Abstract

Maternal and child mortality issue is a significant challenge in West Sulawesi, necessitating urgent intervention. The Maternal and Child Health (MCH) data for 2023 reveals maternal mortality at 48 and infant mortality at 359. The declining of 1.2% in modern contraceptive use to 51.14% in 2023 compared to the previous year, underscores the urgency for intervention. Meanwhile, each region exhibits distinct characteristics, conditions, and potentials to decide the right intervention for each region. The k-means algorithm in this research was used to perform regional clustering. The purpose of this study is to determine intervention strategies based on the conditions and potential of regional clusters. Cluster analysis highlights variations among clusters. Based on the analysis, clusters with unmet need below the expected target are clusters 1, 2, and 4. In determining intervention, the following aspects need to be considered specifically cluster 1 requires enhanced access to family planning services, cluster 2 needs improved dissemination of family planning information, while cluster 4 is characterized by high unmet needs and a lack of healthcare facilities, necessitates increased accessibility to family planning services and healthcare staff training. Customized strategies for each cluster are vital to optimize the utilization of resources effectively and efficiently

Abstract

Healthy pregnancy planning through premarital screening aims to reduce high-risk pregnancies with early intervention in prospective brides. However, it is less popular among prospective brides, a total of 74.4% of prospective brides do not know the benefits of premarital screening, this can affect the assessment of prospective brides on premarital screening even though premarital screening services are required by the government. This study aims to analyze the relationship between knowledge and the attitude of prospective brides regarding premarital screening. Method study is quantitative research with an observational analytical design, a cross-sectional study approach conducted on 63 samples with consecutive sampling techniques. The measurement of knowledge level and attitude uses a questionnaire and the Fisher Exact Statistics test. This study shows that the knowledge of prospective brides about premarital screening is mostly in the category of less than 44.4% and the majority attitude is positive 81%. There was a significant correlation (p < 0.001) between knowledge and attitudes towards premarital screening. It can be concluded that knowledge can affect the attitude and assessment of the prospective brides and groom towards premarital screening. Therefore, strategic steps are needed such as the integration of education in premarital counseling, the development of community-based campaigns.

Abstract

The annual increase in the Special Allocation Fund (DAK) for Family Planning (FP) reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening population control and family planning programs at the regional level, yet disparities in achieving modern contraceptive prevalence rates (mCPR) persist across regions. This study analyzes the relationship between FP-related DAK—specifically, physical DAK and Operational Assistance for Family Planning (BOKB)—and the prevalence of modern contraceptive use in Indonesia, using data from 508 districts/cities that received FP-related DAK from 2012 to 2021. Secondary data from the Ministry of Finance, the National Population and Family Planning Board (BKKBN), and Statistics Indonesia (BPS) were analyzed using the Kunatitati approach with the Panel-Instrumental Variable (Panel-IV) method, employing the Construction Cost Index as the instrumental variable. The results reveal that physical FP-related DAK is not significantly associated with an increase in mCPR, while BOKB demonstrates a positive and significant association with improved mCPR. These findings highlight the importance of strategically allocating budgets to BOKB programs to achieve effective population control objectives. The government is encouraged to ensure sustainable allocation of FP-related DAK, particularly BOKB, to districts/cities, alongside regular monitoring and evaluation to ensure funds are utilized effectively, disbursed timely, and aligned with performance outcomes.

Abstract

The prevalence of female sterilization as a contraceptive method is significantly low in Bojonggede, Bogor Regency. Out of the 45,000 couples, merely 3% of women have chosen sterilization. This study aims to identify the factors influencing the choice of female sterilization among women of reproductive age in Bojonggede, Bogor Regency. The research utilized a quantitative study with a cross-sectional approach. The data was gathered through interviews using questionnaires distributed to 171 samples selected through purposive sampling. The Chi Square test was used to analyze the data aiming to examine the relationship between all of the independent variables concerning the choice of female sterilization among women of reproductive age in Bojonggede, Bogor Regency. The findings of this study found a significant association between age, parity, perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived benefit, perceived barriers, and cues to action based on husband support with the choice of female sterilization in Bojonggede. Hence, it is recommended to conduct unrestricted sterilization policy in response to increase the female sterilization selection rate in Bojonggede and ensure that all women are provided equally to access sterilization regardless their age and parity.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology has brought both opportunities and challenges for parents in shaping their children's character. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of parental communication strategies in shaping children's digital behavior and character development amid increasing online risks and influences. The study uses a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design to explore parents' lived experiences in communicating with their children to foster positive character development in the digital era. Purposive sampling was employed to select six parents (three mothers and three fathers) with children aged 10-15 years who actively use digital devices. Data were collected through in-depth semi-structured interviews, and a thematic analysis was used to identify key communication strategies, challenges, and parental roles in shaping digital behavior. The results showed that parents adopted various effective communication practices, specifically maintaining open dialogue through regular family discussions, implementing collaborative rule-setting, engaging in active mentoring through shared digital activities, and modeling appropriate technology use behavior. The main challenges included gaps in technological knowledge and limited quality time. Parents played roles as digital educators, supervisors, and role models. Effective communication had a positive impact on children's awareness of online risks and responsible use of technology. However, consistent implementation of rules and peer influence remain challenges. The study highlights the importance of adaptive and supportive communication practices while also addressing technological knowledge gaps and peer influences.
