Abstract

Developments in digital technology have significantly altered the political landscape worldwide, as evidenced by the emergence of cyberpolitics, political activity occurring in the digital realm. However, for countries with authoritarian systems like North Korea, cyberpolitics is used as a means to monitor and repress their citizens. This study aims to analyze the impact of cyberpolitics on North Korean society through a case study of government-implemented social media controls. The methodology used in this study is descriptive qualitative with a desk study approach, examining various literature sources, reports, and academic publications related to information policy and digital surveillance in North Korea. The results of the study indicate that cyberpolitics is implemented in North Korea through three main mechanisms: control of digital infrastructure, censorship and the dissemination of propaganda, and strict monitoring of citizens' online activities. The government restricts its citizens' access to the global internet and replaces it with a national intranet system that is fully controlled by the state, so that information received by the public is only in accordance with government ideology. This situation has resulted in the digital space in North Korea becoming a tool for information monopolization as well as an instrument for shaping political consciousness that benefits the ruling regime. Abstract

This study analyzes the framing of the 2024 Presidential Election debate coverage in two media outlets, asumsi.co and republika.co.id, both with political affiliations. Asumsi.co, led by Pangeran Siahaan, also serves as the spokesperson for the Ganjar-Mahfud National Winning Team (TPN), while republika.co.id is owned by PT Mahaka Media Tbk, affiliated with Erick Thohir, a key member of the Prabowo-Gibran National Campaign Team (TKN). Using Robert N. Entman's, the results show that asumsi.co emphasizes the positive image of the Ganjar-Mahfud pair, highlighting their strong debate performance and mastery of the material, while republika.co.id offers more varied coverage, focusing on the candidates' personalities, physical gestures, and rhetoric, with a primary focus on Prabowo and Gibran, and criticism of Anies regarding political ethics. Abstract

This study is motivated by the increasing interaction between fans and K-Pop artists on digital platforms, especially Weverse, which is designed as an exclusive media by HYBE Corporation. The purpose of the study is to analyze SEVENTEEN fans' participation in Weverse and identify the factors that influence it. Using a qualitative descriptive approach with McLuhan's Law of Media theory and ecological media as the analytical framework, data were collected through in-depth interviews with four active paying and non-paying fans who have interacted on Weverse for at least the past six months. The interview technique was conducted directly and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The results show that fan participation is influenced by artist activity, access to exclusive content, and fandom community dynamics. Non-paying fans tend to be more active in public interactions than paying users. This study contributes to the study of digital media and participatory culture by highlighting how access structures in digital platforms affect fan interaction patterns. The novelty of this study lies in the focus of the analysis on the differentiation of participation based on collection status, which has not been widely explored in the context of community-based platforms such as Weverse. Abstract

The Taliban government that regained power in Afghanistan in 2021 has had a significant impact on women's lives, especially in terms of access to education, employment, and participation in political activities. This study aims to analyze the impact of discriminatory policies implemented by the Taliban on the achievement of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a particular focus on gender equality (SDG 5). By adopting Amartya Sen's theoretical approach regarding the five instrumental freedoms, namely political freedom, economic opportunity, social opportunity, guarantees of transparency, and guarantees of security. This study reveals that restrictions on women's rights have exacerbated the feminization of poverty and restrictions on education and employment have deprived women of opportunities to improve their quality of life. Through qualitative research methods, this study collected data from various relevant literature sources, including scientific articles, news, and reports from international institutions that discuss the socio-economic conditions of women in Afghanistan. The findings of this study indicate that the policies implemented by the Taliban have hampered progress towards the 2030 SDGs by narrowing the space for women to participate in the public sector and the economy. Therefore, collective efforts from various global actors are crucial in ensuring that women in Afghanistan continue to have access to education, employment and their basic rights as part of a sustainable development agenda. Abstract

Karawang is known as one of the largest manufacturing industry centers in Indonesia, with many factories owned by large companies. The phenomenon of age discrimination began to emerge because many job seekers—especially those aged 30 and over—complained about not getting job opportunities even though they had experience. The purpose of this study is to analyze how this age discrimination practice ultimately results in a power structure between employers and workers. Therefore, previous studies tend to view the attitude of age in the age recruitment process as a discriminatory policy alone, without highlighting the political coercion of workers' bargaining positions. By using qualitative methods through in-depth interviews and the theoretical framework of The Four Dimensions of Power by Mark Haugaard, this study was able to reveal that age power strengthens the company's control over young workers, which ultimately gives rise to their bargaining position and solidarity. The findings show that age discrimination is a mechanism to continue to perpetuate the inequality of power relations in industrial relations that have been maturely internalized. Thus, this study broadens the understanding of age discrimination as a manifestation of political strategy in industrial relations, and not just an administrative policy. The implications of this research highlight the need for more inclusive and equitable changes in employment regulations, as well as strengthening labor collectivity to face pressures from the capitalist system. Abstract

