Abstract

The advancement of information technology has accelerated digital transformation in education, including in the area of thesis supervision. However, there remains a lack of digital platforms specifically designed to support interactive communication between students and academic advisors. This research introduces Boardify, a mobile-based application developed to enhance the thesis consultation process for Informatics Engineering students. The study adopts the Design Thinking methodology, comprising five stages: empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test. Data were obtained through observation and literature analysis, which then informed the creation of user personas, idea development, and user interface design. The application was evaluated using the System Usability Scale (SUS). Testing involving 55 participants resulted in an average SUS score of 75.6, which falls under the “acceptable” category. Validity and reliability tests also confirmed that the questionnaire items were statistically sound. These results demonstrate that Boardify delivers a positive user experience and improves the efficiency of online thesis consultation. The study contributes to the field of educational technology by offering a user-centered mobile consultation solution for academic settings, and opens up opportunities for future research in integrating artificial intelligence or learning analytics features.

Abstract

The advancement of digital technology has encouraged the increasing use of online learning applications such as Ruangguru, while simultaneously fostering various innovations in the field of education. Ruangguru, as one of the most popular educational applications in Indonesia, receives thousands of user comments that can be analyzed to reflect user satisfaction and perception. This study aims to automatically classify user comments based on the sentiments they contain using the Naïve Bayes Classifier algorithm. This approach is expected to help Ruangguru developers better understand user needs and preferences, thereby improving service quality. The dataset was obtained from the Google Play Store platform, consisting of approximately 5,000 comments collected during the period from October 28 to December 31, using the google-play-scraper tool. The application of the Multinomial Naïve Bayes algorithm with TF-IDF weighting was employed to analyze the data, resulting in four sentiment categories: Baik Sekali, Baik, Cukup Baik, and Kurang Baik. Evaluation of the model was conducted using accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score metrics. With an accuracy rate of 84.83%, the model correctly predicted the actual labels in approximately 85% of the test data. The model also achieved an F1-score of 85%, a precision of 86%, and a recall of 85%. The classification results revealed that the “Baik” category dominated with a proportion of 28.3%, followed by “Baik Sekali” at 24.3%, “Cukup Baik” at 24.0%, and “Kurang Baik” at 23.4%. These findings indicate that the model maintains a reasonable balance between sensitivity and accuracy in sentiment classification. Therefore, the Naïve Bayes Classifier method is capable of automatically identifying user opinions and has the potential to serve as a valuable tool in sentiment analysis for online learning services.

Abstract

This study aims to apply clustering methods using the K-Means and DBSCAN algorithms to group community data based on parameters such as income, housing condition, occupation, number of dependents, and health status. To determine the optimal number of clusters in the K-Means algorithm, the Elbow and Silhouette methods were employed. The research utilized Python and Google Colaboratory as data analysis tools. The clustering results showed that the DBSCAN algorithm was more effective in identifying homogeneous community groups without the need to predefine the number of clusters, while K-Means produced more structured results but relied on a predetermined cluster count. This research is expected to aid in more accurate and efficient decision-making for community data grouping.

Abstract

The development of information technology has encouraged the digitization of scientific publications through e-journals, which facilitate access and distribution of scientific papers online. Mulawarman University uses Open Journal Systems (OJS) as a publication platform but still relies on version 2 which has several security gaps. This research aims to analyse the level of security vulnerabilities on the e-journals website of Mulawarman University using the penetration testing method based on NIST SP 800-115 and OWASP Top 10 parameters in 2021. This method includes four main stages: planning, discovery, attack, and reporting. Testing was conducted using various tools to identify and validate security holes. The results found 27 vulnerabilities, consisting of 1 high risk, 6 medium risk, 13 low risk, and 7 informational. Some of the main vulnerabilities that were successfully validated include Cross-Site Scripting, Clickjacking, Session Hijacking, Information Disclosure, and Cross-Site Request Forgery. These findings indicate significant weaknesses in access control, security configuration, and session management. Each vulnerability was analysed to understand its impact on data integrity and confidentiality. Proposed remediation recommendations include strengthening security header configuration, input/output validation, and removal of unnecessary system information. This research provides empirical insight into specific vulnerabilities in OJS version 2 at Mulawarman University, which has never conducted penetration testing with a framework using international standards, which is an original contribution to efforts to improve the security of academic publication systems.

Abstract

This study aims to design and develop a point-based Automatic Offense and Sanction Management Information System integrated with a WhatsApp Gateway module at SMK Negeri 1 Percut Sei Tuan. The research is motivated by the current use of a manual student offense recording system by counseling teachers, which causes delays in both handling violations and delivering information to parents. The proposed system enables real-time offense recording, automatic sanction determination based on accumulated points, and instant notification delivery to parents via WhatsApp. The system was developed using the Rapid Application Development (RAD) methodology and employed a descriptive quantitative research approach. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and literature reviews. The implementation results indicate that the system improves the efficiency of counseling teachers’ work, reduces the average information delivery time from two working days to less than five minutes, and enhances transparency and accountability in enforcing student discipline. The system features include a dashboard, offense input interface, automatic point calculation, and WhatsApp API-based notification delivery. It is expected that this system will strengthen communication between schools and parents and serve as a model for integrating technology into the education sector.

