Abstract

It is widely accepted that employing armed forces will successfully accomplish the objective of maintaining peace. However, these solutions are not always effective in bringing lasting peace. In order for peace to become deeply ingrained in societal lives, it is frequently necessary to look deeply into the social and moral foundations of a society. This particular study was designed to investigate the functions and applicability of conventional moral values and practices in upholding peace. Specifically, the paper was intended to study the practical and potential benefits of Sidaama moral ideals and principles for maintaining peace focusing on Halaale principle. To achieve this objective several key informants were interviewed as primary data sources besides a compressive literature review on the matters of peace maintenance, conflict resolution, ethics and moral principles and practices of Sidaama people. Accordingly, the analysis was made on the data collected from the informants and contents of the references. Finally, it was found that “Halaale” principle of Sidaama People has both a preventative role in conflicts and maintaining harmony by binding the members of the community to the communitarian good. Based on this, it was recommended that, the diligent attention should be paid both at policy and society levels to make use of the fruits of traditional moral principles rather than lessening them as obsolescent practices.

Abstract

As national politics continues to have influence on human rights both in practice and theory globally, Indonesia also finds itself in a conundrum of human rights challenges. Like other legal entities that have ratified international instruments that deal with human rights, Indonesia has ratified, acceded to and domesticated relevant human rights instruments. At national level, Indonesia also has Legislation Number 39 of Year 1999 (hereinafter referred to as Law No. 39 of 1999) which deals with human rights. This research examines the failure or inability of this law to control the political elites over the years. It examines the influence of the Indonesian society on this legislation. Its ius constitutum is analyzed and thereafter, points out the ius constituendum as a prospect for a progressive society. In this research, a normative research method is used through analysis of authentic secondary data. This, therefore, reaches a finding that Indonesia’s international human rights diplomacy should be strengthened at the level of Ministry of Foreign Affairs with technical support from the Ministry of Law and Human Rights. Going forward, strong advocacy policy on human righs across all the regions in Indonesia also needs to be in place by the government.

Abstract

Slavery has existed in many countries of the world, and it continues to cause a lot of untold hardships to its victims. Modern day slavery manifests through forced labour, sexual exploitation, human trafficking, neocolonialism etc. These widespread problems across Igbo land and globe are still in existence despite Government efforts to curb it through the 1999 Constitution at article 34.1(b) which declares that no person shall be held in slavery and in the criminal code Act which criminalizes slavery dealing under section 369. Also National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Legislation providing for the rights and protection of children in Nigeria- Child Right Act (2003), the ugly situation has been on the increase. This paper therefore, sees the use of Igbo language as a tool to curb modern day slavery in Igbo land through various agencies like the family, school and church via mass media, folktales etc. The paper further looks into the negative effects and consequences of modern day slavery in the society. The study adopts qualitative research design because it identifies and structurally analysed the use of Igbo language in curbing modern day slavery in Igbo land. The method of data collection include: primary and secondary sources. The primary sources include: introspection i.e. the researcher’s intuitive knowledge of Igbo language and culture, oral interview and observation technique while the secondary sources include: data from relevant books, journals, and internet materials. Abstract

This study explores the emergence and consolidation of digital authoritarianism in the Philippines, particularly under the administrations of Rodrigo Duterte and Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Drawing on discourse analysis, secondary interviews, and institutional reports, the article investigates how state actors employ algorithmic surveillance, legal harassment, and disinformation campaigns to suppress critical media. By analyzing key cases such as the legal persecution of journalist Maria Ressa and Rappler, the study reveals the mechanisms through which press freedom is undermined in digital spaces. The research adopts a descriptive qualitative approach, engaging with policy documents, human rights reports, and digital media analytics to assess how digital tools are repurposed for authoritarian consolidation. Findings indicate that the government’s use of cybersecurity laws, troll networks, and selective enforcement contributes to a chilling effect on independent journalism. This phenomenon signals a shift from traditional censorship to hybrid, algorithm-driven repression. The study contributes to the broader discourse on media freedom, digital rights, and democratic backsliding in Southeast Asia. It underscores the need for regional policy coordination, digital literacy, and institutional resilience to counter authoritarian innovation in cyberspace. Future research may expand this inquiry by examining comparative cases in neighboring ASEAN states.

Abstract

This paper examined the impact of financial development on economic growth in Nigeria. The paper employed time series data (1985-2022) using ARDL approach, the objective of the study to access the causal relationship between financial development and economic growth in Nigeria. The data were obtained from Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and (WDI, 2023); Gross Domestic Product (GDP), Domestic Credit to Private Sector(DCRS), Market Capitalization (MACAP), Consumer Price Index (CPI), Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), Interest Rate (INTR) and Financial Development (FD) proxies by the ratio of broad money stock (M2). The study was anchored on Supply-Leading Hypothesis theory by Robinson 1952. The results show that all the indicators of financial development and its influence on economic growth, the DCRS has a negative influence on GDP, its impact is not statistically significant, implying an indirect effect, the CPI and FDI significantly affect GDP with CPI excreting a negative impact and FDI demonstrating a strong negative correlation. The ECM explores short term relationship among these variables and their implication for FD. Based on the following conclusion the following recommendations were made among others; strengthen price stability and implemented effective monetary policies and price control mechanism to maintain stable and controlled inflation.

Abstract

The integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the educational systems of both public and private primary schools in Africa has become a crucial factor in enhancing teaching and learning. This paper explores the role of ICT tools in education, including computers, interactive whiteboards, learning management systems, educational apps, online collaboration tools, television, and online assessment tools. It discusses their applications and the advantages they offer, such as fostering creativity, improving academic performance, increasing motivation and responsibility, and promoting teamwork. However, it also acknowledges the challenges associated with ICT integration, including distractions, excessive usage, exposure to false information, data theft, reduced human contact, and cyberbullying. Moreover, the paper highlights key challenges in African education, such as the lack of computer literacy among instructors, low teledensity, unstable power supply, inadequate financing, and the absence of a comprehensive ICT curriculum. It concludes by emphasizing the need for a holistic approach to ICT integration, addressing infrastructure, teacher training, curriculum development, and organizational support to realize the full potential of ICT in education especially at the Primary school level.

Abstract

This review explores the crucial nexus between financial management and the learning environment within government-aided primary schools in Ibanda Municipality, Uganda. Education in developing nations heavily depends on the efficient allocation and utilization of funds, directly impacting the quality of education and overall learning experience for students. Drawing upon a comprehensive analysis of selected schools in Ibanda Municipality, this review investigates the diverse financial management strategies employed and their subsequent influence on essential educational components, including infrastructure, teaching resources, and student welfare. This review research revealed that there is a direct correlation between effective financial management and the overall enhancement of the learning environment. Schools with robust financial planning mechanisms demonstrate improved infrastructure, better teacher-student ratios, and enhanced availability of educational resources whereas those schools facing financial constraints struggle to survive financially which affects the quality of education. Moreover, this review sheds light on the challenges faced by schools in resource allocation and highlights potential solutions to enhance financial sustainability. It emphasizes the need for strategic financial planning, transparent budgeting, and community involvement to ensure the effective utilization of limited resources.
