Abstract

Some of the best literary works around the world are very good to learn, such as a poem “Ode on a Grecian Urn” by John Keats which is phenomenal by the quote “Beauty is truth, truth beauty”, and in prose, the work from Kate Chopin entitled The Awakening which is also phenomenal by the way the story ends. By using the theory of comparative literature, this study aims to describe the intense feeling of two different kinds of literary work by depicting their similarities and differences. The analysis shows that those works provide the description of different feeling delivered by each author. Keats presents the poetry in romantic mood, full of cheers and energy, although it serves momento mori. While Chopin presents the prose in elegiac or tragic mood. Those feeling are depicted throughout the way both authors represent the values of their works. Three values which are depicted in its similarities and differences are; 1) the meaning of death, 2) nature attribute, and 3) revealing truth. The feelings shown in the both literary works are basically about the reality of life. The beauty, the truth, the life, and the death are enclosed into the social life experienced by the people in the world. Keywords: comparative literature; feeling; values of literary works

Abstract

Action verb has significant effect on pupil’s writing skills of procedures text. This study aims to investigate the use of action verbs at improving pupil’s in writing skill and procedures texts in particularly. Describing of the pupil’s difficulties in writing procedures text, and investigating the effectiveness of action verbs to build up pupils’ ability in writing procedures is the objective of this study. Result figured out that action verbs in writing procedures texts has significantly effect at improving pupils’ ability. Cycle 1showed 60.45 and cycle 2 showed 80.50. Furthermore, the average This study concluded that action verbs in writing skills of procedures text can be suggested as an additional solution for the pupils, teachers, education practitioner, and polish maker to whom with enrich their writing skills on procedures text. It is implied that learning procedures text easier after they asked for difficulties in the beginning of class. And, by using this technique, pupils felt easier to express their opinion and write procedures text. Keywords: action verbs; writing skill; procedures text

Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK). Penelitian dilaksanakan di kelas VII SMP Yapis Merauke. Subjek penelitian adalah siswa kelas VII SMP Yapis Merauke tahun ajaran 2017/2018 yang berjumlah 24 siswa. Penelitian Tindakan Kelas ini menggunakan teknik pengumpulan data berupa observasi dan tes, di analisis secara deskriptif kualitatif. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan menulis teks deskripsi siswa kelas VII SMP Yapis Merauke dengan menggunakan media gambar berbasis budaya Papua. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa, penerapan media gambar berbasis budaya dapat meningkatkan kemampuan menulis teks deskripsi siswa kelas VII SMP Yapis Merauke. Peningkatan kemampuan menulis teks deskripsi tersebut, dapat dilihat pada kegiatan dan kreaktifitas siswa dalam pembelajaran. Selain itu, kemampuan siswa juga dapat dilihat pada pencapaian skor nilai yang menunjukan pencapaian belajar sesuai dengan kriteria ketuntasan minimal 72. Tes pra siklus hanya 16,66% yang mampu menulis teks deskripsi atau mencampai ketuntasan. Peningkatan kemampuan menulis teks deskripsi setelah diterapkan media gambar berbasis budaya Papua mengalami peningkatan. Hasil pada siklus I terdapat 33,33% yang tuntas. Siklus II terdapat 45,83% dan Siklus III 79,16% yang mencapai ketuntasan. Jadi, penggunaan media gambar berbasis budaya Papua dalam pembelajaran dapat meningkatkan kemampuan menulis teks deskripsi siswa kelas VII SMP Yapis Merauke. Abstract

The research aimed to find out whether EGRA (Exposure, Generalization, Reinforcement, Application) method can improve the students’ achievement and interest in learning English grammar. This research was done in SMP BP Al-Munawaroh in May Academic Year 2018/2019. The population of this research was conducted at the students of SMP BP Al-Munawaroh, and the samples were 35 students of Eight Grade of SMP BP Al-Munawaroh selected purposively sampling. The data were collected by using test, questionnaire and observation. The data from the test and questionnaire were analyzed quantitatively while the data from the observation were analyzed qualitatively. The result of the analyzes show that EGRA Method gives higher improvement on students’ English Grammar. The mean score of in pretest 40,78 (poor) to to 61,89 (good) in post-test. The finding from questionnaire verifies that the highest rank of the mean score is 43,71% agreed students; 22,29% strongly agreed students; 14,86% of neutral answer and 17,43% of disagreed students and 1,71% students answer the strongly disagree statement. EGRA Method is responded positively by the English grammar and the application is preferable. Keywords: EGRA method; English grammar; achievement

Abstract

This research aimed at finding out the use of cartoon film in improving the students’ English tense verbs. To explain the improvement, the researcher used experimental research method. The population of the research consists of 210 students and took 60 students as a sample which was conducted two classes: 30 students in experimental class and 30 students in control class. The research data are collected using vocabulary test in multiple choice items, matching test and completion test which is analyzed by descriptive and inferential statistic through SPSS 21.0. The location of this research was taken at the first year students’ of SMP Negeri 9 Ambon. The result data analysis are mean score of posttest of experimental class is higher than control class in vocabulary (73.8 > 66.2).The different of those mean score is statistically significant, it is based on t-test value at significant level 0.05, the probability value is lower than significant level ( 2.021 < 32.68 ). Based on the result above, the researcher concluded that using cartoon film to improve the students’ English tense verbs of the first year of SMP Negeri 9 Ambon was effective because the data shows a very significant different between t- test and t- table.
