micro Kjehdahl method used to analysed protein in samples. The result showed that from each samples contained. Protein content 16.5% for samples A; 17.6% for samples B and 8.31% for samples C.

Abstract

The study on paracetamol microencapsulation by solvent evaporation method using hidroxy prophyl methil celluloce (HPMC) as a polimer has been done. The paracetamol Quantitation by UV spectrofotometer at 243 nm, using phosphate buffer pH 5,8 as the dissolution medium. The result showed that 1st formula’s dissolution rate is higher than 2nd and 3nd formulas, because the HPMC content of those formula are higher than the 1st formula, so paracetamol as a core are coored thicker, so that lower in drug rate releasing. The kinetic releasing mechanism of active ingredient from the microcapsule following the zero order, first order and Higuchi equation.

Abstract

Research on central nervous system stimulant activity of the ethanol extract of Cinnamomum zeylanicum Blume bark against female white mice with different levels of doses have been done. Testing done by observing the immune system by using a rotary road test, motor activity and sensory observations using automatic tool hole board, and observation of sleep and long sleep induction. Phenobarbital 50 mg / kg bw used as inducted . Preliminary trials showed that the ethanol extract of Cinnamomum zeylanicum blume with a dose of 500 mg / kg bw had an effect on the central nervous system. Whereas at the specific testing, the effect on the central nervous looks at a dose of 250 mg / kg bw, which showed a statistically significant difference compared with the control group of animals (P <0.05).
