Abstract

Pangi (Pangium edule Reinw) is a type of non-timber forest product commodity in the vegetable group, in which all parts of this plant can be utilized. Pangi plants are planted on agroforestry land so that they can be used sustainably to fulfill their subsistence needs. Some of the people of Kalembang Village cultivate their land by turning it into agroforestry land and planting seasonal crops, fruits and forestry plants. This study aims to describe the potential and utilization of pangi plants found in the agroforestry land of the Kalembang community, Sangalla' District, Tana Toraja Regency. Simple random sampling technique and interviews are the methods used in this study. The data obtained is arranged in tabular form and then described in a descriptive way to describe the use of Pangi by the community. The results showed that there were 4 hamlets in Kalembang Village, but this research was only conducted in Kalembang Hamlet. The area of agroforestry land in Kalembang Village is 325 ha, while the area planted by pangi is on average 0.25-1 ha with around 10-31 pangi trees. The research data in the field shows that there are 524 trees which are still productive in producing fruit or the equivalent of 90%, while the number of trees that are not productive in producing fruit (dead) is 58 trees or the equivalent of 10%. Respondents in Kalembang Village only used 4 products produced from pangi plants, namely (stems) used as building materials; (leaves) are used as wrappers for meat so they don't spoil quickly and leaves are easily used as vegetables; (pangi fruit/seeds) are used as food ingredients, namely vegetables and seasoning (Kluwek).

Abstract

Kayan Mentarang National Park is the largest nature conservation area on the island of Kalimantan. In supporting activities to protect and preserve wild animals, it is necessary to know their numbers and distribution. Observing wild animals often faces challenges because the characteristics of the animals themselves are shy, cryptic and elusive. It makes them difficult to find directly. Especially in TNKM, this condition is exacerbated by the topography and area size. This research aims to determine species richness, species diversity, encounter rates, abundance and activity patterns of wild animals using camera traps at SPTN I Long Bawan TNKM. The research results found 31 types of wild animals belonging to 17 families. The wild animal encounter rate value was dominated by Macaca nemestrina (ER 2,984 photos/day). The Diversity Index (H') value is classified as moderate with a value of 2.19. The wild animal that has the highest species abundance value is Macaca nemestrina (RAI 18.96%). The daily activity patterns of wild animals are classified as active at night (nocturnal) with as many as 8 species (26%), active during the day (diurnal) with as many as 14 species (45%) and active at both times (nocturnal and diurnal) as many as 9 species (29%).

Abstract

Ecotourism is one effort that can be developed to preserve the mangrove ecosystem. This research aims to assess the suitability and carrying capacity of the Silvo mangrove ecosystem area so that it can be used as reference material in making mangrove ecosystem management policies. This research was carried out in November – January 2023 in Kampung Bagan, Batam City, Riau Islands Province. Data were analyzed using the Tourism Suitability Index (IKW) analysis matrix, spatial analysis using the Geographic Information System (GIS) approach followed by an assessment of Regional Carrying Capacity (DDK) to determine the maximum number of visitors that can be accommodated. The research results showed that IKW at the research location was in the very suitable category covering an area of 6.73 ha and 22.03 ha was in the suitable category so that the total IKW obtained was 28.76 ha. The length of the area that can be used for tracking activities is 1793.45 m and the carrying capacity of mangrove ecotourism is 287 people/day taking into account the travel time for each visitor (open 8 hours/day). Kampung Bagan as a whole is in the category suitable for being an ecotourism silvo area with tourist capacity in the good category and not exceeding the maximum allowed threshold. Therefore, the recommended policy decision is to create regulations related to mangrove ecosystem management

Abstract

The potential for ecotourism in the Riau Islands has increased after the Covid 19 pandemic passed, with the largest number of foreign tourist destinations on Batam Island. One of the ecotourism potentials that can be developed is land forest management as part of the forest and land rehabilitation program by BPDASHL Sei Jang Duriangkang Riau Islands in Mangsang Village, Sei Beduk District. Several ecotourism activities have been developed but have not been managed well. One of the efforts to manage sylvo-ecotourism in Mangsang can be done by identifying sylvo-ecotourism potential. Identification was carried out by surveying and exploring the forest area around Mangsang Hill, Sei Beduk District. The data collected includes the type and condition of land forests, unique, interesting and rare types of fauna as well as potential tourism activities that can be developed. Based on the results, it was found that there is sylvo-ecotourism potential for sports spots such as downhill, tracking; natural spots such as the Mangsang waterfall and views of sunset, sunrise and views of the coast and islands around Batam City; as well as agricultural fruit harvest spots. It is feared that land clearing activities around the Predatory Hill area for settlement will cause sedimentation due to erosion around the Tembesi Reservoir.

Abstract

One of the leading causes of global warming is land damage due to forest encroachment and the conversion of forest areas. One of the efforts to reduce the increase in greenhouse gas concentrations is maintaining carbon reserves by developing and improving forest vegetation. The agroforestry pattern can solve problems from both environmental and economic aspects in society. Candlenut plants are one of several types of plants that are usually used by applying the agroforestry model. Cenrana, Camba, Mallawa Districts, and Maros Regency are still developing and utilizing candlenut plants on community-owned land and in forest areas. This study aims to determine the spatial characteristics of the candlenut-based agroforestry pattern in Maros Regency. This research uses a quantitative method using remote sensing technology based on Google Earth Engine (GEE). The results of the study show that the agroforestry pattern in Maros Regency (Mallawa District, Camba District, Cenrana District) applies the Agrisilvicultural and Silvipastural patterns, apart from that the community's candlenut agroforestry land is located at a distance that can be reached by the community, namely 0-2 km outside the forest area. The composition of candlenut-based agroforestry and non-agroforestry patterns shows several crop combinations: horticulture, food, and plantations.

Abstract

The use of undergrowth as medicine has been carried out by many people, especially traditional communities who live far from health services whose use has been passed down from generation to generation. Attention to traditional medicines has shown an increase, this is evident from the use of natural medicine in developed countries reaching 65% while it is estimated that there are 9,600 plant species that have been utilized by 400 various ethnic or ethnic groups in Indonesia. Therefore, this study aims to determine the potential of the undergrowth used as traditional medicine in Sangtandung Village, North Walenrang District, Luwu Regency. There are two stages in this research, namely for species diversity using the method of determining plots for collecting data on species diversity, while the potential for medicine use uses an interview method with respondents who have been determined using a purposive sampling method. Data analysis for species diversity used is an important value index analysis by calculating the values of density, relative density, frequency, relative frequency, while for the potential of undergrowth as medicine using quantitative descriptive analysis. The results showed that there were 18 types of undergrowth identified as potential as traditional medicine in Sangtandung Village and the embarrassed daughter plant (Mimosa pudica Lin) had the highest IVI. Of the total 18 types of undergrowth that have the potential to be used as traditional medicine, there are 9 types that have been used by the community as medicine and 9 types that have not been utilized by the people of Sangtandung Village. Among them are putrimalu (Mimosa pudica Lin), urang aring (Eclita prostrate), sidaguri ( Sida rhombifolia), pakis (Polypodiophyta), bayam duri (Amaranthus Spinosus), bayam malabar (Basella alba), cakar ayam (Selaginella doederleinii), meniran (Phyllanthus urinaria), and gelinggang (Cassia Alata). Generally, the leaves are used by boiling and drinking the boiled water to treat various diseases.
