Abstract

Risky sexual behavior has become a global social phenomenon. One of its consequences is the increasing HIV/AIDS case. On the other hand, some variables, such as substance use, AIDS knowledge and sexual intercourse under the influence of substance use are attributed to risky sexual behavior. This study aims to examine the correlation between substance use, knowledge on AIDS, sexual intercourse under the influence of substance use and risky sexual behavior. 40 college heterosexual male students are collected as participants. Alcohol consumption as a substance use correlates with sexual intercourse under the influence of substance use, sexual intercourse with strangers, dating duration, and age of first time dating. Sexual intercourse under the influence of substance use correlates with dating duration. Some of risky sexual behaviors also correlate with other risky sexual behaviors. However, there is no correlation between knowledge of AIDS with other variables. Hence, other variables must be considered as predictors of risky sexual behavior to have more comprehensive mainframe.

Abstract

The aims of this study were to evaluate reliability and validity of the Student's Perception of Assessment Questionnaire (SPAQ), to evaluate and refine the instrument to improve its capacity as a measure through IRT modelling, to detect Differential Item Functioning (DIF), to evaluate students' perception on assessment, and to evaluate gender-based, grade-based, class program-based, school location-based, and school status-based differences in students' perceptions. Results showed that the validity and reliability coefficients revealed that the SPAQ was suitable for assessing students' perceptions on five assessment dimensions : Congruence With Planned Learning, Authenticity, Student Counsultation, Transparency, and Diversity. For the IRT models applied, only Generalized Partial Credit Model shows that 30 items of the SPAQ scale fit to the data. There are six items show DIF in two categories: Item 14, 17, 18, 21, 24, dan 25. The average scale-item mean values for all the scales were less than 3.0, which indicates a need to address these dimensions of assessment at classroom level. The perceptions of students grouped on the basis of gender, of grade level, of class program, of school location and of school status groups were comparable, but on the basis of school location groups were statistically significantly different for each sub scale. Specifically how a student thinks about their assessment will influence their response.

Abstract

The study aims to examine the organismic involvement and self regulation on stage actors who receive awards or acknowledgment from a government institution. Organismic involvement is an imagination which is inspired by a narration affecting an actor's belief and act on the stage (Daiute & Lightfoot, 2004). Self regulations is an ability to develop, implement and regulate a planned behavior in a flexible way to achieve a desired future outcome. This is a qualitative study based on general interviews. The subjects are two main actors and two supporting actors, each from traditional theaters and modern theaters. The finding refers to Sarbin's role theory (1954) that the third level of organismic involvement is the best level for role play on stage. The two respondents who received an award or acknowledgment from the goverment institution have also reached level three. An individual should better achieve level four which involve more learning process to gain optimal therapy and intervention process. Besides, acting skills, talent, emphaty and self regulation are required in the process to achieve an excellent role play on the stage.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to examine empirically the relationship between spiritual intelligence and problem focused coping on undergraduate students. The subjects are 75 young adult undergraduate students. The study uses cluster random sampling as sampling technique. Based on statistically analysis of product moment correlation, the result shows rxy = 0.617 with p<0.01, indicating that there is a significant positive relationship between spiritual intelligence and problem focused coping. The higher spiritual intelligence is, the higher problem focused coping will be, and the other way around.

Abstract

Today, one of the growing sport activities in Indonesia is dancing. As a new sport, dancing is lack of athlete who is able to represent Indonesia in international dancing competitions. This happens because dancing has been labeled as an expensive sport (Zadli, 2009). In fact, the qualification to become a dancer is strong physical and mental capability gained from regular and consistent trainings. One of the factors which may encourage someone to take regular trainings is motivation. A study conducted by Li et. al. (Batia, 2007) reveals that motivation may regulate desire and consistency to take regular trainings. Motivation types based on self-determination continuum are called behavior regulation. Ryan and Brown (in Magnus, 2007) mention that motivation type or behavior regulation is influenced by self-esteem, which is an aspect of self-concept. Hence, if self-esteem affects behavior regulation, self-concept may indirectly influence behavior regulation. The result of this study shows that there is no significant relationship between self-concept and behavior regulation in dancing because each respondent has different competition experience, and respondents hold a high self-concept. Thus, the respondent's motivation to practice dancing is not caused by high self-concept.

Abstract

Soekarno, the first president of the Republic Indonesia, once created a jargon called JAS MERAH (literally means red coat) which was the acronym of jangan sekali-kali melupakan sejarah (literally means never forget our history). This jargon is important because history is one of the aspects that build a nation's identity and should be remembered and comprehended by its citizens. This study observes adolescent's recollection about national and international history. Respondents are undergraduate students who respond to questionnaires about their recollection on history. The result is interesting, because the subjects mostly recall politics and war issue and nothing related to humanity and culture. Of eight national heroes recognized by the respondents, only one is unconnected with politics and war. Of eight national historical events, all are related to politics and war. Of twelve world's historical events, nine are linked to politics and war, two are connected with nature and health condition, and only one is related to social issue. Of nine world's heroes which are recognized, all are related to politics and war. These findings are then compared to other similar studies. Although the results are varied, it should be emphasized that participants are quite impressed with political and war-related heroes or events. It is quite likely because politics and war issue get bigger portion in national history than any other subjects, while in the world's history context, the study was conducted when conflict occurred which led to war.

Abstract

Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS) conducted in Indonesia in 2006 reported that 37.3 percent of students smoked, and three of ten students (30.9) started smoking at the age of younger than 10 years old. Therefore, it is important to develop an effective treatment for teen smokers to eliminate their smoking habit, and thus protect them from smoking negative impact as early as possible. Dealing with nicotine-addicted teens requires an approach that involves cognitive and behavioral aspects, and CBT is a method embracing both. This study observes the effectiveness of CBT group in the treatment of nicotine-addicted adolescent. CBT group method provides fundamental fact that it can develop adaptive responses of its members. In CBT group, participants can learn the principles of CBT in more active way. Individual capacity within a group to obtain an adaptive response often exceeds the ability of the individual itself in an individual setting (White & Freeman, 2000). The study reveals that the CBT group therapy is effective in reducing nicotine addiction of the four participants. The given therapy successfully decreases cigarette intake by 97.91% and lessen smoking motives by 44.30 percent. This therapy is also able to lower cigarette addiction to a very low level.

Abstract

Pancasila is a national point of view and way life of the Indonesian people, set up by the founding fathers and promulgated as philosophical foundation of the Indonesian state. As a way of life, Pancasila is very indigenous. Today, Pancasila is more often studied as political construction and citizenship. Therefore, the authors develop this scale, which can serve as a tool for researcher, especially in social and political psychology area in Indonesia. This scale can also contribute in obtaining overview of Pancasila in the society and can serve as a reference to public decision maker, especially in developing national identity. The development of this measurement is based on values contained in the five principles of Pancasila. The trial is conducted to 41 students from faculty of psychology. For data collection, QuestionPro is used as online survey software. In terms of the analyzed item, the initial scale consists of 37 items, and then is reduced to 32 items. The reliability coefficient using Cronbach's Alpha is 0.848. One of item, namely item no.30, has the highest correlation coefficient. Overall, we find highly corrected item-total correlation in the five principles of Pancasila. This result has linearity from Meinarno's (2010) finding in folklore values. The five principles of Pancasila frequently appears in the Sumatran and Javanese folklores.