Abstract

Cahaya Gowa Mampu is a Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME) engaged in the sale of agricultural products and the rental of farming equipment, located in Sekaduyan Taka Village, Nunukan City. This study aims to improve sales transaction management, accurate stock inventory recording, agricultural equipment rentals, and transparent financial reporting. The research employs the waterfall methodology, including interviews and data analysis on sales transactions, stock management, and equipment rentals. The findings indicate that implementing an accounting information system at UD. Cahaya Gowa Mampu enhances recording accuracy, reduces transaction time, improves sales transparency, optimizes inventory and rental management, and increases monthly sales and equipment rental summaries. The adoption of digital information technology through an accounting information system enhances operational efficiency, improves customer service, and enables real-time monitoring of periodic financial reports.

Abstract

The increasing crime rate in Medan City required structured handling and analysis efforts to prevent and reduce crime. This study aimed to group areas in Medan City based on crime rates using the K-Means Clustering algorithm. The data used were obtained from the Medan Police in 2021, covering various types of crimes in 14 sub-districts. The method applied was K-Means Clustering with 3 clusters to group areas based on crime rates, with the geolocation feature in the analysis system enhancing the accuracy of grouping and identifying crime patterns. The clustering process was carried out through two iterations, where the second iteration showed a more optimal ratio (0.0894) compared to the first iteration (0.0799). The analysis results showed the formation of three groups of areas, namely: the first cluster (high crime rate) included the Criminal Investigation area, the second cluster (moderate crime rate) covered 8 sub-districts, and the third cluster (low crime rate) consisted of 5 sub-districts. The results of this grouping could be used by Polrestabes Medan as a reference for allocating security resources and developing crime prevention strategies tailored to the characteristics of each region. This study proved that the K-Means algorithm was effective in analyzing and grouping regions based on crime rates.

Abstract

This study proposes a machine learning-based classification approach to identify perovskite and non-perovskite structures in ABO? compounds. Perovskites have garnered significant attention as a source of functional materials, including solar cells and catalysts. Yet, discovering new materials remains a considerable challenge in terms of efficiency and exploration speed. This research addresses this gap by offering a data-driven method that automatically classifies compound structures based on crystallographic and chemical descriptors. The dataset comprises various structural and chemical features, which are analyzed using descriptive statistics, boxplot visualization, and multivariate correlation to understand the data distribution and inter-feature relationships. Four machine learning algorithms, LightGBM, XGBoost, CatBoost, and K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), were tested and evaluated based on accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score. Results show that LightGBM achieved the best performance with 97% accuracy, a 98% F1 score, and a confusion matrix indicating minimal classification errors. Feature importance analysis identified the tolerance factor (t), the B to O atomic radii ratio, and the AO and BO bond lengths as the most influential features. These findings highlight that tree-based boosting models effectively capture complex structural patterns, and this approach can accelerate the discovery of new materials.

Abstract

Technology has brought significant changes to the field of education, including in the management of school activity schedules. At SMP Negeri 27 Medan, the scheduling of teaching and learning activities is still carried out manually using spreadsheets and paper-based records, which takes approximately 1–2 weeks, is prone to errors, and makes it difficult to update schedules in case of sudden changes. This study proposes the development of a web-based scheduling information system using the Constraint Satisfaction Problem (CSP) approach combined with the Backtracking algorithm based on Depth-First Search (DFS). The original contribution of this research lies in the implementation of the combined CSP and DFS methods to fully automate the scheduling process efficiently, which has not been comprehensively applied in previous studies. The research method used is qualitative, with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and literature study. The system is developed using the Waterfall model, with PHP as the programming language, Laravel for the backend, React JS for the frontend, and MySQL as the database. The implementation results show that the system can automatically generate conflict-free schedules, improve efficiency, flexibility, and accuracy in the scheduling process, and facilitate real-time information access through a web platform that can be accessed by the school, students, and the public.

Abstract

This study discusses the redesign of the user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) on the Access by KAI application using the Design Thinking method to improve the application's usability. Data were obtained from 10 respondents through the distribution of the System Usability Scale (SUS) questionnaire using Google Form, and interviews were conducted to understand user experiences and needs. The initial usability evaluation showed an average score of 51, which is included in the poor category. Through five stages of Design Thinking: Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test, the researchers analyzed user needs, formulated problems, generated solutions, created prototypes, and conducted retesting. The test results after the redesign showed an increase in the SUS score to 72.5 in the good category. These findings prove that the Design Thinking approach is effective in understanding user problems and creating more optimal UI/UX solutions.
