Abstract

The mastery of adjectives in French is a crucial aspect of forming grammatical and meaningful sentences. However, learners of French as a foreign language often experience difficulties, particularly in gender and number agreement as well as adjective placement. This study aims to analyze the level of mastery of French adjectives and to identify the types of difficulties and factors contributing to errors among A2-level students in the French Language Education Program at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia. This study employs a sequential explanatory mixed-method design, integrating quantitative and qualitative data. Quantitative data were obtained through an 82-item paper-based written test, while qualitative data were collected through open- and closed-ended questionnaire items. All data were analyzed descriptively based on the framework of French adjective grammar proposed by Grevisse (2008). The findings indicate that most students achieved a good level of proficiency, with an average score of 76, and demonstrated an understanding of basic adjective functions. Nevertheless, frequent errors were found in gender and number agreement, adjective placement, and particularly in the use of l’adjectif indéfini, which showed the highest error rate. These results suggest the need for instructional practices that emphasize explicit explanations of adjective agreement and placement, accompanied by contextualized exercises specifically targeting the mastery of l’adjectif indéfini.

Abstract

This study examines the myth structure in Ramdani Abdul's digital novel Kafan Hitam through the perspective of Levi-Strauss's Structuralism. Unlike previous studies that focused on myths in oral traditions, this study applies Levi-Strauss's structural framework to a 198-chapter digital novel corpus on the GoodNovel platform. This study aims to identify the mythemes and binary oppositions that shape the pattern of mythic meaning in the story. The method used is qualitative descriptive with an in-depth search of the 198 novel chapters published on the GoodNovel platform. The data were analyzed by grouping the mythemes into four myth structures, the results of the study indicate that the most dominant cosmological structure (34 myths) significantly exceeds the geographical (8), sociological (10), and techno-economic (7) structures. It shows the relationship between humans and supernatural powers as the center of horror construction and local cultural representation. These findings indicate that Levi-Strauss's structural model remains productive beyond oral traditions and is capable of analyzing myths in contemporary digital literary platforms.

Abstract

This study investigates deixis in the Lauje language from a sociopragmatic perspective, focusing on its forms, functions, and relationship with social factors in natural interaction. The research aims to identify the types of deixis used in Lauje and to explain how social variables influence their selection in everyday communication. The study employs a qualitative descriptive method using naturally occurring speech data collected from native Lauje speakers in Ogoansam Village, Palasa District, Parigi Moutong Regency, Central Sulawesi. Data were obtained through participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and audio recordings of spontaneous conversations. The analysis reveals that the Lauje language exhibits a comprehensive deixis system, encompassing person, place, time, discourse, and social deixis. Person and social deixis display significant variation in response to speakers’ age, social status, and degree of interpersonal closeness, reflecting norms of politeness and social hierarchy within the Lauje community. Place and time deixis function to anchor utterances within specific spatial and temporal contexts, while discourse deixis contributes to coherence and continuity in interaction. These findings demonstrate that deixis in Lauje functions not only as a referential linguistic device but also as a sociocultural strategy for managing social relations, maintaining interactional harmony, and expressing cultural identity. This study contributes to sociopragmatic research on minority languages and supports efforts in linguistic documentation and language preservation.

Abstract

Sawér Pangantén is a form of Sundanese oral literature that serves as a medium for advice and prayer in wedding ceremonies.  This study aims to reveal the denotative, connotative, and mythical meanings in Sawér Pangantén texts and the cultural values they contain. Previous studies have primarily emphasized the normative function of this tradition and have not positioned sawér as an ideological mechanism that shapes and normalizes social perceptions of marriage. This research employs a qualitative approach using textual analysis based on Roland Barthes’ semiotics. The data consist of a sixteen-stanza Sawér Pangantén text obtained through recorded oral narration from a native informant in Cisewu, Garut Regency, and subsequently transcribed verbatim. The analysis was conducted stanza by stanza by mapping the relationship between signifier and signified (denotation), cultural meaning (connotation), and second-order signification (myth) that naturalizes ideology. The findings reveal four axes of the myth of marriage: the social legitimation of husband-wife status, orientation toward well-being and harmonious prosperity, divine and ancestral legitimation, and an ethic of sacred caution articulated through prayer. At the level of myth, marriage is legitimized as a sacred institution aligned with divine will and accepted as a naturalized social order within Sundanese society.

Abstract

The action of rejecting the DPR allowances has sparked a variety of perspectives in media coverage, one of which is reflected in the language used to report on the protests. This study aims to analyze the language used by detik.com in framing the rejection of DPR allowances and explain how the use of language shapes certain meanings and biases in news coverage. This study uses a qualitative approach with data collection techniques in the form of documentation and note-taking. The data consists of five detik.com news articles that were purposively selected related to the rejection of the DPR allowance during the period of August 25—30. The analysis was conducted by classifying language elements (diction, phrases, clauses, sentences, coherence, and themes) based on Pan and Kosicki's four framing structures (syntax, script, thematic, and rhetorical). The results of the study show the dominance of the use of diction that implies rioting, the composition of titles that emphasize chaos, and narratives that focus on the destructive actions of the masses so that in the news, the action is framed as rioting in public spaces. This study concludes that the five news reports not only use language as a tool to communicate reality, but also symbolically to construct and delegitimize the action of rejecting the DPR allowance through negative framing in their reporting. These findings enrich the application of Pan and Kosicki's framing model in the analysis of political media discourse in Indonesia and are expected to serve as material for reflection for journalists in their use of language and in constructing balanced narrative structures so as not to appear to delegitimize social protest actions.