China’s success in international cooperation through its mega project, the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), was followed by establishing the Belt and Road Initiative Green Development Coalition (BRIGC), which aims to promote green development in several partner countries. To accelerate the transition from conventional to renewable energy, Indonesia joined as a partner in this green development project at the time of BRIGC’s formation by Xi Jinping in 2019. This study aims to understand how Indonesia interprets and implements its national interests within the Belt and Road Initiative Green Development Coalition (BRIGC) as a response to the pursuit of greener and cleaner BRI development. The research uses a qualitative method, with data collected through a literature study. It employs the theory of national interest by Jack Plano and Roy Olton. The findings indicate that Indonesia has national interests in the form of self-preservation and economic well-being that it seeks to achieve through this cooperation, while also striving to balance environmental preservation. However, due to Indonesia's financial limitations, China’s dominance remains evident in several energy projects, as research shows that China holds crucial shares in global mining resources. Abstract

This study examines the role of the Sarekat Islam (SI) in disseminating socialist politics in Indonesia during the national movement era. The background of this research lies in SI’s transformation from an economic association into a political organization that shaped indigenous social consciousness and ideology toward social justice. This study employs a qualitative method using a historical approach, including heuristic, verification, and historiography stages to systematically trace SI’s development. The analysis applies H.O.S. Tjokroaminoto’s theory of Islamic socialism, which emphasizes the integration of Islamic values and social justice as the foundation for resistance against colonial oppression. The findings reveal that Sarekat Islam played a major role as a pioneer in spreading socialist ideas grounded in religious values through organizational networks, education, and publications. Furthermore, internal dynamics such as the division between White SI and Red SI reflect ideological tensions that enriched national political thought. In conclusion, Sarekat Islam served as a crucial foundation for the emergence of modern political consciousness and the integration of socialism within the Islamic context of Indonesia. Abstract

This study critically examines the institutional role of local governments in enhancing public awareness of the multidimensional consequences of early marriage in North Sumatra. Drawing on secondary data from Statistics Indonesia and an extensive review of empirical and normative literature, the research analyses governmental interventions within the frameworks of child-protection policy. The findings reveal that while local governments have initiated the establishment of a preventive ecosystem, implementation remains constrained by cultural resistance, social inequities, limited fiscal capacity, and insufficient interinstitutional coordination. The analysis underscores that the effectiveness of reducing early-marriage prevalence is not solely contingent upon regulatory availability, but rather on governance consistency, cross-sectoral synergy, and the degree to which protective norms are internalized at family and community levels. Consequently, this study positions the prevention of early marriage as a strategic developmental agenda requiring a holistic, evidence-driven, and socially embedded approach to ensure the fulfilment of adolescents’ fundamental rights. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the factors influencing non-voting behavior in the Re-voting Process (Pemungutan Suara Ulang/PSU) for the Regional Representative Council (DPD) election in West Sumatra Province in 2024, specifically in the city of Bukittinggi. Bukittinggi recorded the lowest voter turnout in West Sumatra during the PSU, with participation reaching only 26%. This research employs a quantitative approach using an explanatory survey method. Data were collected through questionnaires administered to 100 respondents selected using a multistage random sampling technique. The theoretical framework applied is the Civic Voluntarism Model proposed by Sidney Verba, which includes variables of resources, psychological engagement, and recruitment (mobilization). Data analysis was conducted using multiple linear regression with the assistance of SPSS version 26. The findings indicate that non-voting behavior is significantly influenced by internal individual factors, namely resources and psychological engagement. A paradoxical relationship was identified in the resource variable, where higher levels of resources are associated with a greater tendency toward non-voting behavior due to time constraints and occupational commitments. Conversely, external factors such as recruitment or mobilization were found to have no significant effect on individuals’ decisions not to vote. Abstract

China's rise as a global economic power cannot be separated from the implementation of market socialism initiated by Deng Xiaoping in 1978. However, the direction and sustainability of these reforms were crucially shaped by the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests, which served as a critical juncture that determined the relationship between political stability and economic liberalization. This article aims to analyze how the market socialism path developed across leaderships, from Deng Xiaoping to Xi Jinping, and how the post-Tiananmen policy path shaped China's position in the global political economy. This study uses qualitative methods with a Comparative Historical Analysis (CHA) approach to trace the historical cause-and-effect mechanisms and path dependence dynamics in China's political economy policies during the 1978-2013 period. The analysis is conducted using the theoretical framework of market socialism and global political economy, particularly the concept of performance legitimacy, to explain how economic growth has become the main source of political legitimacy. The results show that after Tiananmen, China strengthened political control while deepening market reforms through a pattern of selective adaptation to capitalist institutions. This combination enabled China to achieve rapid economic growth, maintain political stability, and consolidate its position as a global economic power without following the Western capitalist model.
