Abstract

During the climacteric period, there is a decline in ovarian function and hormone production. The decrease in estrogen hormone often causes vasomotor symptoms, especially hot flashes, which can disrupt daily activities and reduce the quality of life of menopausal women. The use of foods containing phytoestrogens, such as soybeans and mung beans, has become one of the non-pharmacological therapy alternatives that is considered safer to help reduce these symptoms. This study aims to determine the difference in the effectiveness of administering soybean extract and mung bean extract on the reduction of hot flash symptoms in menopausal women. This study uses a quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest with non-control design. The study was conducted at Pratama Cahaya 2 Clinic in January–February 2026. The study sample consisted of 36 menopausal women selected using purposive sampling technique. The respondents were divided into two intervention groups, namely the group given soybean extract and the group given mung bean extract, each 250 ml per day for 14 days. Hot flash symptoms were assessed using the Hot Flashes Rating Scale (HFRS) instrument. Data analysis used a paired t-test to observe changes before and after the intervention, and an independent t-test to compare the effectiveness of the two groups with a confidence level of 95% (p < 0.05). The results of the study showed that both interventions were able to significantly reduce hot flash symptoms. In the soybean extract group, an average reduction of 4.683 ± 0.6784 (p = 0.000) was obtained, while in the mung bean extract group, the average reduction was 4.050 ± 0.5649 (p = 0.000). The independent t-test results showed a difference in effectiveness between the two groups with t = 3.271 and p = 0.002 (p < 0.05). The group that consumed soybean extract showed a greater decrease in hot flash symptoms compared to the group that consumed mung bean extract. Conclusion: There is a difference in effectiveness between administering soybean extract and mung bean extract in reducing hot flash symptoms in menopausal women. Soybean extract has been proven to be more effective than mung bean extract in reducing both the frequency and intensity of hot flashes.

Abstract

Background. LBW is influenced by the mother’s nutritional status (malnutrition). One strategy to improve the nutrition of malnourished pregnant women is the provision of supplementary food. According to Ministry of Health Regulation No. 51 of 2016 regarding Standards for Nutritional Supplementation Products and the Provision of Supplementary Feeding (PMT) for Pregnant Women, the provision of supplementary feeding for pregnant women has been implemented in Boyolali Regency. The objective of this study is to determine the relationship between the intervention of providing supplementary feeding to pregnant women with KEK and the incidence of LBW at the Karanggede Public Health Center in Boyolali. Methods. This was a quantitative study using an analytical survey design, specifically a case-control study. The study population consisted of all pregnant women with KEK at the Karanggede Community Health Center from January to December 2025, totaling 97 pregnant women. The sample in this study consisted of 30 pregnant women with KEK who received PMT in 2025, plus 30 pregnant women with KEK who did not receive PMT in 2025. In this study, 30 of the 67 pregnant women with KEK who did not receive PMT were selected at random. All pregnant women with KEK who received PMT were included. Data analysis was performed using the chi-square test. Research results. The incidence of LBW at the Karanggede Community Health Center was predominantly non-LBW, with 52 respondents (86.7%). There is an association between the PMT intervention for pregnant women with KEK and the incidence of LBW at the Karanggede Community Health Center in Boyolali (p-value 0.049), with an OR of 8.826, meaning that PMT administration reduces the incidence of LBW by 8.8 times compared to pregnant women with KEK who did not receive PMT. Conclusion. There is an association between the intervention of providing supplementary food to pregnant women with KEK and the incidence of LBW at the Karanggede Boyolali Community Health Center. The research results can be used as input to conduct education on the causes of LBW among mothers before pregnancy and during pregnancy.

Abstract

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) remains a global health problem, particularly among pregnant women due to the risk of mother-to-child transmission. Rapid HIV testing is widely used for early detection in primary healthcare settings. Different blood specimens such as serum and whole blood can be utilized; however, their effectiveness requires evaluation. Objective to determine the effectiveness of serum and whole blood specimens in rapid HIV testing among pregnant women at Batang Beruh Health Center. Methods: This study employed a cross-sectional analytical design involving 20 pregnant women undergoing rapid HIV testing. Examination was performed using serum and whole blood specimens. Data were analyzed using Chi-square test with a significance level of 0.05. Results: Sixteen respondents (80%) showed good examination results consisting of 8 non-reactive serum results and 8 non-reactive whole blood results. Four respondents (20%) were categorized as poor results with reactive findings in both specimen types. Chi-square analysis showed p=0.02 (<0.05), indicating significant effectiveness of serum and whole blood usage. Serum and whole blood specimens are effective for rapid HIV testing among pregnant women.
