Abstract

This study aims to examine the existence of language shifts through shifts in speaking skills due to interactions between Indonesian, regional languages, and foreign languages. The data collection technique used is the recording technique as the main technique, while the interview and direct observation techniques are additional techniques. The respondents of this study were 34 students of the Indonesian language study program and the foreign language study program. Speech data were analyzed with three aspects of oral language skills, namely (2) speech tempo (prosody or intonation), (2) fluency, and (3) lexical (Itkonen, 2010:15-17). The results of the analysis show that there has been a shift in speaking skills from regional languages to Indonesian for all groups of respondents. Even students who are engaged in foreign languages are on average more fluent in foreign languages than in regional languages. These are indicators of a shift in regional languages to Indonesian and a shift in regional languages to foreign languages among this group of students. It can be formulated that the lower the speaking skill of a language is mastered by the speaker, the more vulnerable the language is to be shifted by a language that is more capable of being mastered by the speaker.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the accuracy of the learning media used by students when implementing teaching practices. The purpose of the implementation is to provide provisions to students before conducting internship. This research used a descriptive approach, using purposive sampling in selecting research subjects which adjust to the research objectives. The data collection technique used a classroom observation checklist with a guttman scale conducted by the observer. With the answer choices "yes" has a score of 1 and "no" has a score of 0. Material that is applied in the implementation of teaching practice is learning English for all levels of education. From the research results obtained from five groups based on predetermined learning methods, there are two groups of methods that fall into the category of "very appropriate" namely the silentway method and the SLT method. The TPR method group is included in the "appropriate" category. The lingual audio method and the SLT method group fall into the "inappropriate" category. This is because students are more focused on the application of learning methods, so students do not use learning media at all. It can be concluded that the role of learning media is so important, because it can display the visualization of an object. So that helps in increasing understanding, especially for the introduction of new vocabulary.

Abstract

This research analyzes the ideology contained in the video footage of BBC NEWS coverage of the dilemma of the new capital which was uploaded on March 6, 2020 on the BBC News youtube channel. The purpose of this study is to describe micro, meso, and macro analysis in the discourse of the new capital city presented by BBC News. This study uses the basic theory of critical discourse analysis combined between Theo van Leeuwen's model which focuses on micro aspects, namely discourse production using inclusion and exclusion strategies and Norman Fairclough's model on meso and macro analysis. The results of the analysis on the micro aspect with the use of exclusion and inclusion strategies in the discourse show the dominance of the inclusion of actors, namely the indigenous people of Kalimantan and environmental activists as victims of government policies in terms of relocating the capital city. The meso aspect analysis shows that the whole discourse production process was created and compiled by the BBC News team based on the results of field observations and interviews. The production team also showed more contra voices by including more counter arguments in the dialogue and narrative. The strategy for distributing discourse through the YouTube channel was chosen because the issue raised is an important issue and is currently being discussed nationally. The macro analysis shows the relationship that the BBC News coverage related to the issue of relocating the capital city to Kalimantan is about the majority of people in Kalimantan who are contradicting the issue of relocating the capital city.
