Abstract

Rock climbing is a form of mountaineering that involves navigating steep cliffs, making it a physically demanding and extreme sport. Introduced in Indonesia in the 1970s, it has evolved from local expeditions to international competitions, gaining popularity among youth and adventure seekers. The sport requires both physical prowess and mental agility, blending strength, strategy, and safety. This paper explores the fundamental aspects of rock climbing, focusing on climbing techniques, necessary equipment, and the importance of safety. The objectives are to provide a comprehensive understanding of the sport, highlight its physical and mental benefits, and promote it as a fulfilling and educational activity. These benefits include enhanced physical strength, improved coordination, cognitive skill development, and boosted self-confidence. Data collection involved field observations of rock climbing environments and routes to capture the technical challenges and strategies used by climbers. Interviews with experienced climbers provided valuable insights into their experiences, techniques, and psychological approaches to overcoming obstacles. These qualitative methods allowed for a deeper understanding of the sport's physical, emotional, and technical dimensions. The analysis of the data highlights the sport’s rising international recognition, including its presence in the Olympics. It also underscores the cultural significance of rock climbing in Indonesia and the strategic role it plays in physical and mental development. This paper concludes by advocating for the growth of rock climbing as a popular and enriching sport, with the potential to positively influence personal development.

Abstract

Purposes—This study aims to increase students' fiction analysis by integrating Quizizz media into the Project-Based Learning model. It explores how this combination fosters engagement, critical thinking, and literary comprehension, particularly in analyzing the main elements, such as plot, theme, setting, and moral/ message.Methodology- This study used mixed-method approaches, combining quantitative analysis and test results, a questionnaire, and qualitative knowledge from interviews with the teacher. This study was conducted in SMP Negeri 4 Palu, involving 32 students from the eighth grade. The students are selected from stratified random sampling. The data-collecting instrument consisted of a fiction test analysis, a questionnaire, and a Likert scale on engagement and motivation. In contrast, a semi-structured questionnaire was given to the teachers, and an expert and statistical analysis assessment confirmed the validity and reliability of the test.Findings- Integrating quizzes in the PBL framework significantly increases the students' comprehension of fictional analysis, with an average score of 91,94%, which is categorized as high competency. The highest proficiency level score belongs to theme (100%) and morel/message (100%), meanwhile plot (84%) and characterization (81%) pose a bigger challenge. Teacher interviews highlight the variability of students' comprehension, engagement disparity, and resource accessibility problems as influencing factors. Quizizz gamified games, instant feedback, competitive quizzes, and interactive engagement were found to motivate students and improve their understanding of the literary concept.Significance—This study bridges the gap in the research by evaluating the empirical integration of gamification and PBL in literary education. This finding contributes to the pedagogical improvement of digital learning, showing how interactive and student-centered approaches can improve high-level thinking skills in fraction analysis. This study also highlights the importance of teachers' facilities, fair technology access, and strategic guidance instruments in maximizing learning outcomes,

Abstract

Purpose – This study aims to evaluate the implementation of the Structural Analytic Synthetic (SAS) method in teaching beginning reading within the context of 21st-century skills, particularly during online learning environments prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic. It examines the extent to which first-grade teachers effectively apply the SAS method and align their instructional practices with the demands of modern literacy education.Methodology – This study employed a quantitative descriptive research design using a survey method. This research aims to analyze the extent to which teachers apply the Structural Analytic Synthetic (SAS) method in beginning reading instruction within the framework of 21st-century learning, particularly during the implementation of online learning in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 35 respondents were selected through a probability sampling technique, specifically using simple random sampling, and the sample size was determined based on the Krejcie and Morgan table at a 95% confidence level. The data collection techniques used in this study were questionnaires, structured interviews, and documentation.Findings – The findings of this study indicate that the implementation of the Structural Analytic Synthetic (SAS) method in teaching beginning reading during online learning has been generally successful, particularly in the context of 21st-century education. Teachers demonstrated a good level of mastery in applying the SAS method, as evidenced by consistent improvements in each observed session and positive responses from parents. The integration of 21st-century competencies—such as critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration—was evident in teachers' instructional practices despite the challenges posed by the sudden transition to online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic.Contribution – This study contributes to improving early reading skills in first-grade students and offers a classroom strategy to enhance student reading comprehension outcomes.

Abstract

Purpose—This study investigates the effectiveness of integrating the Snake and Ladder game as a gamified learning medium to enhance students' engagement and creativity in poetry writing. The study discusses the limitations of the traditional teacher-centered approach, which often fails to involve students or foster creativity, by proposing a gamified strategy specifically designed for middle school learners.   Methodology- Using a qualitative case study, this study was conducted on 28 students of the eighth grade at class VIII-A, SMP Negeri 1 Banawa Tengah, Sulawesi Tengah, Indonesia. This study involved two learning sessions where students were involved in a modified Snakes and Ladders game, which combined the tasks related to the poetry, such as composing verses and identifying poetic devices—the data collected from class observation, students’ poetry submissions, and teacher reflections. Thematic analysis measured students' engagement, creativity, and collaborative outcomes.Findings- The findings show that 70% of students actively engaged and showed creative expression in their poetry, integrating the main elements of poetry effectively. There are 25% who show creativity, even in the face of a lack of engagement in the game, while 5% actively engage in the game but find it challenging to compose poetry. This study highlights the potential of gamified learning to grow teamwork, critical thinking, and a dynamic learning atmosphere, transforming poetry writing from a passive task and a monotone to an interactive and fun experience.Contribution—This study contributes to the growing number of gamified learning in education and its impact on poetry writing. It offers valuable knowledge for educators, curriculum designers, and policy makers, showing the adaptability of gamified learning in the diverse context of education and providing a replicable model to be integrated creatively into poetry writing tasks in language learning.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are essential skills of the 21st century which are very important for students to master. Unfortunately, some research results show students' low critical thinking skills. One important component that supports the teaching of critical thinking for students is learning tools. The results of the preliminary study show the lack of learning tools that are oriented towards students' scientific activities so that it is suspected to be the cause of students' low critical thinking skills. This study aims to evaluate the validity of inquiry-based biology learning tools that can explicitly be used to teach critical thinking skills. This research is descriptive-evaluative research because it only evaluates the results of expert judgment on the validity of the developed learning tools. Two validators with professor qualifications were involved in this study to evaluate the validity of the product using the validation sheet instrument. The results showed that the learning tools developed in the form of lesson plans, learning materials, student worksheets, and critical thinking ability tests were generally stated to be valid (score = 3.65) and reliable (score = 0.93) used to teach students' critical thinking skills in system teaching materials Respiratory. Further research related to the practicality test and the effectiveness of the resulting device needs to be carried out in further research