Abstract

This study rigorously evaluates the content, construct, and criterion validity of an assessment instrument designed for negotiation text analysis. Employing a quantitative descriptive methodology, data were triangulated through classroom observations, pedagogical document analysis, and performance assessments involving 20 tenth-grade students. Findings demonstrate that the instrument exhibits robust content validity, aligning systematically with national curriculum standards. Regarding construct validity, expert panels yielded high ratings (scores 8–10), although items 2 and 5 required revisions due to identified explicit answer cues. Furthermore, criterion validity confirmed adherence to technical and ethical assessment standards, despite noted redundancies in the response options for items 8 and 9. All participants surpassed the minimum proficiency threshold of 70, with peak scores reaching 100. In conclusion, the instrument is categorized as valid and highly suitable for evaluating analytical competence, following minor refinements to specific items. This validation not only strengthens theoretical perspectives on multidimensional validity in language assessment but also offers practical guidelines for teachers in designing fair and curriculum-aligned negotiation text assessments in Indonesian senior high schools.

Abstract

Humor has evolved from mere entertainment into a therapeutic tool for alleviating psychological burdens. This study examines humor as an ego defense mechanism in Risa Saraswati's novel Jurnal Risa: Mamat Ujang, employing Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic framework (id, ego, and superego). The research is driven by the rising prevalence of psychological disorders in society, while existing studies indicate humor's role in stress reduction though these findings require more robust empirical validation. The study aims to develop a theoretical framework for humor's self-defense function in the traumatic experiences of characters Mamat and Ujang, analyzing its role within Freud's personality structure and Morrison's humor theory. The methodology combines descriptive qualitative research with literary psychology. The study employs ten narrative excerpts and dialogues between the characters Mamat and Ujang, blending humor with traumatic experiences. Through close reading and interpretive analysis, it examines humor's role as an ego-defense mechanism and psychological regulator. The findings reveal distinct defense strategies in both characters when confronting inner conflicts. For both, humor serves to process negative emotions fear, shame, and guilt into laughter. The study concludes that ego-defense mechanisms are not limited to human characters but also manifest through ghost characters with unique psychodynamic functions. By framing humor as a defense mechanism for trauma processing, this research offers a fresh perspective on literary psychology.

Abstract

Although satire, roasting, and humor in digital media have attracted growing scholarly attention, most existing studies examine these phenomena in entertainment settings, general social media discourse, or broad communication contexts. By contrast, pasemon, a culturally grounded form of Javanese indirect satire, has largely been studied in relation to offline interaction, politeness, and everyday speech. Its role in digitally mediated religious discourse therefore remains underexplored. This study addresses that gap by investigating how pasemon operates in KH. Anwar Zahid’s digital da'wah on YouTube, with specific reference to the video “Kapolda Jateng Kena Roasting” on the Anza channel. Drawing on a sociolinguistic perspective and employing a qualitative descriptive design, the study analyzes utterances containing pasemon transcribed from a 1-hour-44-minute-55-second video. Data were collected through uninvolved observation and note-taking and examined using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model of analysis. The findings demonstrate that pasemon is organized through a three-part discourse structure consisting of an opening, a body, and a closing. Linguistically, it is realized through honorific and double forms of address, satirical humor, hyperbole, and lexical repetition, especially in references to institutional authority and moral-religious imagery. These features allow criticism to be conveyed indirectly while preserving respect, solidarity, and audience acceptability. The study contributes to international sociolinguistic discussions on indirectness, satire, and digital discourse by demonstrating how a local communicative practice is recontextualized and sustained in contemporary online religious communication.

Abstract

Previous studies on Moodle use in higher education have generally treated students as a homogeneous group, thereby overlooking potential variations in perceptions across cohorts with different learning experiences. This study addresses this gap by examining cohort-based differences in student perceptions of Moodle use in German language learning through the framework of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). Specifically, this study investigates differences in perceptions among students of the German Language Education Study Program at FPBS UPI based on four TAM constructs: perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, attitude toward using, and behavioral intention. Data were collected through a questionnaire involving 246 students from four cohorts and analyzed using descriptive and comparative statistical approaches. The results indicate statistically significant differences at the global level in perceived usefulness and behavioral intention; however, the effect sizes were small, suggesting that the variations were limited in practical terms. Further analysis reveals that differences in perceived usefulness primarily involve the 2019 cohort in comparison with the 2020 and 2021 cohorts, while no significant differences were found across cohort pairs for the other constructs. These findings suggest that variations in student perceptions across cohorts are more closely related to evaluations of system usefulness rather than ease of use or attitudes toward Moodle. Therefore, Moodle development should focus on pedagogical integration that is adaptive to differences in cohort experiences, such as providing usage support for early cohorts and optimizing interactive learning activities for more experienced cohorts.

Abstract

Previous studies on tembang macapat have generally focused on moral, cultural, and educational values. However, research that positions tembang macapat as a  as a medium of political representation and contique remains limited. Therefore, this study fills this gap by analyzing the uran-uran Semut Ireng as a symbolic reflection of the socio-political dynamics of Javanese society. This analysis employs Roland Barthes’ semiotic theory, which examines tembang through poetic structures by analyzing the meanings of the lyrics at three levels: denotative, connotative, and myth namely the second level of marking that displays the ideology of power and leadership as if it were something natural.. Adopting a qualitative descriptive design, the study analyzes transcribed and translated lyrics of uran-uran Semut Ireng taken from selected YouTube performances. The analysis identifies signifiers and signifieds in each line, then reconstructs their denotative, connotative, and mythological meanings to explain how the song functions as a medium for political messaging. The results indicate that semut ireng represents the common people who possess the courage to voice criticism, while the ideal leader is portrayed through Javanese leadership values that uphold justice and political balance. The study shows how past socio-political realities are rearticulated in uran-uran Semut Ireng, making it relevant today as a medium of reflection and socio-political criticism grounded in local wisdom.
