Abstract

Indonesian serial drama or often called sinetron has been dominated television show in Indonesia. Most television viewers spend their most time to watch sinetron. Meanwhile, there is a serious phenomenon that the number of depression has been increased throughout the world, including in Indonesia. Therefore, Adversity Quotient, defined as one's capacity to face and overcome adversity in his/her life, which stated by Stoltz, becomes necessary to discuss. There are three types of AQ: Quitters (the ones who choose to quit and ignoring the opportunity); Campers (the ones who are afraid to take risks and choose to be satisfied with what they have gained); and Climbers (the ones who do not allow anything to stop them to move forward). This was a qualitative descriptive study with non-frequentive content analysis technique to analyze the data. The samples of this study were 15 of Indonesian sinetron and 15 Korean sinetron. The samples were taken by incidental sampling technique. The result of this study demonstrated that most of sinetron's characters (62%) were categorized as Campers, 31% were Quitters, and only 7% were Climbers. Meanwhile, in KOrean sinetron, there were 56% Climbers, 36% Campers, and 8% Quitters. The conclusion was Indonesian sinetron showed less climbers characteristics than Korean sinetron. In sinetron, success was associated with religious efforts, whereas in Koream sinetron success was related with hard work and optimistic attitude.

Abstract

Schizophrenia is a severe mental disorder which commonly occurs in people who live in big cities such as Jakarta. People with schizophrenia may cause problems to their family, particularly to their caregivers, and the problems may affect caregivers' happiness. Seligman (2005) divides happiness into three periods of life; past, present, and future. The application of positive character in daily life, particularly in their role as caregivers, also influences their happiness. This study was conducted to examine happiness and positive character of middle-aged women who became informal caregivers for people with schizophrenia. Qualitative method through interview and observation was used to analyze the data. Respondents were four women, aged 40-65. The result showed diversity of happiness in the subjects, depending on their positive emotion in the past, present, and future life. Their happiness was also influenced by care-receivers' conditions and their dependability on the caregivers. Positive character also kept the subjects strong to take varios responsibility and other roles.

Abstract

The study aimed to examine the correlation between parenting styles with adolescent's sexual behavior. There were 274 respondents participated in this study, ranging from 14 to 22 of age. The underlying theories used in this study were four parenting styles developed by Baumrid: authoritative, authoritarian, permissive and uninvolved, and four types of sexual behavior set up by Duval and Miller: touching, kissing, petting, and intercourse. The result which was based on chi square computation yielded a value 12.040 (p<0.05) which meant that there was no significant correlation between parenting style and adolescent's sexual behavior. Some aspects of theory, methodology and samplings which were used in the study and contributed to the result were also analyzed.

Abstract

The objective of the study was to examine the correlation between siblings relationship with forgiving aspect. Sibling interactions are not without conflict. One simple way to settle the conflict is to forgive. Forgiving will open the way to restore and develop siblings relationship and to erase resentment. Siblings are supposed to have close relationship and therefore are easier for them to forgive each other. However, in real life not all siblings conflicts are ended with forgiving acts. Inability to conduct forgiving acts and to remove hard feelings may influence well being and siblings relationship and will likely raise the same conflict in the future. The result showed significant correlation between sensitivity and warmth. Additional findings demonstrated that there were significant differences between siblings rivalry and age discrepancy, betweensiblings of the same gender and the opposite gender on the aspects of willingness to forgive which was influenced by individual situation or conditions and social environment, and about the obstacles which influenced willingness to forgive. The feelings of getting special treatment, support and close relationship with the parent also yielded significant differences between siblings of the same gender and the opposite gender.

Result showed that the four factors had equal contribution of 7.1 percent towards career maturity. However, this figure was not significant because the respondents came from a school with distinctive quality. Also, respondents had homogenous characteristics.

This study aims to examine the relationship between perceived organizational support and turnover intention on bank employees at the X bank. Perceived Organizational Support (POS) variable is measured with scale developed by Eisenberger et al. (1986) through Survey of Perceived Organizational Support (SPOS).
