Abstract

Surgical wound infection (SWI) is one of the most common complications that occur after surgical procedures, including in post-Caesarean section (CS) patients. Many factors can influence the occurrence of surgical wound infections, including age, obstetric history, nutritional status, obesity, comorbidities, immune system, and hemoglobin levels. The purpose of this study is to identify the risk factors associated with the incidence of surgical wound infections in post-Caesarean section patients. The research design used is analytic with a cross-sectional approach. The population in this study includes all post-Caesarean section patients at RS Dian Husada Mojokerto. The sampling technique used is accidental sampling. The sample consists of all post-Caesarean section mothers who experienced post-Caesarean section wound infections and meet the criteria. The independent variable in this study is the risk factors for post-Caesarean section wound infections. The dependent variable in this study is post-Caesarean section wound infections. Data analysis was conducted using the Chi-Square statistical test. The research results show that all risk factors causing post-C-section wound infection have a significant relationship. Factors such as age, Hb levels, nutritional status, obesity, delivery history, immunity, and comorbidities all pose a risk of causing post-C-section wound infection. It is expected that healthcare workers or hospital authorities improve the standard operating procedures (SOP) related to the prevention of surgical wounds, especially in post-C-section patients. Patients are also expected to pay attention to the cleanliness of post-C-section wounds and follow the advice of healthcare professionals.

Abstract

Socioeconomic status affects a family's ability to meet their toddler's nutritional needs. Malnutrition problems, particularly stunting, are closely related to the quality and quantity of food consumed, where the factor determining food quality is income level. The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between economic status and the incidence of stunting in toddlers aged 2-5 years. The research design is correlational analytic with a cross-sectional approach. Economic status is the independent variable and the incidence of stunting is the dependent variable. The population of the study consists of all toddlers experiencing stunting at the Gayaman Village Posyandu, totaling 19 toddlers. The sample was taken using a total sampling technique comprising 19 respondents. Data were collected using socioeconomic questionnaires and observations of children's height and age. The data collected were tested using the Spearman rho test. The results of the study indicate that almost all respondents with high economic status toddlers are in. The results of the Pearson correlation test showed a value of ρ = 0.010 < α = 0.05, thus H1 is accepted, meaning there is a relationship between economic status and the incidence of stunting. It is expected that health cadres monitor the height of toddlers so that early screening can be conducted for those at risk of stunting. In addition, cadres must also provide guidance to toddlers who are experiencing stunting and coordinate with health centre staff for their management.

Abstract

Low self-confidence and high anxiety regarding the OSCE pose significant psychological challenges for midwifery students, which impact the quality of midwifery care. Innovative gamification-based interactive learning media are needed to address this issue. Objective: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Roy’s Truth or Dare (TOD) Educational Cards in improving self-confidence and reducing anxiety regarding the OSCE among midwifery students. This research is a double-blind randomized controlled trial (RCT) involving 246 midwifery students from East Java (Kediri, Jombang, Mojokerto, Sidoarjo). Participants were randomly assigned to the intervention group (n=123), which received Roy’s TOD Educational Cards for 4 weeks (60 minutes per session, twice weekly), and the control group (n=123), which received conventional instruction. Measurements were taken at baseline, post-test (4 weeks), and follow-up (4 weeks post-intervention) using the General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES), the Confidence in Clinical Skills Scale (CCSS), and the Westside Test Anxiety Scale (WTAS). Data analysis used the independent t-test and the Mann-Whitney U test based on the results of the Shapiro-Wilk normality test. The intervention group showed a significant increase in GSES scores (α =14.3 points) compared to the control group (Δ=3.3 points), with p<0.001. The intervention group’s CCSS score increased by 20.7 points, while the control group’s increased by only 5.2 points. The decrease in WTAS scores in the intervention group (α=11.2 points; p<0.001) was much greater than in the control group (α =2.7 points; p=0.142). The intervention effect was sustained at the 4-week follow-up (p<0.001), with a very high level of student satisfaction (mean 4.6 out of 5). Roy’s TOD (Truth or Dare) Educational Cards are effective in significantly and sustainably boosting self-confidence and reducing anxiety among midwifery students in preparation for the OSCE. This tool is recommended as an innovative learning method in midwifery education institutions.
