Abstract

This research purpose is exactly to describe the forms of deixis in Aladdin (2019) movie. This research is using qualitative method. The data that are used in this research are totally taken from the dialogues of Aladdin (2019) movie, the data are in form of dialogues, sentences, and words which are analyzed carefully according to the function and classification of each deixis. The sources are available in two forms, first it is a movie (video), and second is the written script of the movie. After analyzing the data, researcher found there are four types of deixis are used in Aladdin (2019) movie, those are person deixis, spatial deixis, social deixis and temporal deixis. Each of deixis has its function and appearances frequency. The data after analyzed shows there are four appearances frequencies have found from this research, first is person deixis 76,56% (1.366), spatial deixis 12,21% (218), social deixis 9,24% (165), and temporal deixis 1,96% (35) those are the appearances frequencies of each deixis. The result found that the most common deixis in Aladdin (2019) movie is person deixis and followed by other deixis below it, in sequence percentages level.

Abstract

This study deals to increase the English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students' confidence in English speaking. This research used qualitative analysis by distributing questioner. This study suggest that EFL teachers should seek ways to increase students' collaboration in the classroom to help them gain confidence in speaking. The study involved the students in the fifth semester (class 1) in the English Department in the 2018/2019 academic year, Tidar University. The researcher compared the gathered data with other relevant researches and theories involved in the study. Based on the research questions, the research result shows that students’ perceptions of self-confidence have a significant to decrease reticence in speaking skills. However, lecturers need to push the students in practice speaking English in front of a class, especially to improve the self-confidence when the students are communicating in English. Two research questions were formulated in this study. There are: (1) what are the factors of the EFL students’ reticence in speaking? (2) Do the students have high self-confidence in speaking skills?

Abstract

The purposes of this study were to find out whether or not (1) there was a significant difference in English speaking achievement between the students who were taught by using role-play technique and those who were not, (2) there was a significant interaction effect of role-playing and speaking anxiety on English speaking achievement, and (3) there was a considerable difference in speaking performance between the students who have high and low levels of speaking anxiety. 57 out of 80 tenth graders of hotel accommodation of SMKN 3 Palembang were selected randomly as the sample. The ‘Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale’ and an oral test were used to collect the data. The intervention was conducted for sixteen meetings, two teaching hours in each. The findings showed the main difference between both groups was 4.6, which the experimental led the control group. Also, the two-ways ANOVA indicated that there was a significant interaction between role-playing and speaking anxiety on students’ speaking achievement. The main difference score between low and high levels of speaking anxiety was 3.68, in which low-level speaking anxiety drove the upper level. It is clear that speaking anxiety plays an essential role in students’ speaking performance

Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out The correlation between students’ grammar mastery and students’ writing achievement at eleventh grade students of SMAN 1 Tarakan. Writing is one of the skills that required the users to master the grammar. The sample was taken from one of the 11 classes of eleventh grade students by used purposive sampling, to collect the data the researcher used Grammar Test and Writing Test. To analyse the data the researcher used Pearson Product Moment. This research used quantitative approach with correlation design, from the result of the research found that there was a fair correlation between students’ grammar mastery and students writing achievement. The result showed that between students’ grammatical mastery and students’ writing achievement obtained a significance value of 0.05 with a significant value of 0.0020.05 which means that there was a significant correlation between grammatical mastery and writing achievement, meanwhile for r test value r table with the correlation value was 0.5100.3388, the correlation of grammatical mastery and writing achievement was 0.510 which is a medium correlation between grammatical mastery and writing achievement. Based on the result of the research and discussion it can be concluded that there was a significant correlation between students’ grammatical mastery and students’ writing achievement at XI grade students of SMAN 1 Tarakan.

Abstract

This study tries to analyze and find out students' factors and problems that affect students’ ability in speaking skills. The aims of this study are to answer two research questions: (1) what factors and problems affect the students' speaking skills and (2) what factors and problems are most dominant experienced by students which affect their speaking skills. This research uses descriptive qualitative analysis techniques to obtain data. The object of this study was 5th-semester students in the English department, Tidar university. In obtaining data, this study uses a questionnaire used by Marriam (2015) regarding related research. The intention of this study is to find out the students' factors and problems in speaking skills.

Abstract

Writing is the most basic skill after reading. Writing can also express our ideas. What is in our brain, we can express it through writing. Human have 2 brains including, the right and left brains. The capacity of every human brain is very different. Some have hobbies such as drawing, singing, calculating and writing poetry. This research we conducted at SMA GKPI Padang Bulan  used mind mapping technique for students by writing narrative text. Where we only took 2 classes, including class XI IPA1 and XI IPA 2. This research aims to find several kinds of weaknesses in writing narrative text. Which method used in this research is quantitative data, instrument collecting data is an essay test which consists of 3 question. The researcher took the subject is a grade 11 students on the GKPI Padang Bulan private high school which consist of 27 students .

Abstract

The rapid development of technology affects all aspects of life includes education. It becomes essential for teachers to possess skill or competencies on using the internet technology for teaching. Teachers’ belief and competencies affects their attitude towards the use of internet technology for teaching. The aim of this study is to explore the teachers’ perceptions of the use of Internet-Assisted Language Teaching (IALT) for EFL Classroom in Indonesian Madrasah (Islamic School). The data of this survey study is collected through questionnaire and interview. The questionnaires are distributed on-line using Google form to 35English teachers of Madrasah in several regions of Indonesia, but only 26 returned. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and interpreted comprehensively. The result of the study shows that the majority of the English teachers in Madrasah have positive learning experience and positive attitude toward the use of IALT in their EFL classroom. However, they perceived that they lack of competencies and less knowledge to use the internet for teaching. Therefore, they need internet technology training to improve their skill in using and integrating internet technology for teaching EFL classroom.
