Abstract

The grace of Christ needs to be on the agenda of preaching in the Gospels, especially in the Gospel of John. In the current pandemic atmosphere, heuristic reasoning can be grounded from the Gospel of John. The counselee needs clarity about himself and why he must entrust his life to the Lord Jesus. And the contribution of Christianity is to strive for them to grow in faith and become mature disciples of Christ in the future. The process of becoming a disciple of Christ of course by paying attention to the cognitive workings of the individual concerned. And it becomes an important part of Christian ministry so that the quality of the faith that is reached is visible and useful in his life. Heuristic reasoning can be one of the proposed models because Christ himself used this reasoning with many people, including His disciples.

Abstract

Javanese Catholic people live in the midst of Javanese culture with its traditions that are still preserved. Out of these traditions, the Javanese people still keep the ruwatan ceremony. Javanese Catholics often question whether or not ruwatan is permissible according to the teachings of the Catholic Church. In this particular topic, the theological question arises regarding whether it is still necessary to seek salvation through rituals, while salvation has been fully accomplished through Jesus Christ and received in the Sacrament of Baptism. In answering this theological problem, the writer uses the pastoral circle method from the theory of Joe Holland Peter Henriot. Meanwhile, to analyze the ruwatan ritual, the writer uses Victor Turner’s theory regarding the three stages of the rite of passage.

Abstract

Most traditional societies have different conceptions of death and dying. The people of Ngada in Central Flores have a conception of death and dying called ‘mata golo.’ Mata golo is a bad death or a bloody death. This kind of death is caused by, for instance, a natural disaster, being killed by others, being killed in a traffic accident, etc. This article presents a theological inculturation view of the death of Christ on the Cross as a sign of reconciliation and peace in the perspective of mata golo among the Ngada people and in that of the ke’o rado ritual that follows it. This ritual is meant to bring about reconciliation and establish peace between the members of the clan on the one hand and the dead and the ancestors on the other hand. By using the inculturation method, we first listen to the culture. For this, the qualitative research method is used by conducting field research observations, in-depth interviews with key informants, and literature studies of previous studies on mata golo. The result is then compared with the teachings and views of the Catholic Church on the death of Christ. These two themes are then synthesized to build a distinctive theological concept, which could be a contribution to future pastoral services.

Abstract

Confession of faith is one of the most important part of religion. In Christianity’s confession of faith it is clear that there are mentioned what so called as Trinity in which Christians proclaim their belief to God the father, Jesus Christ and Holy Spirit. On the other hand, Islam have confession of faith in which they proclaim the oneness of God which is known as Tauhid. However, in the context of inter-religious relation between Islam and Christianity, their confession of faith often open a discussion even debate.  Therefore, the Christian belief in a triune God and the deity of the Prophet Jesus are a serious “stumbling block” in dealing with Indonesian people in general and Islamic societies in particular. Concerning Islam, another question that immediately arises is, whether there is any interpretation which able to broke the ‘stumbling block’ or actually it is untranslatable of religion that should be accepted and honored? This kind of questions will be discussed in in this paper because the effort to remove these ‘stumbling block’ and built more harmonius inter-religious relation between Christian and Islam is both side duty.

Abstract

This article will explore the independence that is actually expected by every human being, both women and men in the framework of education under the title, "Impact of Education on Patriarchal As This article would analyze on the true independence that expected  by every human  both of women and men in frame  of Education with the title , “The Impact of Education on Patriarchate  Culture and Gender Equality". In this sense, education must be placed in the perspective of liberation. Education is for all and lasts for life. Patriarchate refers to a system of legitimate relations in the fields of law, economy and politics and strengthens domination relations in a society. The research takes place in the mainland area of East Flores with characteristic of a strong patriarchate culture. Observations were made on the family in the interaction of husband and wife dealing with work and tasks in the realm they carried so that the authors were sent to find out whether there is an influence of education on patriarchate culture and therefore patriarchate culture affects gender equality which has an impact on women's participation. The methodology used in this study is interpretive, with a qualitative model and a phenomenological approach. The data collection technique is done through interviews. This study found that patriarchate culture, gender equality and the  involvement of East Flores women that were influenced by the higher education received by the community. Thus, this study is different from the one conducted by Shannon McAlister with the title, “Christ as the Woman Seeking Her Lost Coin: Luke 15:8-10 and Divine Sophia in the Latin West” in the Journal of “Theological Studies”, 2018, Vol. 79, no. 1, pp 7-35
