Abstract

The research attempted to recognize students’ comprehension in adopting a set of procedures in the translation process compared to the translation-professional choices in real-situation. Thus, two sets of questionnaires were provided for students and professional translators. The qualitative method was employed in conducting the research. The first questionnaire enabled students to express their feelings, thoughts, and ideas concerning the translation course and process. This reflection revealed the students’ strategies, interests, and motivation in attending the course. It also allowed the student to see the importance and benefit of the course. On the other hand, the second questionnaire drew some insight into professional translators’ choice in doing a translation, particularly on strategy in dealing with texts. Those finding provides an opportunity for teachers to identify the students’ needs in learning and practicing the translation as close as the professional does and finally to find the best approach in teaching translation.

Abstract

The aims of this study were to observe the translation procedures to translate Sijalapen in Karonese Wedding Ceremony into English. The data of this study were found from the participant observation of the authors. There were six cultural terms in the groom’s party and five cultural terms in the bride’s party.  All together were 11 cultural terms and they were the lucky numbers for Karonese society. They refered to Karonese belief of ersada tendi ku rumah means have all souls gathered at home. If their souls are all at home, they believe that they all had good health. It was believed because they did the ceremony of perumah tendi. It was the ceremony of asking for their tendi at home. The qualitative research was done to collect the data and did the analysis. Translation analysis, cultural analysis and discourse analysis were applied in doing this study. The result shows that the problems of untranslatability occur in the process of translation the SL into the TL. Newmark’s translation procedures were not workable, instead, Sembiring and Panggabean’s familiar translation procedure were used to translate sijalapen in Karonese wedding ceremony into English. The authors would recommend the researchers on untranslatability texts to use Sembiring and Panggabean’s translation procedure to overcome their translation process problems.

Abstract

The outbreak of COVID-19 has brought the disrupt change to education activities; from face to face to distance learning. In large-scale e-learning implementations, both teachers and students face an overload of subject material, making it difficult to adjust to the online context. This qualitative research investigated the students’ perception of e-learning implementation from the perspective of translation-course participants. The perception reflected the student challenges that categorized as adaptability to e-learning environment; technical availability and computer literacy; time-management, learning engagement; and self-effort and readiness. A semi structured-questionnaire Google Form that consisted of 19 items was developed to collect the students' perceptions and opinions. The questionnaire distributed and collected online. The data was tabulated, presented, and analyzed statistically. The perception of students on e-learning revealed the importance of improvement on technical support for learning instruction and material presentation, as well as students’ self-discipline on learning schedule. The finding of this study was feedback for authors to provide effective teaching by consideration to student's challenges in the e-learning environment.

The sample of the research was two classes, which were selected by using cluster random sampling technique, the total were (80) students. The sample was divided into two groups; the first group is 40 students, (Grade X 1) which was the experimental group. The second group is 40 students, (Grade X 2) which was the control group. The experimental group was taught by using Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition while control group was taught without using questioning strategy. The instrument used for collecting the data was test in the form of multiple choices with the total number of 20 questions. The tests were divided into two; pre-test and post-test. The reliability of the test was 0.9. After the data had been collected, they were analyzed by using t-test formula in order to see whether the discussion method significantly affects students reading comprehension. The result of the analysis showed that the t-observed (4.8), it was higher than the t-table (2.024) with the level of significant (0, 05) and the degree of freedom (df) (38). The result of the analysis showed that the hypothesis of the study was accepted. It was concluded that questioning strategy significantly affects students reading comprehension.

Abstract

The grace of Christ needs to be on the agenda of preaching in the Gospels, especially in the Gospel of John. In the current pandemic atmosphere, heuristic reasoning can be grounded from the Gospel of John. The counselee needs clarity about himself and why he must entrust his life to the Lord Jesus. And the contribution of Christianity is to strive for them to grow in faith and become mature disciples of Christ in the future. The process of becoming a disciple of Christ of course by paying attention to the cognitive workings of the individual concerned. And it becomes an important part of Christian ministry so that the quality of the faith that is reached is visible and useful in his life. Heuristic reasoning can be one of the proposed models because Christ himself used this reasoning with many people, including His disciples.

Abstract

Learning is the process of change in human character, and these changes are manifested as an increase in the quality and quantity of behavior, such as improve skills, knowledge, attitudes, habits, understanding, skills, thinking abilities, etc. To make learning enjoyable, each class should include an activity that allows students to gain new knowledge and skills. Learning activities of this type must bridge the gap between prior knowledge held by learners and new knowledge created by them. One of the psychologists known for learning theory is Albert Bandura. Albert Bandura emphasizes the importance of observing, modeling, and imitating the behaviors, attitudes, and emotional responses of others. Social learning theory considers how environmental and cognitive factors interact to influence human learning and behavior. Albert Bandura's Social Learning emphasizes the importance of the learner develop their own knowledge or information gained from model observations the surrounding environment. The learner organizes all the information in detail code. The process of preparing each code can be repeated, allowing learners to real-time feedback can be provided. The learner's behavior is the result of competence. The learner interprets knowledge or information, imitates the model, and then recognizes process and identify desired action goals. Encourage learners to think critically and creatively. Analyzing the problem and offering alternative solutions is critical to the problem.

Abstract

Technology-based education is expected to be able to improve the quality of education and also in the long term improve the welfare of a nation. The case study approach in several countries and using the results of existing studies in those countries shows a significant influence on digital technology-based learning and teaching. This was emphasized by UNDP regarding the importance of using technology in learning. Studies in England, Turkey and in Asean countries and specifically in Indonesia show that improving the welfare of the nation is possible because more advanced education and the use of learning technology are able to shape students' thinking, learning attitudes and of course their independence in the future. This is certainly encouraging in the midst of the Government's spirit to promote education with an independent learning corps as a complementary to education for all. Keywords: education, technology, welfare, nation, learning and teaching.
