Abstract

This study examines how the concept of halal in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries is shaped through the synergy and tension of binary oppositions such as pure–impure, natural–synthetic, scientific–spiritual, and commercial–ethical. Using a structured literature review, the research analyzes academic publications, industrial reports, and halal regulatory frameworks to identify discursive patterns that influence the production and legitimization of halal products. The analysis reveals that halal has undergone a process of meaning commodification, in which religious values are intertwined with narratives of safety, quality, and scientific validation. The findings also show the emergence of hybrid rationalities within certification practices, where fiqh considerations, medical necessity, and industrial logic are negotiated simultaneously. Overall, the study demonstrates that binary oppositions do not operate as fixed boundaries but as flexible mechanisms that shape the identity, justification, and strategic positioning of halal products in the global market.

Abstract

This study analyzes risk management strategies in murabahah financing at PT. BPRS Al-Washliyah Medan. Murabahah dominates approximately 95% of the bank's total financing portfolio, creating potential non-performing financing (NPF) risks. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation with management and staff. Data analysis in this study used the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that the main risks include credit, liquidity, operational, and market risks. The causes of financing problems arise from internal factors such as weak financing analysis and external factors such as customer inability to pay and economic fluctuations. To mitigate these risks, PT. BPRS Al-Washliyah Medan applies the 5C principle of character, capacity, capital, collateral, and economic conditions—and the 3R strategy of rescheduling, reconditioning, and restructuring. The implementation of these steps effectively minimizes the NPF level and improves the bank's financial stability. Overall, this study emphasizes the importance of robust risk management practices to maintain business performance and maintain customer trust in Islamic banking. The findings also provide valuable insights for improving risk management in Islamic financial institutions and serve as a reference for further research on murabahah financing risks.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of Islamic business ethics at Manna Supermarket Yogyakarta, focusing on the principles of shidq (honesty), ‘adl (justice), amanah (trustworthiness), and ihsan (benevolence). The research used a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. Informants included one HR Manager and three customers. The findings indicate that the application of Islamic business ethics has been effectively implemented. The principle of shidq is reflected in transparent pricing and product authenticity, while ‘adl is demonstrated through equal service for all customers. The principle of amanah appears in the supermarket’s social responsibility toward community welfare around the campus. Meanwhile, ihsan is shown through employee friendliness, assistance, and willingness to provide additional service. However, challenges remain, such as limited understanding of Islamic ethical values among employees and inconsistencies in their practical application. This study contributes to the advancement of Islamic-based retail business practices and serves as a valuable academic reference for implementing Islamic business ethics in the modern retail sector.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of service quality, transparency, and religiosity on the interest of PT Bank Mandiri employees in distributing zakat, infaq, and waqf (ZISWAF) through the Medan Representative Office of the Mandiri Amal Insani Zakat Institution (LAZ MAI). This study used a quantitative descriptive approach with data collection through questionnaires to employees. The results showed that service quality did not have a significant influence on employee interest in distributing ZISWAF, while transparency and religiosity had a significant positive influence. This indicates that the institution's openness in managing funds and the individual's level of religiosity are the main factors that encourage employees to participate in Islamic philanthropic activities. In general, this study confirms that trust in zakat management institutions and the strength of personal spiritual values play an important role in building interest in donating. Meanwhile, service quality tends to be considered a supporting factor that is not strong enough to influence donation decisions if it is not accompanied by high transparency and trust. These findings have important implications for the management of zakat institutions in the corporate environment. LAZ MAI Medan is advised to continue to maintain transparency in fund management and strengthen religious education activities to increase philanthropic awareness among employees.
